Chapter 58 - 58 58 The Rhythm of Choosing Between Two Options
58: Chapter 58: The Rhythm of Choosing Between Two Options 58: Chapter 58: The Rhythm of Choosing Between Two Options The atmosphere in Ling Weiwei’s office was bone-chillingly cold, and Lin Fei knew he had missed a golden opportunity to get on the good side of the beautiful minister.
As expected, he had thoroughly offended Ling Weiwei, the sudden drop in temperature in the office was a clear indication of her current mood.
Had Shen Peini not texted him first, Lin Fei would never have refused Ling Weiwei, the beautiful minister.
Of course, this wasn’t to say that Shen Peini was more attractive or had a better temperament than Ling Weiwei.
In terms of looks, the two women were on the same level, with only Mu Shanshan outshining them both.
Shen Peini and Ling Weiwei each had their own distinct temperaments, Shen Peini’s being more mature and seductive, while Ling Weiwei’s was cooler and more reserved.
It wasn’t clear who was better, but one thing was for certain, Shen Peini was easier to approach than Ling Weiwei.
That’s why Lin Fei had chosen to politely decline Ling Weiwei in favor of Shen Peini.
“Minister Ling, it’s time to get off work, so I’ll take my leave now.”
Lin Fei slowly moved towards the office door as he spoke.
Just then, the crisp sound of heels tapping on the floor echoed, accompanied by a knock on the door, which opened to reveal Shen Peini, with her enchanting figure and infinite charm, lazily walking in.
“Minister Ling, work is over.”
Greeting Ling Weiwei, who was standing before the floor-to-ceiling window, Shen Peini’s slender and alluring eyes turned towards Lin Fei, “Little brother, so you are here.
Sister has had quite a time looking for you.
You’re not very sincere about inviting people out to dinner, are you?
Hurry up and lead the way.”
Damn, could her timing be any worse?
Lin Fei almost cried out loud.
He had just politely declined Ling Weiwei, and now Shen Peini barged in.
This was a classic example of being sabotaged.
Sure enough, Ling Weiwei turned around sharply, her bright eyes staring directly at Lin Fei, with a killing intent surging within.
Catching him in a lie on the spot, Lin Fei felt somewhat embarrassed, he couldn’t bear to meet Ling Weiwei’s gaze and turned to look around instead.
Without making a sound, he moved towards Shen Peini, desiring nothing more than to quickly escape this trouble-filled place.
However, Ling Weiwei obviously had no intentions of letting him off the hook easily.
Ling Weiwei was already furious.
She had humbled herself to hint at Lin Fei, hoping that as a man, he would take the cue and ask her out.
Instead, Lin Fei had turned her down.
Had Lin Fei genuinely gone to drink with some friends and came back to apologize to her afterwards, Ling Weiwei might not have taken the matter to heart and just let it go.
The reality was that Lin Fei had secretly arranged to meet Shen Peini, and had even come up with some lousy excuse about drinking with friends to fob her off.
He was practically treating Ling Weiwei like a fool, and if Shen Peini hadn’t unexpectedly shown up, Lin Fei might have really fooled her today.
What was this all about?
In what way was she, Ling Weiwei, inferior to Shen Peini?
How could he choose to ditch her for a meal with Shen Peini–how was Minister Ling supposed to cope with this?
It was as if he was outright stating that Ling Weiwei was not as good as Shen Peini.
“Sister Shen, I wonder if I could trouble you and Lin for a few minutes, there’s some work I need to go over with Assistant Lin.”
Ling Weiwei nodded slightly in greeting to Shen Peini, who had already decided to switch her allegiance to Mu Shanshan’s side, so naturally, Ling Weiwei would maintain her outward courtesies.
“That so?
Well then, little brother, I’ll be waiting outside for you.”
Women were sensitive creatures, and Shen Peini certainly perceived the tension between Ling Weiwei and Lin Fei.
Warning Lin Fei in this way, she was obviously guarding against him switching sides at the last moment.
Although their relationship had eased significantly, this did not mean that Shen Peini or Ling Weiwei were willing to give ground on other matters of life.
Especially love–neither woman was a green schoolgirl anymore, and some external forces couldn’t shake their pursuit of love.
Especially since both women were equally beautiful and talented, and had once been rivals.
This woman was definitely doing it on purpose, clearly aiming to leave Lin Fei no way to face Ling Weiwei, thereby monopolizing him for herself.
It was a blatant attempt to block his luck in love, an utterly malicious scheme, intolerable beyond measure.
“Assistant Lin, weren’t you going out for drinks with friends?
Why haven’t you left yet?”
Ling Weiwei walked towards Lin Fei, her elegant eyebrows slightly raised, it would be impossible for an uninformed person to tell that it was a woman’s voice that had stopped Lin Fei from leaving.
Damn it, I did want to leave, but you have to agree.
