Chapter 299 - Chapter 299 Chapter 299 Doing the Accounts
Chapter 299: Chapter 299: Doing the Accounts Chapter 299: Chapter 299: Doing the Accounts Su Yunjin really didn’t believe Gu Ya had that ability.
Those two thick stacks of account books!
Without any auxiliary tools, relying solely on mental arithmetic or pen and paper calculations, Su Yunjin couldn’t believe that Gu Ya had such skills!
“Yunjin, if you don’t believe me, you’ll know in three days whether I can finish it or not,” Gu Ya didn’t say much, but in three days, he would have the account books ready. By then, his little wife would see for herself and believe even if she didn’t want to.
Talking about it now was less useful than just finishing the task and showing his little wife.
Gu Ya’s absolute certainty and confidence somehow made Su Yunjin somewhat trust him. Could it be that Gu Ya really had the ability to finish the account books in such a short time?
Su Yunjin was half-convinced, and Gu Ya decided to start on the accounting now. “Yunjin, there is paper, a brush, and ink in the cabinet. Could you help me get those things? I will start right now.”
Su Yunjin had never seen such items in the house before. When Gu Ya told her, she asked him, “Which cabinet?”
“The one on the far left, near the wall–that cabinet. Inside, there’s a small wooden box. Bring it here; everything is in that box.”
Looking in the direction Gu Ya was pointing, Su Yunjin knew where the little wooden box was! She did as Gu Ya instructed, opening the cabinet, and sure enough, there was a small wooden box underneath the old cabinet.
After bringing out the wooden box, Su Yunjin asked Gu Ya, “Husband, is this the box you were referring to?”
“Exactly! That’s the one. Yunjin, bring it over to me,” Gu Ya nodded.
Su Yunjin, carrying the wooden box, walked over to Gu Ya and handed him the box. When Gu Ya opened it, Yunjin, standing beside him, saw the writing brush, rough paper, an ink stone, and other such items inside–and at the bottom, there was an abacus.
Su Yunjin thought to herself that the abacus must be what Gu Ya used for accounting.
Yet to her surprise, Gu Ya only took out the brush and paper and didn’t even touch the abacus, showing no intention of using it at all.
Su Yunjin was taken aback and asked Gu Ya, “Husband, aren’t you going to use the abacus?”
“Yunjin, I have never needed it for accounting.” Gu Ya was proficient in accounting through mental calculations, not by using an abacus. Gu Ya considered the device a waste of time and a hindrance to speed. He usually didn’t use an abacus.
Without an abacus, what was Gu Ya going to use? Mental calculations? Su Yunjin scrutinized him, sitting there, and glanced back at the two thick stacks of account books Ding Wang had brought from Fuman Building. Each stack was not thin. All these accounts to be calculated without an abacus… Could he, Gu Ya, really manage to calculate them?
The little wife didn’t know about his accounting skills; skepticism was only natural. Gu Ya didn’t bother to explain. It was the first time he had done accounting while lying in bed. Gu Ya used to do it in the Accountant’s office at Fuman Building.
Lying on the bed was inconvenient, so Gu Ya had to make do with the little wooden box that his little wife had just brought, using it as a makeshift desk. He placed the ink stone on top, making it easier for him to dip his brush and write. Gu Ya had never used that ink stone; the ink inside had long since dried up, so he would need to add some water to use it.
Su Yunjin knew the ink stone needed water; after adding it for Gu Ya, she sat down to watch him do the accounting. She was quite curious to see if Gu Ya’s accounting skills were really as impressive as they seemed.
