The King of Global Scrap Collection -
Chapter 34 - 34 31 Heart Throb
34: Chapter 31: Heart Throb 34: Chapter 31: Heart Throb Over 1,500 motorcycles.
That sure was a lot.
All lined up, they would take up nearly half a soccer field.
Where to store them all for now?
Li Zhongnan was a bit stumped.
He couldn’t possibly store them at the Li Family Village cemetery like last time.
After all, these weren’t scraps.
Doing so would likely raise some suspicions.
Tough luck, just get them out of here first.
He made a phone call.
An hour later, a dozen large trucks rushed over and parked not too far away.
Thirty sturdy young men followed a short, fat man over.
The fat man greeted him with a smile: “Zhongnan, you’re getting better and better, even the traffic police team is offloading their junk to you.
As the saying goes, the waves behind drive the waves in front.
I, an old guy, can’t keep up with you anymore.”
Li Zhongnan gave a hearty smile and said: “Uncle Wen, I can hardly compare to you; I merely dabble in small business.” The fat man, named Li Wen, was a big wig in Li Family Village and one of the few millionaires in the village.
Years ago, Li Wen operated an unlicensed gas station and ran a private sugar mill.
Now, he had bought a dozen large trucks to form a transport team.
Additionally, he was the leader of Li Family Village’s Heroic Group (lion dance group).
Though the Heroic Group was not as famous as the Wenche Group, which had performed at the Olympic opening ceremony, it was well-known in the Lingnan region and never lacked work during festivities.
Like Li Datou (Bighead), many idle young men in Li Family Village followed him.
Each could earn three to five thousand Yuan annually.
So, sometimes, he had more say in Li Family Village than the village chief.
Li Wen grinned and asked: “How much each?”
Li Zhongnan answered honestly: “Three hundred.”
Li Wen shook his head and said: “Three hundred is too steep.
After all, the market isn’t as vibrant as before.
Most families now have some money, and if they want to buy a vehicle, they will buy a new one.
These old, smoky motorcycles won’t sell.
I think most of them can only be sold as scrap, costing at least half the price.”
Li Zhongnan just smiled, unfazed.
Seeing that he ignored the advice, Li Wen shook his head, feeling slightly peeved.
Nowadays, young people made a bit of money and suddenly thought they were unstoppable.
How arrogant!
He gave him well-meaning advice, but he refused to listen.
He would regret it sooner or later.
Did he think business was that easy?
Of course, he didn’t say more.
After all, now he was just a hired hand.
Seeing Li Wen’s expression, Li Zhongnan knew what he was thinking, but he didn’t bother to explain it in more detail.
Whether it would make a profit or not, he had his plan.
“Alright, lads, let’s get to work!”
Li Wen shouted, directing the youths to start loading.
After a truck was loaded, he asked again: “Where to unload?”
Li Zhongnan thought for a while and said: “Let’s borrow the school’s soccer field for now!”
During the 2002 World Cup, Li Family Village Elementary School built a standard soccer field.
However, with the decline of national soccer over the years, the field was now overgrown with grass and had long been abandoned.
Borrowing it temporarily wouldn’t be a problem.
The dozen trucks made a few round trips, and it took the entire afternoon to transport the 1,500 plus motorcycles.
He transferred 6,000 Yuan to Li Wen through WeChat as the trucking fee.
After receiving the money, Li Wen smiled and said: “Zhongnan, if you have more work in the future, just find me.
Ready to serve anytime.” Right now, his transport team was mostly idle at home.
They would take any opportunity to earn money.
“No problem!”
Li Zhongnan replied.
Then he contacted Ge Qing and transferred 500,000 Yuan to the account given.
Of course, the money was for the public account, not for Ge Qing personally.
How Ge would manage it was no longer his concern.
He initially agreed on three hundred Yuan per motorcycle; so, 1,500 plus motorcycles would sum up to 460,000 to 470,000 Yuan.
Li Zhongnan transferred a bit more to cultivate relationships.
As he developed his business in Nangang, he might need to deal with the traffic police in the future.
After the money was in the account,
Ge Qing looked at him with slight admiration and asked with a smile: “Zhongnan, you haven’t gotten your driver’s license yet, right?”
Li Zhongnan nodded.
Ge Qing added: “Give me your details later.
I’ll send them over in a few days.”
“Thank you, Uncle Ge!” Li Zhongnan laughed, exchanging a few extra tens of thousands for an unexpected surprise.
As his business expanded, he definitely needed a driver’s license.
He had wanted to get one for a while but didn’t have the time.
After parting with Ge Qing, he visited a nearby eatery for dinner.
He then hailed a taxi and headed straight back to Li Family Village.
By then, it was already 9 p.m.
Nightlife was minimal in villages.
By this time, all households would have gone to bed, and those who didn’t were watching TV inside.
Few were wandering outside.
Arriving at the school playground,
Li Datou and a few youths greeted him, shouting: “Uncle, you’re finally back.
We’ve been guarding this all day.
If you hadn’t come back, I would have gone home to sleep.”
“Thank you for your hard work.
Go home, eat and rest.
I’ll keep an eye out,” Li Zhongnan smiled, then handed out some cigarettes he had bought earlier.
A youth took a cigarette and said: “Uncle, some of the bikes are quite new and still driveable.
It would be a waste to sell them as scrap!”
Li Datou followed up: “Yes, Uncle!
Can we have a few?”
“Alright!
Each of you can pick one,” Li Zhongnan nodded.
These kids had been so helpful these days, and he wouldn’t mind giving away the bikes that cost a few hundred Yuan each.
“Thank you, Uncle!” Li Datou and the kids chose four to five newer Honda bikes, filled them with gas they had prepared earlier, and sped away.
Li Zhongnan watched, amused and incredulous.
Somehow, these rascals had even prepared gas.
He finished his cigarette and made a sweeping gesture.
Instantaneously, all the motorcycles on the field disappeared and reappeared in the Metal Space.
No one saw it, and that was enough.
If anyone noticed the bikes disappearing overnight and became suspicious of their whereabouts, let them scratch their heads.
No one would figure it out, even if they tried their hardest.
Passing the school gate,
He noticed two banners hanging, one old and one new, both carrying his name.
One from ten years ago congratulated him on getting into Northrealm high school; the other celebrated his admission to Huaqing University.
It made him nostalgic.
Once upon a time, his teachers painstakingly taught him Pinyin here.
He spent his wonderful childhood here.
The school used to take pride in him.
How fast time flew!
As he stepped into the school, it was quiet except for the occasional cicada.
The school building was the same one from ten years ago, though now visibly worn.
The basketball court was also the same but grown over with grass…
He stepped into a classroom, where there were barely a dozen desks.
Ten years ago, each class at the school had at least fifty to sixty students.
Ten years ago, many students would stay behind to study after class.
Now, the school didn’t even hold evening study sessions anymore.
In the darkness, a little light caught his eye.
Looking up, he saw a girl in her late teens, buried in correcting assignments in a teacher’s dorm living room.
She would be laughing one moment, then frowning the next.
Watching her in silence, her earnest demeanor touched his heart.
Once, his dream had been to become a teacher.
As if feeling his gaze, the girl looked up and flashed him a slight smile.
Their eyes met.
A beautiful face, clear eyes, and a clean smile; as pure and fresh as nature itself.
And like a blank piece of paper, free of any color.
His heart skipped a beat all of a sudden.
