Chapter 1066 - Chapter 1066 Chapter 1066 Cant Put It Down
Chapter 1066: Chapter 1066: Can’t Put It Down Chapter 1066: Chapter 1066: Can’t Put It Down Su Yunjin and her husband, Gu Ya, were dressed in a manner that was far from ordinary. The jewelry shop assistant, acting like the shopkeeper, was just as shrewd.
As soon as Su Xiaofu and Fan Wenxuan left, the assistant, with a joke, asked Su Yunjin and Gu Ya, “Young master, madam, can I bring out some gold pieces for you two to look at?”
Su Yunjin had briefly glanced around and found that most of the jewelry in the shop was outdated and bulky. She didn’t like the items there.
When the assistant mentioned retrieving more items for Su Yunjin, she declined, “No need, my husband and I will come back another time. Today, I didn’t find anything suitable.”
She pulled Gu Ya along, saying, “Husband, let’s go.” Gu Ya still wanted to buy a gold hairpin and bracelets for his wife, but Su Yunjin urged him to leave.
Gu Ya didn’t move.
“Yunjin, why don’t you try selecting something else?” Since they were there already, he felt they should at least pick a couple of gold items. Gu Ya encouraged her to choose again.
The assistant, quick to notice, immediately saw that Su Yunjin did not like the styles he had previously shown. “Madam, don’t be in such a hurry to leave. We still have some good items in stock! Just wait, I’ll fetch them for you right now.”
Good items?
That piqued Su Yunjin’s interest.
She was indeed curious to see what good items this small shop still had to offer her. Keeping Su Yunjin’s attention, the assistant, delighted, quickly turned and fetched several exquisite rosewood boxes from the back room.
He placed each box on the counter and opened them one by one.
“Young madam, take a look at these hairpins and bracelets, do you like any?” The assistant pushed the opened boxes towards Su Yunjin and her husband.
Upon seeing the contents of the boxes, Su Yunjin’s eyes flashed with surprise; she hadn’t expected this modest shop to actually have valuable items.
The boxes contained several pairs of gold bracelets, all featuring filigree and hollow designs, some inset with rubies, others adorned with tourmaline and jade, and all were stylish and lightweight.
Su Yunjin liked them at first sight.
The other pairs of hairpins were equally exquisite. The assistant introduced them to Su Yunjin, “Young madam, these hairpins include a gold hairpin with inlaid jade, a coral inlaid gold hairpin, and a tourmaline plum blossom inlaid gold jade hairpin. They are the finest items in our shop, usually not shown unless we have very important customers.”
Su Yunjin liked all the jewelry, especially the gold hairpin made with tourmaline, and could hardly put it down. Gu Ya saw how pleased his wife appeared.
He knew she was satisfied.
Before his wife spoke, Gu Ya asked the assistant, “These items, we’ll take them all. How much silver do they cost?” The price was steep.
The assistant couldn’t calculate immediately.
He fiddled with the abacus for a moment.
Then the assistant looked at Gu Ya and smiled.
“Young master, these bracelets and hairpins cost altogether five hundred and twenty taels of silver, but since you’re buying quite a few items, by the rules, I can offer a discount of ten taels of silver to you,”
That made it five hundred and ten taels of silver total.
Su Yunjin, unfamiliar with jewelry value despite recognizing their quality, looked up at Gu Ya.
Gu Ya thought briefly that although the items were fine, they were worth about five hundred taels in all.
“Five hundred taels,” Gu Ya bargained.
The assistant seemed troubled, but just then, the shopkeeper came out, “Alright, five hundred taels it is. It’s hard to do business these days, rare to sell the expensive items. We’ll settle on the five hundred taels as you said,”
The shopkeeper had agreed.
The assistant naturally had no objections.
