Chapter 35: Chapter 35 The Work Has Arrived

So the damage was massive, but the actual casualties weren’t substantial.

Don’t be fooled by Taibai Jinxing’s old-man look; he achieved enlightenment through slaughter. While he’s now working a desk job, which suppresses his combat prowess, his cultivation is indisputably at the Golden Immortal level.

With this level of cultivation, he could begin foraying into the Chaos. Plus, Nuwa didn’t particularly try to keep her hiding place secret.

After putting in some effort, Taibai Jinxing managed to locate Taisu Heaven.

At the gates of Nuwa Palace, Qingluan, dressed in a flowing blue gown, gracefully strolled out.

As they say, an official before a prime minister’s door must be at least a third rank. Not to mention she’s the chauffeur and chief secretary of a Saint, and this time, the visitor came to beg for help.

Taibai Jinxing bowed and scraped as he said, "Greetings, Daoist Friend. This poor Daoist is Taibai Jinxing. There is a rift in the Primordial Heaven and Earth, and I have come under the orders of the Great Venerable to request an audience with Lady Nuwa. May she take pity on the beings of the Primordial Realm."

Qingluan, who had been accompanying Nuwa watching the "live broadcast," harbored no goodwill toward Hao Tian, who exploited Nezha for his own gain. Of course, this was also Nuwa’s stance.

With a blank expression, Qingluan said, "The Lady is currently in seclusion and has no time to deal with such matters."

Taibai Jinxing, well-informed within the Heavenly Court, was also dumbfounded by Hao Tian’s schemes. You’re already a Quasi-Saint; do you really need such petty things?

How could external objects be of any use to you?

Was it really worth alienating Nuwa’s entire lineage over such trivial matters?

Perhaps differing positions lead to differing perspectives.

Watching Taibai Jinxing pacing back and forth, Qingluan waited a while longer before lazily saying, "However..."

As a seasoned old fox, Taibai Jinxing played along with Qingluan’s act, pretending to be drenched in sweat with nervous anticipation.

Honestly, hiding out in Taisu Heaven now felt safer than being in the Palace of the Polestar!

If Xingtian wanted to pick a fight, who he fought was none of Taibai Jinxing’s business!

Upon hearing "However," he immediately displayed an eager expression.

Qingluan continued, "The Lady does have a disciple who has learned a few true skills. Perhaps you could try seeking him out."

"May I ask where this Daoist Friend currently resides?"

"He is presently at the Three Mountains Pass in Yin Shang."

Taibai Jinxing made another trip back to the Palace of the Polestar. Upon hearing the report, Hao Tian waved his hand decisively and said, "Let’s just recruit him! Once he joins our ranks, we won’t even need to pay him anymore."

Thus, Taibai Jinxing, as an envoy, headed to the Three Mountains Pass.

...

Feeling that something had happened in Heaven and Earth, Nezha wasn’t running wild as usual and stayed at the Three Mountains Pass to cultivate.

He had no idea that his master had signed him up for a gig.

It wasn’t until one day when a subordinate came to report that an old Daoist with a white beard, claiming to be Taibai Jinxing, had come to recruit him.

Nezha found it baffling, yet oddly familiar. "I haven’t even stirred up a Big Struggle in Heaven yet!"

Heading out to meet Taibai Jinxing, Nezha listened as the latter blabbered on, treating him like a child: promises of becoming a high-ranking official in Heaven, a life free from disasters, ultimate freedom and bliss. And, of course, patching up the rift in the earth was merely a trial task to test his abilities, leading to a well-paying permanent job full of benefits later.

Nezha wasn’t an old fox in these matters, but he wasn’t stupid. Piecing things together, he quickly gained some idea of what was going on. Moreover, he already had a distaste for Hao Tian, let alone agreeing to his plans.

While listening to Taibai Jinxing’s endless talking, Nezha was already scheming how to maximize his benefits.

The rift had to be patched up; this was both his and his master’s responsibility. Besides, no one else could do it anyway.

However, the rewards needed to be substantial.

Joining Heaven was acceptable. Considering it was currently the time of the Divine Enthronement Tribulation, taking a temporary position up there would bring more benefits than drawbacks.

