Chapter 791: Chapter 677, Not Embarrassing, Can Think_1
After dinner, Gu Jian inquired about Xiao Yeyang’s situation at the Northern Frontier over the past two years. Xiao Yeyang briefly described it, glossing over the details, but both Gu Jian and Daohua understood the risks involved.
Watching his nephew, who now seemed much more composed and resolute than two years before, Gu Jian felt a sense of pride. Although the battlefield was dangerous, it truly did forge a person.
To prevent the mood from becoming too somber, Xiao Yeyang picked out some amusing stories from the military camp to share, bringing smiles to Daohua’s face, while Gu Jian tried to maintain his composure, though a smile was always playing on his lips.
Daohua also shared the amusing occurrences from their lives over the past two years with Xiao Yeyang.
Through the conversation, they both learned what the other had experienced during their time apart and the novel things they encountered. Once the box was opened, it was hard to close.
Watching the two of them become more and more excited as they spoke, Gu Jian silently played the part of an appreciative audience.
"There’s a shortage of supplies in the Northern Frontier, and for most of these two years, I’ve been eating dry rations. Look, haven’t I lost weight? You’ll have to nurse me back to health," Xiao Yeyang said, seizing the opportunity to complain to Daohua.
Daohua sized up Xiao Yeyang and shook her head, "I don’t think you’ve lost weight." Saying this, she reached out and prodded his arm, "It feels even more solid."
Xiao Yeyang: "..."
Daohua even turned to ask Gu Jian, "Master, do you think Xiao Yeyang has lost weight?"
Gu Jian glanced at Xiao Yeyang: "Not at all!"
Xiao Yeyang, lost for words, looked at Daohua, "Regardless, I didn’t eat well these two years, and you need to make it up to me."
Daohua laughed and gave him a sidelong glance, "That’ll depend on if I have the time."
Watching Daohua act coy, Xiao Yeyang quickly flicked her nose and said in a doting tone, "Our Miss Yan really is quite the busybody, not even preparing a meal for her husband."
Hearing this, Daohua quickly glanced at Gu Jian and, seeing he was not looking their way, glared fiercely at him and stealthily pinched his arm.
Xiao Yeyang graciously feigned pain and whispered pleas for mercy.
Gu Jian, witnessing the small gestures between the two, and watching his nephew’s eyes stuck on his apprentice all night, not wanting to watch them flirt any longer, waved his hand, "I’m going to rest, you two head back where you came from."
At these words, Xiao Yeyang’s face lit up with joy. He had wanted some alone time with Daohua; there were many things he wanted to tell her after not seeing her for two years, things he would feel embarrassed to say in front of his uncle.
"Master, then you rest, we’ll be heading down."
Gu Jian ’hmm’ed in acknowledgment and shot Xiao Yeyang a warning look, "Don’t stay out too late, get back to your room early to rest."
...
Upon leaving the courtyard, Xiao Yeyang naturally took hold of Daohua’s hand, "Come on, I’ll take you to see around my estate."
It was then that Daohua remembered that Xiao Yeyang had appeared from behind the mountain earlier, "How did you get here before?"
Xiao Yeyang smiled, "You’ll know once I take you there."
As it was nearing April, darkness fell slowly. After dinner, the sky had just started to darken.
Xiao Yeyang led Daohua to the back mountain, then they descended the stone steps from there, quickly reaching the foot of the mountain.
"Wait!"
Just as Xiao Yeyang was about to lead Daohua down the secret passageway leading to Sunflower Villa, she stopped in her tracks.
"What’s wrong?"
Daohua looked at Xiao Yeyang, "When did you arrive earlier?"
Caught off guard by the question, Xiao Yeyang’s mind flooded with the image of Daohua bathing, and he guiltily averted his gaze, "I arrived just in time to hear you talking with your maid, so I found my way to you."
The twilight was dim, and Daohua couldn’t quite make out the changes in Xiao Yeyang’s expression, and she let out a relieved ’oh’.
Wanting to steer away from that topic, Xiao Yeyang pulled Daohua onto a narrow stone-paved path lined with banana plants standing over a meter tall on both sides.
One really wouldn’t discover this path if they weren’t familiar with the villa.
Past the path, what came into view was a floral corridor filled with colorful blossoms leading straight up to the Sunflower Villa on the top of the hill.
Inhaling the fragrant air, Daohua took a deep breath and looked at Xiao Yeyang with a smile, "Xiao Yeyang, I didn’t know you liked flowers so much."
Xiao Yeyang went over to her and hugged her from behind, "It’s not that I like them, I planted these flowers because of you. Do you like them?"
Daohua smiled and nodded her head, feeling the warm touch on her neck. Seizing the moment when Xiao Yeyang was distracted, she wriggled out of his arms and dashed forward.
