Chapter 213: Chapter 191: Additional Resources_2

The Royal Arts Academy is obviously more prestigious than the Martial Arts Schools. They can provide more detailed cultivation methods. However, commoners have never been taught the distinctions of previous methods because since the era of Martial Arts Schools, such information has been deemed unnecessary, with few methods available for selection.

Yan Xiaobao spent time reflecting, constantly considering the risks of selling advanced martial arts techniques. He tried to devise other ways to earn money, but no matter what plans he proposed, none could yield substantial income.

Yan Xiaobao sighed deeply, unable to completely ignore the discomfort brought by the thought of Deng Wu suddenly mastering advanced martial arts. Thus, he decided to stop worrying about it. Instead, his gaze swept over the other students.

Most of the commoners focused intently on every word spoken by Teacher Li Yuan, while the nobles busied themselves with other activities. Some whispered nearby in low voices, while others blatantly ridiculed the commoners. When they noticed his gaze, several nobles glared fiercely at Yan Xiaobao before he turned his attention back to Wang Julong.

Wang Julong was another reason Yan Xiaobao had to stay vigilant. While Deng Wu was intimidating due to his knowledge, Yan Xiaobao had heard that Deng Wu was not a particularly brilliant prodigy, limiting his chances of unlocking skills.

In contrast, Wang Julong’s demeanor was more imposing, and he had refined enough techniques to potentially defeat Yan Xiaobao. If he possessed another high-level skill, it was certain that Yan Xiaobao could not triumph with his current repertoire.

Teacher Li Yuan finally wrapped up his lecture on Qi Skill before moving on to the academy’s rules surrounding duels.

Having already heard all the rules from Rong Ming and Ma Kong prior to his duel with Wang Julong, Yan Xiaobao decided to ignore the lecture entirely. Instead, he became engrossed in studying a non-combat martial art technique ranking in the lower grades—Fire Spark.

Lan Feng was about to once again complain about the selection of martial arts techniques, but he noticed a subtle change in Yan Xiaobao’s soul—a sense of anticipation, as though he had discovered something hidden within the technique scroll. Blue Phoenix decided to remain silent and wait.

Wang Julong noticed the white-haired boy had started researching and narrowed his eyes. He quickly swore to defeat Yan Xiaobao, then closed his eyes to begin meditating, slowly absorbing the essence in the room and refining it into Qi.

Everyone in the room noticed the movement of essence and turned to watch Wang Julong’s cultivation. The scene stunned most commoners, as they had never expected someone to be bold enough to openly ignore the teacher’s ongoing speech and begin meditating instead.

However, as they looked at Wang Julong, their attention shifted to Yan Xiaobao, who was being compared to the two prodigies. Observing him, the students were even more shocked to realize that neither of the two seemed concerned about the teacher’s lecture. Sitting serenely, Yan Xiaobao focused completely on studying martial arts techniques.

The commoners found themselves amazed at these two boys. Though they were clearly of the same age group, it felt as if the pair lived in an entirely different world. Their indifferent attitude and resolute expressions clearly revealed to others what true genius entailed.

Watching these two children, Teacher Li Yuan could only sigh softly. Competition was a remarkable thing, especially as it accelerated their growth far better than solitary practice. Yet Li Yuan couldn’t help but feel a bit helpless at the sight of both boys blatantly ignoring him and paying no attention to his lecture.

Clearing his throat, he continued explaining the rules of duels, covering the open arenas available for everyone and the student medallions that recorded victories and losses.

When Teacher Li Yuan reached the part about the rewards for defeating opponents—opportunities for higher-ranked courtyards, and even the possibility of mountain-top courtyards—the students’ excitement knew no bounds. Greed and anticipation gleamed in their eyes as they started conversing with one another, discussing the potential for winning a mountain-top courtyard.

Unfortunately, as Teacher Li Yuan continued speaking and announced the names of the two current residents of the mountain-top courtyards, Yan Xiaobao and Wang Julong, the excitement quickly dissipated.

Though the allure of mountain-top courtyards was incredible, they were not tempting enough to delude the students into thinking they could defeat either of the two occupants.