But he couldn’t appear too eager. His unique expertise in the Primordial Realm was undoubtedly a scarce talent.

Having figured this out, Nezha gazed smilingly at Taibai Jinxing, who was spitting and gesturing while speaking.

Feeling a bit awkward at Nezha’s silence, Taibai Jinxing realized that this young fellow wasn’t so easily fooled despite his age.

"Daoist Friend, what will it take for you to step in?"

"I am but a humble student of the arts. It’s better if you find someone else, Immortal Elder."

Taibai Jinxing’s face darkened. There were only two "civil engineers" in the Primordial Realm; who else could he possibly find? And he was already annoyed at his stingy boss—expecting work without pay.

"Very well, this humble one shall return to discuss further!"

Watching Taibai Jinxing ride a cloud back to Heaven, Nezha thought to himself, "This is exactly why all the Primordial Immortals avoid joining the Heavenly Court. One order from the boss, and the subordinates run themselves ragged."

From afar, Deng Chanyu came running up, somewhat concerned. "Nezha, will there be danger in patching the rift in Heaven and Earth?"

Nezha lightly pinched Deng Chanyu’s cheek and said, "Don’t worry, I’m just angling for more benefits."

Nezha knew well that if he didn’t charge a high price the first time, he wouldn’t stand a chance later.

...

Taibai Jinxing carefully avoided Xingtian, who was still wreaking havoc, and entered the Palace of the Polestar to report to Hao Tian. Hao Tian, exasperated, realized the treasure he’d squeezed out of the Dragon Clan wasn’t even warming his hands before he had to cough it up again.

After promising rewards to Nezha, Taibai Jinxing returned to the Three Mountains Pass, where Nezha, with a stoic expression, listened as the rewards were itemized one by one.

After all the rewards were finally listed, and still seeing no sign of agreement from Nezha, Taibai Jinxing grew anxious. "Daoist Friend, this compensation is quite generous. What more could you possibly want?"

"The compensation is indeed sufficient, and I can see Heaven’s sincerity. However, repairing the rift requires materials. Surely you don’t expect me to provide those? What kind of rare treasures do you think are needed for such a repair? I’ve only been cultivating for a dozen years and don’t have those resources."

Expertise across industries doesn’t translate easily, and repairing Heaven and Earth is an intensely specialized craft. Taibai Jinxing emphatically nodded in agreement.

Nezha added, "Moreover, I am only at the Earth Immortal stage of cultivation, and my Mana is rather limited. I’ve heard that the Ren Water Peaches from Heaven can replenish Mana. I’ll be needing some of those, too."

Taibai Jinxing nodded again in agreement. In the Primordial Realm, Mana was the energy that powered the Great Dao. Without Mana, indeed, nothing could be accomplished.

And with that, the old Immortal set off once more.

When Hao Tian saw Taibai Jinxing return yet again, he was quite irritated. "Why are you so greedy?"

But after listening to Taibai Jinxing’s reasoning, he couldn’t help but nod. It made a strange sort of sense.

"The materials for the repair will be provided by Heaven. Additionally, obtain from Queen Mother Yaochi three 5,000-year peaches, ten 3,000-year peaches, and thirty 1,000-year peaches."

...

This time, Nezha accepted the peaches without further stalling. He handed three 1,000-year peaches to Deng Chanyu before summoning his old ox and riding off.

At present, cultivating his own strength remained the priority. The 1,000-year peaches would suffice for now.

Stopping briefly in Jizhou, he checked on Daji and handed her four peaches.

Ignoring Daji’s fawning gaze, he left her with the instruction, "Cultivate well."

The next stop was Chentang Pass. Perhaps due to fewer dealings with the Li Family in this incarnation, the interactions between Nezha and them had been pleasant so far.

Leaving four peaches behind under Lady Yin’s reluctant gaze, Nezha departed.

Taibai Jinxing, quietly following along, made no comments.

The next destination was White Bone Mountain. This time, Nezha wasn’t delivering peaches but hiring someone. The diligent and reliable Shi Ji was practically the ideal employee.

Shi Ji was delighted at Nezha’s arrival. She hadn’t fully refined the Five-Colored Stone from last time, but it had significantly improved her foundation, even slightly loosening her bottleneck at the Golden Immortal stage.
