Chapter 123: Chapter 91 Cultivator (Request for Pink Tickets)
She sighed softly. The more Changtian understood human nature and worldly affairs, the shrewder and more ruthless he became. It seemed that, just as he suggested, the future of this little cultivator was rather bleak. It appeared that not only was her own cultivation journey full of hardship and difficulty, but even within the Immortal Sect, it wasn’t easy for the young disciples to secure a firm standing.
Before she could dwell on it further, another customer approached her stall. This cultivator had a long, three-bearded mustache and looked quite like an immortal with an air of Daoist nobility. He glanced at the sign in front of Ning Xiaoxian’s stall before speaking up: "Young friend, are you interested in purchasing a Pill Furnace?"
A Pill Furnace? In a few more days, she would be able to use Divine Power for Alchemy, so of course she was interested in acquiring a good Pill Furnace. It was just unfortunate that the decent furnaces she had seen at the mutual market today were all extraordinarily expensive.
The Pill Furnaces of the Immortal clans were not as bulky as those used by mortals. The furnace this cultivator took out was only the size of a palm, with a beautiful purple-gold color that shone brilliantly under the sunlight, indicating that it was extraordinary. There were also mysterious runes engraved on the body of the furnace that occasionally flickered with silver light.
She lifted the lid to look inside, and there was a small, purple vortex slowly rotating within, resembling an endlessly flowing galaxy that seemed to draw one’s gaze into its depths. It was unknown how many herbs had been refined with this furnace, but a faint medicinal fragrance wafting from it was refreshing and invigorating.
This object was clearly not an ordinary item. Ning Xiaoxian repeated her old trick, bringing the small furnace up for a closer inspection, and gently touched the engraved runes on the furnace body, which was actually an attempt to let the Demon Eye make a closer observation. After a few moments, Changtian softly exclaimed "Oh?" as if surprised.
"Young lady, have you seen enough?" asked the cultivator, who could not help but speak up when he saw her examining the furnace without a word.
Changtian did not make any sound; presumably he was judging the quality of the furnace, so she needed to stall for time. "True Master, may I ask about the origin of this furnace?"
The cultivator stroked his long mustache and launched into an explanation: "Young lady, did you know that three hundred miles to the west from here lies an illusion named ’Heavenly Ladder’?"
An illusion? Heavenly Ladder? She had not heard of it and shook her head honestly.
"There are many mysterious illusions in this world that form their own spaces and open up to people at irregular intervals. Each has different entry requirements. The Heavenly Ladder is a very special one, allowing only mortals to enter and search for treasures. After forty-eight hours, all will be transmitted out. Everyone’s finds are unique, so it’s all down to luck," he paused then continued, "I have a distant nephew who was fortunate enough to enter the Heavenly Ladder and he brought out this Pill Furnace for me."
"I have tested it, and when using it to refine elixirs, it can increase the Refining efficiency by one and a half percent."
An increase in Refining efficiency by one and a half percent? That’s quite considerable! Her eyes lit up. The Refining efficiency is the probability of successfully creating an elixir. The more she refined, the more she realized how difficult it was to advance in this art. A good Pill Furnace not only enhances the grade of the elixirs, but most importantly, it improves the chance of Refining success!
But before she could speak, a voice from the side hurriedly interjected: "That’s also very significant. How much for this furnace? I’ll take it!"
It was another cultivator who was squatting next to her. He had been picking through another stall for a while and seemed to be eavesdropping on their conversation.
Seeing the three-bearded monk and Ning Xiaoxian taken aback, he urged them: "How much is it? This furnace is good, I’ll take it."
However, the three-bearded monk did not look at him and instead heaved a sigh: "This furnace is my beloved treasure. I wouldn’t be selling it if I weren’t in urgent need of money... At the very least, I would have to sell it for 800 Spirit Stones! Otherwise, I’d really be letting it down." His words carried endless sighs.
Spirit Stones? That price was truly fair; the lowest-priced furnaces she had seen at several stalls today were no less than 1,500 Spirit Stones. This furnace had such fine quality, and yet it could be had for less than one thousand Spirit Stones.
The other cultivator also said: "It’s not expensive. I reckon this mortal young lady cannot afford that much. Why don’t you sell it to me instead?"
The three-bearded monk shook his head: "Hold on. Business must observe the order of first come, first served. Since I have already started discussions with this lady, I have to see what she thinks before deciding." After that, he looked towards Ning Xiaoxian.
She was really getting anxious at this point, and Changtian suddenly said quickly: "Turn this cauldron over and let me have another look." She took the furnace from the hands of the three-bearded cultivator and flipped it over again, especially examining the bottom thoroughly. She too saw that there seemed to be three vermilion characters painted on the bottom of the furnace, carrying an ancient charm, though she did not recognize the script. "What do these three characters mean?"