"However," Teacher Li Yuan said, "there is another way to earn the privilege of residing in the mountain-top courtyards." His comment left students holding their breath, eager to hear something more achievable.

"At the end of each semester, a competition will be held by the Liluo City Royal Arts Academy branch. The academy encourages all students to participate, as every participant will receive additional medicinal rewards."

Yan Xiaobao slowly looked up from the scroll in his hand, intrigued by the teacher’s words. He had heard about the competition before but only knew that the mountain-top courtyards were among the prizes.

Teacher Li Yuan noticed Yan Xiaobao suddenly paying attention to him, causing an elated expression to appear on his face. Quickly, he continued, "The higher a student’s ranking, the greater their rewards—rights to reside in the mountain-top courtyards, high-tier pills, and even permission to access the advanced martial arts technique room in the skills hall!"

These additional prizes held great value to both Yan Xiaobao and Wang Julong. Though they already lived in mountain-top courtyards, they could always benefit from powerful martial arts techniques. Yan Xiaobao knew he could rely on Lan Feng to provide sect techniques, but he also understood that Lan Feng hadn’t created all sect techniques, and integrating more into their collection would never hurt.

Among the rewards, the high-grade medicinal pills were clearly the most enticing. Particularly those considered top-tier. At the moment, Yan Xiaobao didn’t know how much martial arts skills could earn if sold, nor did he understand the potential cost of medicines. Thus, he couldn’t help but think that even if he sold skills, he might still lack the funds to purchase pills.

Teacher Li Yuan concluded the class following the announcement about the Royal Academy tournament. As class ended, the entire mountain echoed with the sound of a loud bell, signaling the start of lunchtime at the dining hall.

Several students immediately rushed out of Qi Li’s class to head for the dining hall, while others gathered to discuss topics mentioned in the first lesson.

Teacher Li Yuan remained in the classroom for a while, checking to see if any students had questions for him, but as none approached, he quickly exited the door.

Yan Xiaobao stayed in his seat near the back of the room, observing the students leaving. While there were no more lectures scheduled for today, Yan Xiaobao still had plans he wished to organize.

Standing up slowly, he became one of the last students to leave the room. Yet, Wang Julong and his followers remained inside, with Wang Julong meditating—likely still refining the essence he had absorbed earlier—and the other noble children patiently waiting for him to finish.

As Yan Xiaobao walked past them, he couldn’t help but chuckle. Each child glared at him fiercely, reaching out as if to shield Wang Julong, seemingly prepared to fend off a sudden attack from Yan Xiaobao while Wang Julong remained focused.

Upon leaving the hall, Yan Xiaobao didn’t head toward the dormitory area where the dining hall was located. Instead, he ventured deeper into the mountainous area housing different school areas, triggering a flicker of unease in Lan Feng’s spirit.

’No food?’ Lan Feng asked, his tone filled with desperation, as though the end of the world was near, eliciting a small laugh from Yan Xiaobao.

"Don’t worry," Yan Xiaobao assured the blue-feathered boy. "We’ll eat soon. But first, there’s something I need to check."

Lan Feng felt puzzled. Though he shared a soul with Yan Xiaobao, they could only sense each other’s emotions. Whatever Yan Xiaobao intended remained completely obscured from him. Thus, Lan Feng watched with curiosity as Yan Xiaobao headed toward the library.

Yan Xiaobao had to pass through three mountain ridges to reach the library. As he regarded the building, he couldn’t help but marvel at its design. All other academy buildings were constructed atop the mountains, but this library was built into the mountains themselves. Towers had been carved out of the cliffs, while the interiors had been transformed into a massive hall connected with tunnels branching into smaller study rooms.

To enter the library, Yan Xiaobao had to pass through two colossal stone gates. As he approached the building, his skin prickled with goosebumps from the drop in temperature, caused by the sunlit mountain-top shading the structure.

A wave of warm air swept out from the building, brushing across Yan Xiaobao and making him smile slightly as he hurried inside.

Despite the expansive size of the library stretching across an entire mountain zone, it was far quieter here than in other parts of the academy. Only a few elders could be seen scattered throughout the rows of bookshelves.