If I just turned around and left, who knows how you’d make me suffer later?
These words could only be said in his heart, as Lin Fei was the one who had lied first.
At this moment, Lin Fei genuinely felt so frustrated he could spit blood.
They say a woman’s mood changes faster than flipping pages in a book; she had just been looking like she would bite Lin Fei’s head off.
But now, there was no trace of anger on her pretty face, as if she had completely forgotten about Lin Fei’s refusal.
“We’re all familiar enough here, no need to beat around the bush, just tell me how you want me to die.”
With things having reached this point, no amount of explanation would help, Lin Fei simply assumed the demeanor of a bandit who doesn’t fear being boiled alive, challenging Ling Weiwei, what can you possibly do to me?
“In your heart, am I really inferior to Sister Shen?”
Lin Fei had been so blunt that Ling Weiwei lost the desire to argue with Lin Fei.
Now, what concerned her most was in what ways she fell short compared to Shen Peini.
This was not merely a matter of competition between women; it was more about understanding clearly who held a dearer place in Lin Fei’s heart, herself or Shen Peini.
“What are you thinking?” Sensing the sudden drop in Ling Weiwei’s mood and the implied melancholy in her words, Lin Fei couldn’t help but feel a mix of amusement and frustration.
“Minister Ling, to be honest with you, before I came to your office, I had already received a text from her.
There’s an order to these things, you know.
If you don’t mind, the three of us could go out for dinner together.”
Lin Fei’s words were very comforting to Ling Weiwei, as they indicated that she and Shen Peini held equal importance in Lin Fei’s heart.
In fact, Ling Weiwei wasn’t wrong to think this way.
However, Lin Fei wasn’t declining Ling Weiwei just because he received Shen Peini’s text first.
It all came down to the fact that Shen Peini was easier to handle than Ling Weiwei.
In Lin Fei’s heart, the significance of Shen Peini and Ling Weiwei was indeed the same.
To put it more precisely, both women were seen as suitable bed partners in Lin Fei’s eyes.
Of course, these thoughts were not to be shared with Ling Weiwei, for she was not as mature, open-minded, and broad-hearted as Shen Peini.
“Lin Fei, thank you.”
Ling Weiwei extended her tender hand to Lin Fei with a solemn expression, looking quite formal.
“For what?”
Although he didn’t understand why the beautiful Minister suddenly thanked him, it didn’t prevent Lin Fei from reaching out to tenderly hold her delicate hand.
“Thank you for appearing out of nowhere and saving me when I was in despair.
To show my gratitude, I’ll take you out for dinner tonight.
Get yourself ready; let’s go now.”
Ling Weiwei spoke quickly, but her words were clear enough for Lin Fei to understand.
After she finished speaking, Lin Fei was stunned.
What was this woman up to?
Lin Fei really wanted to grab Ling Weiwei’s head and ask her directly if she hadn’t seen Shen Peini come in to ask him for dinner, if she hadn’t heard what he just said, or if she was just feigning ignorance.
“Minister Ling…”
“What?
You don’t want to?!”
This wasn’t a matter of wanting or not wanting at all.
She knew Shen Peini was waiting for him outside.
If he left with her, who knew how that woman would torment him in the future.
“Minister Ling, gratitude does not need to be spoken.
I appreciate the gesture, but about that dinner…”
“Cut the crap.
You can refuse to go to dinner with me, fine.
But I have one condition.”
“What condition?”
“You can’t go to dinner with Sister Shen either.”
What kind of condition was that?
If he agreed to it, wouldn’t all his efforts be wasted?
“I can’t.
How can I go back on my word?”
Lin Fei firmly rejected Ling Weiwei’s condition.
“So it seems you are set on going to dinner with Sister Shen.”
A hint of coldness flashed through Ling Weiwei’s beautiful eyes.
“Yes.”
Lin Fei decided to bite the bullet; it seemed he was bound to offend one of them today.
Comparatively, Lin Fei chose to offend Ling Weiwei.
There was no helping it; Shen Peini’s threats were too lethal for any normal man to resist.
Unable to suppress her anger any longer, Ling Weiwei coldly rebuked, “Go if you want to.
However, there’s something I must remind you of.
Unless something unexpected happens, Sister Shen is likely to be transferred out of the General Affairs Department.
And, I absolutely will not give a man a second chance to reject me.”
Her meaning was crystal clear: once Shen Peini was transferred out, the General Affairs Department would be her domain, and to make life difficult for Lin Fei would be all too easy.
Normally, Lin Fei would just walk away.
The President was his wife, after all; why would he care about Minister Ling giving him a hard time?
However, the woman’s second threat had much greater impact.
She was clearly saying if Lin Fei chose Shen Peini, then he should not even think about turning back to Ling Weiwei.
With things having reached this point, Lin Fei did not doubt the woman’s resolve in the slightest.
