The Hero's Forsaken Princess
Chapter 97: A Serious Conversation

Chapter 97: A Serious Conversation

After forming the Assassination Team, Alaric invited his comrades to have dinner at the manor’s dining hall. Princess Eve cooked food for them.

The members of the 5th Battalion finally met Princess Eve face to face. They couldn’t hide the admiration in their eyes when Alaric introduced her to everyone.

"Hmm. I guess our general is smitten by Princess Eve’s beauty. No wonder he didn’t want to get separated from her anymore," one knight whispered to his comrade.

"Randolf’s group is so lucky to stay in the manor. They are assigned to guard Princess Eve. I didn’t expect that Princess Eve would be more beautiful than Princess Thalia."

"Oh, I also heard from Randolf’s group that Princess Eve is so kind and very humble. She is even planning to visit the slum one of these days."

"Stop talking. We should always support General Alaric and Princess Eve. Let’s hope the mission will go well."

The knights continued whispering with each other as the servants served the food on the table.

Several knights gave Alaric a teasing smile. While everyone was busy conversing, Alaric decided to introduce Sera’s real identity to Eve.

Eve was surprised to see Sera wearing armor.

"Eve, I haven’t told you yet. Sera is my knight commander."

Eve gasped, eyeing Alaric in disbelief. ’So this is Commander Sera whom Randolf’s group were talking about.’

She pouted her lips and narrowed her eyes on Alaric. She gently hit his shoulder.

"You sly man. Why did you let your commander act as my female servant? How could you do that to her?" she reprimanded Alaric in front of everyone.

Everyone fell silent as they watched the married couple. Even Sera didn’t know what to say at that moment.

Eve approached Sera and bowed her head as she apologized. "Sera, please forgive my husband for giving you such a ridiculous command."

Alaric scratched the back of his head, trying to conceal his embarrassment.

"I didn’t mean to offend Sera and deceive you. I just want you to get close to her after losing Annie. I thought you needed a friend that’s why I asked her to become your female servant while I was not around," Alaric whispered to Eve, explaining his side.

Eve was taken aback upon hearing that. Deep inside, she appreciated Alaric’s motive.

"Alright. I forgive you," she promptly said, smiling at him. Her unhappiness disappeared almost instantly.

Then Eve glanced at Sera, grabbing her hand. ’If she is not Alaric’s first love, I wonder who his first love is. Sera and Alaric are childhood friends, does she know his first love?’

The three of them were still talking when Caleb suddenly approached Alaric. He leaned in and whispered something.

"General, the Black Hunter is here. I escorted him to the drawing room."

Upon hearing that, Alaric simply glanced at Eve before he excused himself. He wanted to talk to Gideon alone.

"Enjoy your meal. I have to go somewhere," Alaric informed everyone.

Eve decided to stay in the dining area to talk with Sera. She was the only female member of the 5th Battalion. On the other hand, Caleb followed Alaric behind.

"After they are done eating, you can pull out your team to capture the bandits," Alaric instructed Caleb.

"I got it. I’ll make some preparations now," Caleb responded.

Caleb was about to leave when Alaric spoke again, giving him one last instruction. "Let the members of the Assassination Team join you in capturing those bandits. We need to test their skills tonight."

"Haha! I like that idea. I’ll inform them right away." Caleb immediately left Alaric, heading back to the dining hall.

Meanwhile, Alaric reached the drawing room where Gideon was waiting for him. He took a deep sigh before pushing the door open. Upon entering, he met Gideon’s gaze. The Black Hunter was leisurely sitting on the couch while drinking his tea.

Gideon stood up to greet Alaric. He didn’t want to act rude to the host who invited him.

"Sit down," Alaric said, gesturing for Gideon to settle down as he sat down on the chair opposite him.

"Where is Princess Eve?" Gideon immediately asked him, his gaze fixed on the door, waiting for Eve to show up.

Alaric cocked his eyebrow, looking daggers at Gideon. ’He is dying to see my wife. Is she the reason why he agreed to come here tonight?’

"My wife is in the dining hall. You will see her later. For now, I want to talk to you alone." Alaric tried his best to suppress his jealousy toward this man. There was something important he wanted to discuss with this man.

Gideon just shrugged his shoulders. He took a sip of his tea as he waited for Alaric to say his agenda.

"First of all, I would like to apologize for treating you rudely even though you were the one who saved my wife from the bandits." Alaric bowed his head as he apologized to Gideon sincerely.

Gideon almost spat out the tea in his mouth when Alaric suddenly humbled himself before him. He hadn’t expected Alaric to apologize after what had happened. He had always thought this young general was too prideful.

He suddenly felt awkward, scratching his face. "Uhm, General Stormholt, you didn’t have to do this. Your knight commander had already apologized to me. Besides, Caleb returned the weapons they confiscated from me."

Alaric raised his head to meet Gideon’s gaze. "No. I want to take responsibility for that. Caleb and my knight just followed my command."

"I’m also here to express my gratitude for saving my wife and for helping her out when I was not around. Honestly, I’m jealous of you. You are always there by her side when she needs someone. It’s something I failed to do as her husband." Alaric was surprisingly vocal about his feelings. He didn’t deny the fact that he was jealous of Gideon.

"You’ve been her support ever since Annie died. My wife relied on you so much." Alaric smiled bitterly after saying those words.

Gideon was at a loss for words. If the young general had suddenly challenged him to a duel, he would have gladly accepted. However, having this kind of conversation with him felt awkward and made him a bit uncomfortable. He wasn’t used to this type of interaction with Alaric.

"I’ll be frank with you, Gideon. Why are you doing this? Perhaps... do you have feelings for my wife?"
