Chapter 133: The Purple She Loved
Chapter 133: The Purple She Loved
Orion entered the infirmary, his eyes darting around the room to search for Soleia. Her sisters had told him she was headed for the infirmary to get her wounds checked out, and they had also told him in no uncertain terms that he should be sorry for letting Soleia run into the forest unchecked, even though it was impossible for him to prevent. But he only bit his tongue and nodded, knowing that their words came from a place of concern.
Once again, Ralph was her savior. It seemed that no matter how hard he tried to help her, he was always falling short. Now, all he could do was try to catch up.
However, it seemed that Soleia was nowhere to be found. The infirmary was empty, save for one woman― the very same woman he did not want to see. Elowyn was resting on the bed, her back supported by several very fluffy pillows. She seemed to be asleep, so Orion gladly began to make his way out, thankful that he didn’t need to talk to her.
As if she had detected his presence, Elowyn opened her eyes. Her face erupted into a beautiful smile as she caught sight of him, and Orion cursed himself for not moving fast enough.
"Orion, my dearest, where are you going?"
"Out," Orion said flatly. "I’m looking for Soleia."
"Oh..." Elowyn’s face fell, but she put on a brave expression. Her eyes watered with unshed tears. "Please don’t make trouble for Princess Soleia. I’m sure she didn’t mean to cause me to fall."
"What?" Orion frowned. "What fall are you talking about?" Elowyn didn’t look any worse for wear, unlike Soleia. Ralph had helpfully informed him that Soleia had sustained bruises on her arms and legs, and was apparently on the verge of exhaustion.
Speaking of Soleia, he had to look for her. He shouldn’t be wasting time here. But just as he was about to go, Elowyn cried out.
"She nearly caused us to lose our baby! Orion... are you not the slightest bit upset about it?" Elowyn asked. Of course she saw the nonchalant expression in Orion’s eyes when she mentioned the fall. She had to highlight the severity of the issue to draw him back to her side!
Orion hummed, only because he couldn’t find the words to reply. He highly doubted Soleia would have pushed her on purpose. But no matter what, it was his child, so he paid slightly more attention.
"But you didn’t lose the child," Orion pointed out. "You seem perfectly healthy now."
"It was only because of Princess Nessa’s prompt action that we avoided such a tragedy!" Elowyn’s lower lip trembled, as though she had suffered a grave injustice. A hand reached out to stroke her swelling belly. "The physicians say it was very lucky that I did not lose the child. They told me I must remain calm, for another upset could cause me to miscarry."
"Then you should remain calm," Orion said, not seeing the issue. The window behind Elowyn was looking all the more attractive by the second. Since it was only three floors tall, he would probably live. He had jumped from higher. "I will leave you to rest. Goodbye."
"Orion Elsher, stop right there!" Elowyn screamed out loud enough for her voice to reverberate through the empty infirmary. "Your behavior is upsetting me!"
Orion paused and turned back to stare at her, an exasperated expression on his face. "So wouldn’t me leaving be a good thing?"
"Could you spare me the slightest bit of care and concern? Is it too much to ask for you to spend time with me?" Elowyn screamed out.
She stood up so quickly that Orion instinctively reached out to steady her, for she swayed dangerously on her feet.
"I never see you anymore, and even if you don’t care about me, you should care for our child at the very least! If you don’t want this baby, let me know!" She struggled to free herself from his hold, making a valiant attempt to reach the window. "I will fling myself out the window right now! My life is worth nothing―"
Then, Elowyn bowed over, clutching her stomach in pain.
Orion’s eyes widened in shock, and he immediately came closer to support Elowyn, carrying her back to the bed. Her fingers dug into his arm, her nails leaving scratch marks. Her other hand reached into her pockets, where a little crystal was lying in wait, but of course, Orion wasn’t paying attention.
She had made sure of it.
"It... hurts..." Elowyn wheezed weakly. "Our baby..."
"I’ll get a physician for you―" Orion said, with a furrow in his eyes.
He tried to tug his arm away, but Elowyn held firm. Her other hand clutched the amethyst, and she all but slammed it against his face. Her eyes glowed a bright purple, and the crystal resonated with her. Orion’s cerulean orbs were once again glazed over with a purple haze that Elowyn loved.
"No need, darling," Elowyn said, her voice turning simpering sweet. "All I need is you by my side. Don’t you think so?"
Orion paused and slowly nodded his head. Elowyn smiled like a cat that caught the canary, and she reached out her other hand to stroke the side of Orion’s face. She had missed his unwavering devotion.
"Of course, this also means that you’ll have to spend less time with Princess Soleia," Elowyn said.
Orion nodded obediently, but there was a downturn of his lips that Elowyn did not like. She sighed.
"I’m not unreasonable, Orion. You can still chat with her, but make sure to keep your distance. Don’t let her know you’re back in love with me," Elowyn said, smiling wickedly as the gears in her head began to turn. "Treat her like you’ve always done."
Orion blinked slowly, tilting his head in confusion. How cute, Elowyn thought as she patted his cheek. He was like a dumb little puppy, and she couldn’t wait for him to humiliate Soleia at her own wedding.
"You will listen to me, yes? For our baby?"
Orion nodded again, and Elowyn hugged him tight. He returned her embrace and pressed kisses to her hair, ignorant of the victorious smirk that painted Elowyn’s face.
Princess Soleia would not know what hit her.

Princess Nessa stared at the embracing couple with her mouth open. She had been watching the couple in secret from behind a pillar, wanting to discern for herself the truth of their relationship. Her eyebrows had furrowed when she watched Orion try all ways and means to leave the room.
That didn’t seem like a man in love at all.
Nessa would have left, but then Elowyn started screaming in distress. She wanted to storm into the room to help, but then... there was a purple glow. Nessa’s pupils burned from its brightness, and after she blinked, Duke Elsher’s behavior completely changed.
Nessa staggered away, her mind reeling with shock.
