Chapter 145: Blood Stained Walls

His eyes, red with rage, scanned through the group of men who had their weapons targeted at him. There were about twenty of them — a measly number — and none of them had any sort of crystals attached to their bodies. Or at least, it wasn’t visible.

That was wonderful news. Magic users would be a little trickier, but there was nothing and no one who could stand in Orion’s way right now.

Elowyn shifted slightly in bed, her eyebrows furrowing even while unconscious. It was a small movement, and a whimper left her lips, most likely due to the pain. Orion’s expression softened as he turned back and pressed a tender kiss to his mistress’s forehead. Her eyebrows smoothened out quickly after, and Orion adjusted the blanket a little higher so she would catch a cold.

"King Godwin truly thinks too highly of himself," Orion said with a cold, joyless chuckle. "Does he truly think that mere ordinary men can measure against me?"

He clenched his fist, his veins popping against the skin of his hand with the more strength he placed into it. At the same time, the green glow of his jade ear studs grew brighter and brighter until it eventually rivaled the might of a small star that clung to his earlobes. It was so bright that some of the soldiers present even winced, squinting their eyes.

But shutting their eyes against a man — no, a beast — who was blinded with rage like Orion Elsher was their first mistake. In a flash, before any of them could react, Orion had dashed over to where they stood. With just one swoop of his arm, he easily knocked the weapons out of their grip, causing their first line of defense to fall just like that.

The men didn’t even have the time to gasp in shock before they were blasted away. Orion’s fist made contact with the man directly in front of him, and the shockwave of that impact sent those who were standing around him to fly back, knocking others down as though they were dominos and not blood and flesh.

Sven and Neville, on the other hand, gasped in shock as the blast reverberated through the room. It was a boom so loud that it rivaled the claps of thunder, and they had to raise their hands to their ears to shield them.

Thankfully, they were standing on the opposite side of the room where Lady Elowyn was. If they were at their desks... Neville stared forlornly at where his desk used to be. The whole patch of the room had blasted clean open, and there was nothing left there but open air that saw out into the courtyard that surrounded the palace.

Several of the men who were still standing brandished their weapons. They let out a battle-cry and charged straight for Orion, but their blades barely even had the chance to cut through the first layer of his skin. Orion dodged and weaved, his skin seemingly made of steel. Even when the metal of the soldiers’ swords and spears grazed him, it didn’t leave so much as a red line when it could’ve cut a normal human’s flesh clean through.

Orion merely growled, sending out punch after punch, and men snapped as though they were made of a thin piece of parchment, and the palace was nothing more than a house made of cards.

In mere seconds, Orion had wiped out twenty over royal guards. There were few of them whose bodies remained intact, but most of them weren’t even the equivalent of a pile of flesh at this point. The force of Orion’s strikes had been so great that they splattered into a thousand pieces, coloring what was left of the furniture and walls and the bodies of their fallen brethren.

Neville and Sven didn’t even dare to breathe. They had only ever heard of the General’s prowess in battle, for few men could boast about squaring against a dragon and survive. However, to see it in person was a whole different matter altogether.

Jade was a powerful stone. It enhanced human capabilities to a superhuman extreme, but for most people, it only boosted some aspects― speed, agility, strength, and endurance. Never had it been recorded in history to have boosted such traits to this extent.

Orion breathed heavily, though it was with anger and not due to exhaustion, as he stared at the aftermath of the fight― or rather, the one-sided slaughter. There wasn’t a single survivor, and he liked it that way.

He sneered before turning back to look at the physicians, who immediately ducked behind Elowyn’s bed when they noticed his gaze upon them.

"I need to leave this wretched place," he said, his tone low and dangerous. "Prepare her. I wish to return to Drakenmire with my wife."

"But Your Grace," Sven squeaked. "Lady Elowyn is unfit for travel at the moment. Her injuries are severe, and she needs to be on bed rest for at least―"

"Then I have no more use for you," Orion calmly — but coldly — replied. He stalked forward, and immediately, Sven’s face blanched.

"Wait, no, I mean," Sven said, stuttering, "I will make the preparations. Just let me gather the instructions and some medication that might help for the journey―"

"You two will be coming along," Orion said. "Elowyn might require treatment while on the road. Your job will be to make sure she is fine and well. Otherwise..." his eyes darkened, "she will have you two and your families as company in her afterlife."

"Yes, of course, Your Grace!" Neville and Sven squeaked in unison.

They had just stood to their feet when a commotion at the door caused everyone to turn their heads over. More of the royal cavalry had arrived to serve their heads to Orion Elsher, and Neville and Sven said a silent prayer in their hearts. These men... they were here only to die.

Some of the soldiers who arrived seemed to understand that the moment they entered the infirmary― or what was left of it. A side of the building was missing, everything was dyed red, and the putrid, coppery smell of blood lingered in the air just like a ghastly battlefield after a fierce war.

"Oh?" Orion said with a nonchalant gaze. His ear studs, which had dimmed for a second when he spoke with the physicians, lit up once more. "It seems like King Godwin wishes to reduce the size of his population. He has sent more men to die. Who am I but his humble servant, here to fulfill his wishes?"
