The Hidden King's Stolen Wife
Chapter 88: Destitute Whore

Chapter 88: Destitute Whore

"A destitute―" Soleia wrinkled her nose as she stared at her father in horror. "What... Father, with all due respect, what is it that you’re referring to?"

"How dare you play innocent!" King Godwin roared with fury. "It is no wonder you have failed at your task of playing a simple wife. Are you truly so pathetically desperate that you require another man to sow his seed in your bed? Just so that you can bear an heir?"

"You would think Duke Elsher would at least be smart enough to know whether or not he had fornicated with a woman," Florian said with a snicker. "How could your baby possibly be of the Duke’s seed, Princess Soleia? If he had never slept with you."

"I don’t know where you have heard this from but I have not slept with a man who isn’t my husband!" Soleia shot back.

Her fists were clenched tightly at her sides. Sure, she had slept on the same bed as another man, but she knew that was hardly the sort of thing her father and Prince Florian were hinting at.

"From where did you get such a ludicrous idea?"

By her side, Reitan’s grip merely tightened on Soleia’s skirt, tugging at the fabric. Originally, Soleia ignored his movements, but the tugging became a lot harder and more frequent. She looked down, sparing the boy a glance at last, only to see that he was looking at her with watery eyes.

"Sister Soleia..." Reitan muttered, his voice choked with tears. "I am sorry, Sister. I..."

Soleia’s heart sank. Her heart throbbed painfully, and she pursed her lips, trying to ignore the sudden jolt of pain that shot through her body.

"What is it, Reitan?" Soleia asked, her voice remaining as gentle as she could muster despite the feeling of foreboding that took over her chest.

Prince Florian merely laughed gleefully.

"Would you imagine!" Florian said. "Your precious little brother told me an interesting little secret, Princess. He claimed that he saw Sir Ralph Byrone emerging from your room in the middle of the night! Now, why would the lieutenant general be in your room, I wonder?"

Soleia’s eyes widened with realization. However, Florian and King Godwin took that as a sign that the accusations were true and that she was guilty. Anger quickly colored the King’s face, turning his face a ruddy red.

"I am sorry, Sister!" Reitan cried, snot quickly dripping from his nose. "He... He said he would stop hitting me if I said... I didn’t want to... There was a blue stone―"

Soleia’s head jolted at the mention of the blue stone. She sharply turned to Florian, her voice raised.

"You used kyanite on Reitan?!"

"So what?" Florian said with a shrug. "That just proves that he spoke the truth, doesn’t it, Princess? The young prince did see a man walk out of your room in the middle of the night, a man who so happens to not be your husband."

"Father, are you hearing this?" Soleia said, turning to the King. "Prince Florian basically just admitted to abusing your true heir―"

Everyone in the room jolted when King Godwin slammed his hand against the armrest of the throne, causing their hair to stand. The King pointed a finger at Soleia, completely not sparing Florian a single glance.

"You still dare to shift the blame?!" Godwin roared. "Useless! Utterly useless! Just like your mother!" He stood up and yelled, "Guards! Escort the Princess out and back into her room. No one is allowed to visit her quarters."

"What― Father, what are you saying?" Soleia asked, stepping forward. Her feet throbbed with pain when they hit the ground, and she wobbled before quickly finding her footing again. The same pain had returned, but this time, with ten times the force of before.

"She will be confined there until the day of the ceremony!"

"What about the planning?"

"The planning?" Godwin echoed with a laugh, as though he had heard the greatest joke from the finest of jesters. "And put you right in the line of sight of your husband so that you can further ruin the relationship between him and the kingdom?"

With a wave of his hand, King Godwin easily commanded pillars of ice to rise from the ground. Reitan had to jump out of the way to avoid getting hit by the ice, but Soleia wasn’t so lucky, considering the ice surrounded her. They formed a cage that Soleia could not escape from, and she could only grip the icy cold bars, staring out hopelessly.

"You are lucky that Orion Elsher has not found out about this," Godwin seethed with rage, coming down from his throne just to spit the words right at Soleia’s face. "If your husband finds out about your infidelity and chooses to divorce you, you will be more useful dead than alive. So you best make sure he never finds out."

"I did nothing of that sort!" Soleia said, trying to defend herself. The coldness of the ice bar bit down on the skin of her hands but she ignored it as best as she could. "Sir Ralph was merely helping me with cleaning up the room, considering how unkempt it was―"

"Then you should’ve asked the maids for help," Florian said with a tut. "You’re a princess. Why are you doing the work of the servants?"

His smile quickly disappeared when King Godwin finally shot him a look, and Florian cleared his throat, looking down at his feet.

The guards also arrived right then, and the ice bars quickly melted into puddles on the ground as the men flanked Soleia.

"This way, Princess," Sir Penrose said, a look of pity flashing across his features.

"Wait, but Reitan―"

"Bring her away," King Godwin commanded, and Soleia was dragged off before she could do anything else.

She was spun around and marched out of the throne room. But before she could step too far down the hallway, Soleia suddenly stopped in her tracks.

"Please, Princess," Sir Penrose whispered to her, considering that King Godwin might still be within earshot. "Don’t make this any harder for yourself."

Soleia said nothing. Instead, she raised her hand and brushed against her upper lip where she felt a wet trail. When she pulled her hand back, her eyes widened at the sight― her fingers were coated with a thick layer of blood, and it was a never-ending stream.

More and more droplets dripped down, staining the carpets and even splashing on her gown. Even Sir Penrose’s eyes widened, along with the rest of the guards who were escorting Soleia back. She exhaled, her breath ragged as she exchanged a look with Sir Penrose.

The next thing she knew, her knees went weak and her head felt light, and she crashed straight to the floor.
