Chapter 67: An Unhinged Monster
Chapter 67: An Unhinged Monster
Elowyn let out a loud gasp as Orion’s arm fell limply to his side. He had sunk down on his knees with a grim thud. The blood needles that had dug under his skin were causing him to feel dizzy. He closed his eyes, desperately trying to stop the pounding in his head. His limbs were beginning to feel heavy.
"Orion!" Elowyn cried out, for once, actually, truly panicked. She tried to pull him up by the arm, but it was equivalent to pushing a boulder uphill. Orion didn’t budge a single inch!
In fact, it didn’t seem like he had heard her at all.
Rafael gracefully fell to the floor, wiping the blood from his nose as he stared down at Orion’s form. From this angle, Orion looked less like a feared angel, and more like a thornhound on the verge of death. A sardonic smile crossed Rafael’s face.
How the tables have turned.
"You... You monster! What did you do to him?" Elowyn hissed out.
"Nothing less than what you did to him. You poisoned his mind, I incapacitated his body," Rafael said easily, using his powers to straighten his nose. His septum popped back into place, and he winced at the pain. He wasn’t going to bother making things painless for himself.
He blew out another wad of blood, gratified that it landed on Elowyn’s pale hair.
Rafael had enough stolen medical knowledge through his years as a mistreated bastard prince, desperate to claw out a living for himself any way he knew how. There was no text too taboo for him to read, no knowledge too arcane for him to learn.
"I’ll undo the needles when I leave this corridor," Rafael continued placidly, staring down into Elowyn’s frightened eyes. "If you know what’s good for you, you’ll convince your future husband to leave me and Soleia alone. I’ll hand you your amethyst when I find one."
"I’ll tell him, I’ll tell her― I’ll tell everyone I know who you are! What you are!" Elowyn spat out, hatred in her eyes. "You’re a monstrous creature, Rafael Biroumand―"
"Orion Elsher is still under your enchantment," Rafael interrupted coldly. "If it were me, I would pay more attention to him than the man who has a vested interest in keeping him that way."
"That’s..." Elowyn’s eyes widened, and she pulled up one of Orion’s eyelids to peer at his unfocused eye. She could not detect her own abilities. "Impossible. You lie."
"You’ll know if I’m lying or not once I leave this corridor," Rafael said, his eyes glinting viciously. "Did you really think he would be so loyal to you otherwise?"
With that final comment, he turned away, leaving Elowyn dumbstruck. As she stared at his retreating back, she finally managed to unstick her tongue from the top of her mouth.
"An unhinged monster... just like always..." Elowyn muttered bitterly to herself, before turning her attention to Orion.
As promised, the blood needles dissolved, leaving red trails all over Orion’s face. Elowyn hastily wiped them clean with her handkerchief, her eyebrow twitching as she mentally cursed Rafael for his actions.
Rafael Biroumand would pay. When Orion regained consciousness, the first thing she would tell him was that he was bullying her. If he was still under her enchantment, Orion would stop at nothing to get revenge on her behalf.
"Darling, please... Can you hear me? Can you open your eyes?"
Orion let out a pained groan, but he opened his eyes obediently. His eyes were focused on her own, and he didn’t even blink. In fact, Orion hardly seemed to breathe. Elowyn hid a smirk, gratified at her influence on this man. He was her loyal hound, through and through.
"Dearest, how are you feeling?" Elowyn asked instead, her voice syrupy sweet as she cradled his head in her hands. "Look at me. You scared me just now." She pouted and rubbed his cheeks playfully. "You have to make it up to me and our baby―"
Orion suddenly stood up without warning, grabbing her by the waist. Elowyn barely had the time to register his touch before he lifted her into his arms.
"Wait, Orion, what are you doing?" Elowyn asked in surprise.
Since the incident with Soleia, Orion had treated her as though she was made out of spun glass. Forget carrying her― Orion wasn’t even willing to exert the slightest bit of force on her, for fear of hurting her and their unborn child. As such, any bedroom intimacy was out of the question.
Whatever passionate exchange they had would always be initiated by Elowyn, but more often than not, Orion Elsher had been able to control his desires fairly well. Even when the tent of his pants had stretched to the maximum, he would choose to bathe in cold water rather than exhaust his arousal on her.
So why was he so physical with her? Could it be... Elowyn cheered internally. Orion must have gotten over that mental hurdle!
Orion carried her to their shared room, and all but flung her on the bed. Elowyn squealed playfully and reached out her arms ready to embrace him. He stepped closer and sniffed her hair.
"Who did you see?"
"Orion?" Elowyn asked in confusion. "What are you talking about?"
"You saw another man!" Orion bellowed, and Elowyn flinched at the loud volume. She tried to scuttle back on the bed, only for Orion to grip her shoulders so tightly that it became painful. "Tell me the truth!"
"Orion, please let go, you’re hurting me!" Elowyn cried out, but Orion’s fingers didn’t budge a single inch. In the past, such an exclamation would have been met with Orion’s immediate apology as he tried to soothe her hurt.
But now... there was a frenzied sheen in his pupils that sent warning bells ringing through Elowyn’s mind. She needed Orion unconscious, so she could see what was wrong with him.
"You can never leave me," Orion declared fiercely. "You’re mine, forever."
"I will never leave you," Elowyn promised, keeping her voice calm as she stared into his eyes, determined not to show fear. "Orion, we’re going to be married. I will be yours. You can let go of me now."
"No," Orion said, his eyes darkening. He leaned down and enveloped Elowyn with a bruising kiss, causing her to whine and pant with desire. "I will never let you out of my sight."
