Chapter 162: Chapter 111: A Speed Contest?_2
For things that can’t be planted in the God Demon Prison, her interest is immediately reduced by forty to fifty percent.
Conveniently while everyone’s attention was distracted, she bargained with a Loose Cultivator for a small Seven-leaf Ganoderma at a very low price, since the seller was in a hurry to gather some Spiritual Tea and let go of the Ganoderma at a thirty percent discount.
Wen Liangyu was going to stay at the tea market for a bit longer, so Ning Xiaoxian waved him goodbye. Coming out for just half a day today squeezed the remaining study time quite tightly, as Changtian would not allow her to fall behind on her studies. Ah, this was just like Shui Yun, who if she goes out to eat at noon, must type till she spits blood in the afternoon and evening.
The streets of the residential area were deserted as most people were either at the teahouse or on their way there, and the little alley she turned into was even more so. As soon as she reached the entrance of the alley, she heard the sound of children playing and quarreling. With her keen hearing, she discerned Chengcheng’s voice instantly. As she got closer, she realized it was a children’s squabble.
Turned out that since the teacher was also going to the tea meeting this afternoon to join the fun, half a day off was given at the school. Chengcheng boasted about the new pet at home to Miss Zhang from the neighboring Zhang Dahu’s household for half a day, and as soon as class ended, he hurried home to show off the pet. This pet is a small black kitten, only two months old, about the size of Ning Xiaoxian’s palm, likely found by a merchant team on the road and was bought by Qinghe’s father to please Qinghe.
Any animal’s young ones are considered cute, and this little kitten was no exception – plump and fluffy, it was simply the ultimate girl killer, so Miss Zhang held it lovingly and looked at Chengcheng with shining eyes. This scene was just witnessed by Gouzi and his friends, who had a feud with Chengcheng from a previous fight that left Chengcheng bruised. Now seeing him winning a girl’s heart, they couldn’t hold back from causing trouble.
They were just children, after all. A few harsh words and, of course, it led to a fight. But Chengcheng, having practiced martial arts with Qinghe’s father for several days, was itching for a chance to take revenge. Now that the enemies showed up, he was not angry but pleased. He handed the kitten to Miss Zhang and got ready to fight.
The outcome isn’t much to tell. The desperate techniques used by Qinghe’s father, if used by adults, are focused, targeting vital points without wasting any energy. But employed by Chengcheng, they made Ning Xiaoxian laugh until she almost fell over. The child truly grasped the essence of ’using all means necessary’: gouging, scratching, and kicking below the belt. Though his moves were indecent, they were effective. With his agile build, he was uncatchable by the other children and managed to defeat them one by one.
She estimated that in just a few dozen seconds, Chengcheng had knocked three tall and strong kids to the ground, all holding their heads and groaning in pain.
The only child left standing, of course, was Gouzi. He glanced at his fallen friends, then at Chengcheng who was catching his breath, took a few steps back, and suddenly turned and ran. Chengcheng naturally didn’t chase after him; he just felt satisfied and proud in his small chest.
Logically, this should have been the end of the matter since it was just a minor scuffle between a few children. Who would have known that just as Gouzi reached the mouth of the alley, a yellow shadow flashed by, snatched him up, and took off! Gouzi was stunned before he could scream, and after just one shout, the yellow shadow slapped the back of his neck, knocking him unconscious.
The swift incident happened so rapidly that neither Chengcheng nor Miss Zhang in the alley could see what exactly happened. Ning Xiaoxian’s expression, however, suddenly turned grave; she darted out from her hiding spot, shouting sternly: "Chengcheng, take all the children into the house immediately, lock the door, quickly!" Considering how ruthlessly that being had struck the child, Gouzi was only a seven or eight-year-old with delicate bones, and she worried if his neck was injured.
Chengcheng was shocked and hadn’t yet reacted when he saw his sister, who lived in their courtyard, chasing after the yellow shadow with swift and light movements. He greatly admired this sister for convincing Uncle Qinghe’s father to teach him martial arts, which led to his victorious moment today. Hearing her stern command, it must be an urgent situation, so he couldn’t help but follow her instructions. But the few guys on the ground were his arch-enemies, the ones who beat him black and blue not long ago, and he had just managed to overpower them. Was he now supposed to bring them home?
Ning Xiaoxian, rushing to the entrance of the alley, saw Chengcheng still hesitating and immediately understood his thoughts. Feeling both anxious and amused, she shouted, "Save them, and they’ll listen to you from now on!" before disappearing from sight.
Chengcheng’s eyes lit up after hearing her words. He quickly helped the three little boys up, along with Miss Zhang, and said, "There’s a demon, follow me quickly," leading all the children back to his home. He carefully locked the door and closed the windows, as Ning Xiaoxian had instructed. Qinghe was surprised to see her son suddenly return home with a group of battered friends. Learning about the demon kidnapping, she quickly ushered all the children inside.
Qinghe’s father had returned to the merchant team to help, so there was one less capable person to give chase to the yellow shadow today.
Ning Xiaoxian was now very fast; she could leap far just by the strength of her leg muscles, without moving her torso. This was the Arrow Step technique invented by Qinghe’s father, used for long-distance pursuits and escapes, saving energy and speed. This way, she was slightly faster than the yellow shadow ahead, estimating to catch up in a few dozen seconds.
Before Ning Xiaoxian could ask, Changtian offered an explanation: "That’s a Yellow Turban Warrior, an Immortal Official invited to possess a body, adept at offenses and defenses and not running. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be able to catch up." (To be continued. If you like this book, please come to Qidian (qidian.com) to cast your Monthly Ticket and recommendation ticket.
