Chapter 194: Chapter 193: I’ll Just Marry You Then!
Tushan Bai Ya silently mocked herself: "You look proper, but turns out you’re just a pervert."
Her manners were impeccable. No matter how much she complained internally, her face revealed nothing. Instead, she advised like a kind elder sister, "Young Master, you really know how to joke. My family has lived in this mountain for generations; where would you find a Fox Lady here?"
Nezha pretended to scrutinize "Miss Bai" for a moment and said, "Whether you truly don’t know or just pretend not to, there’s no doubt there is one. However, her charm might not hold a candle to Miss Bai."
Tushan Bai Ya’s face flushed slightly. Grandmother was indeed right—scholarly men of the Human Clan are all full of flowery words.
"Young Master, don’t think words of flattery will allow you to ascend the mountain. We stopped you only to save you from throwing your life away recklessly."
Nezha remained expressionless, yet his heart was increasingly assured that this Tushan Fox Clan was genuinely virtuous.
"And if I insist on climbing the mountain?"
Tushan Bai Ya pursed her crimson lips and sighed helplessly, "It’s already late now. How about Young Master rests at my home tonight and climbs the mountain early tomorrow?"
"Agreed. But I must tell you, I am a married man. Don’t get any funny ideas."
Tushan Bai Ya rolled her eyes. Great, another one to deal with. Married, yet coming to Tushan to chase Little Fox Ladies—clearly, not an honorable man. She made a mental note to warn the younger foxes to stay far away from him.
This man spouts nothing but sweet talk. Other foxes might not handle him, so Sister Bai herself must step in!
Nezha followed Uncle Bai and Miss Bai through winding paths until they arrived at a mansion. The estate was rather luxurious for the wilderness, and an elderly woman accompanied by four or five attendants came out to greet them.
Nezha couldn’t help but think, foxes are indeed foxes—their logic is so far removed from humans’. How could there be a grand mansion in such a desolate mountain?
Bai Ya and the others evidently didn’t realize their incongruity as they guided Nezha into the residence and enthusiastically hosted him.
During the feast.
"Young Master arrived in such haste; may I inquire what your name is?"
"I am Li Bai, a poet, also moonlighting as a Sword Immortal."
Bai Ya and a few fox maids wearing humanoid illusions seemed intrigued.
"Young Master, would you be willing to recite a poem?"
"Since you’ve graciously treated me, I would not decline."
...
Nezha casually recited two poems, instantly earning Bai Ya’s newfound respect. The surrounding fox maids disguised as young ladies whispered among themselves.
Bai Ya observed the increasingly drunk and slyly glancing "Li Bai" and shook her head secretly. His looks and talent were indeed top-notch, but with his flirtatious demeanor, he was certainly not ideal spouse material.
Tonight, she must warn him again to avoid leading others astray.
’Li Bai’ glanced around—not due to lust, but to carefully gauge the demon energy of the foxes.
These fox demons were certainly of noble lineage—their demon energy was pure, devoid of foulness, clearly nurtured from a young age without engaging in slaughter.
After the banquet, ’Li Bai’ feigned returning to his quarters while leaving behind some concealed tactics.
The maids, Uncle Bai, and the elderly woman all dropped their illusions, transforming into white, red, and gray little foxes who surrounded Bai Ya and twirled in circles.
"Sister, what does ’With fair hands pluck the lotus, steps veiled like walking Taiqing’ mean?"
"Yeah, Sister, I don’t get it either. Was Young Master Li complimenting my paws?"
Bai Ya grew annoyed as the group of foxes bombarded her with questions. Like a kindergarten leader, she slapped her hand loudly and said:
"Quiet down!"
The little foxes immediately tucked their tails and lowered their heads.
Bai Ya sighed, realizing she had underestimated Li Bai’s literary prowess.
"Listen up, all of you! Keep your distance from Li Bai. That man is full of sweet talk, always deceiving naive young foxes. But you’re clever, so you won’t fall for his tricks, right?"
The little foxes quickly nodded their heads.
"Good. I’m taking him down the mountain. You all go back to your cultivation!"
With that, Bai Ya got up and left the room.
Just as Bai Ya disappeared from sight, the little foxes started whispering among themselves. The fox posing as Uncle Bai said, "We’re too smart to be fooled by Sister Bai. I bet she’s the one who fancies that scholar, which is why she doesn’t want us near him!"
A nearby small white fox immediately chimed in, "Exactly, exactly! During the banquet, Sister Bai kept staring at Li Bai!"
"I saw it too!"
...
Unbeknownst to Bai Ya, her reputation was being unjustly tarnished. Meanwhile, she arrived at ’Li Bai’s’ quarters and gently blew a pink smoke into the room.
After a moment, she stepped inside and waved her wide sleeves, wrapping Li Bai in snow-white silk ribbons like a mummy, leaving only a nose exposed.
Looking at him bundled up, Bai Ya couldn’t help laughing. In truth, she greatly admired Li Bai’s talent. But growing up listening to Aunt Nu Jiao’s stories about heroes, she vowed that if she ever had a husband, he would be a great, sky-conquering hero!
She then dragged Li Bai with the ribbons, riding clouds down the mountain.
Of course, Nezha wasn’t subdued by the small dose of illusion smoke. He simply decided his probing had yielded enough information and saw no reason to prolong the charade.
However, trouble arose just as Bai Ya reached the foot of the mountain.
"Bai Ya, lass, what are you up to?"
"Indeed, fate seems to bring us together. I’ve brought a little monster to propose marriage, yet here you are—the rightful bride herself! Call it destiny!"
Bai Ya stared disdainfully at the green-skinned lizard man before her and said, "I came out to toss garbage. Who said I’d marry you?"
Nezha: "..."
How did I suddenly become garbage?
The lizard monster flicked its tongue before pointing to the ’white cocoon.’ "There’s a human in there, isn’t there?"
Without hesitation, it jabbed its fork towards the cocoon.
Bai Ya reacted swiftly, pulling back immediately. Yet the lizard monster opened its huge maw, a mucus-covered tongue shooting directly towards Nezha.
There was no dodging now. The foul-smelling tongue was far too disgusting to endure.
With a resonant clang of sword ringing, the bindings scattered, and a streak of sword light flashed by, slicing the lizard monster’s tongue into ribbons.
Moments later, a flash of white light revealed Li Bai with his sword drawn.
The lizard monster wailed, clutching its bloodied mouth, and screeched, "You, you’re an Immortal Sword?!"
Before Nezha could respond, Bai Ya added coolly, "He’s just a wandering poet. Now scram! I’ll never marry you."
The lizard monster, realizing it was outmatched, growled bitterly and retreated with its minions.
Nezha found himself puzzled. That creature wasn’t strong—worse, even, than Bai Ya. Yet it dared saunter up so boldly to force a marriage alliance?
Bai Ya, however, seemed unwilling to elaborate. She quickly blurted, "Li Bai, leave this place at once. That monster is backed by a Demon King. You wouldn’t stand a chance. Flee while you can still save your life."
Nezha couldn’t help but raise his evaluation of the Tushan Fox Demons yet again.
"Those of us who slay demons and vanquish evil across the realms must never cower."
Bai Ya heard Nezha’s boastful remark and surprisingly believed him. She must have conjured dramatic thoughts in her mind because she hesitated before sighing, "You idiot, risking your life for beauty? Fine, fine. If Tushan truly cannot escape this calamity, I’ll marry you instead!"
