The Hero's Forsaken Princess -
Chapter 57: Agenda and Goal
Chapter 57: Agenda and Goal
Prince Cassian was clueless that the delay in Alaric’s arrival was mainly caused by his own sister, Thalia. She deliberately tried to prolong their journey because she wanted to spend more time with Alaric.
However, her plan failed since Alaric became more distant toward her, avoiding her.
"We have kept you waiting for so long, Your Highness. So now, I would suggest departing immediately. King Solomon and Queen Amara have prepared a grand banquet for your arrival." Alaric didn’t hesitate to express his thoughts.
His aim was to shorten the days of their journey going back to the palace. He didn’t want to admit it but he had been missing his wife, Eve. He wanted to see her soon.
Meanwhile, oblivious to Alaric’s hidden motive, Prince Cassian didn’t hesitate to agree. Besides, he couldn’t wait to visit the castle, wondering if he would meet the woman in Sylvana’s vision.
"Avan, inform the knights. Tell them to prepare to leave right away," Prince Cassian ordered the captain of the royal guards.
"I shall inform them, Your Highness!" Avan immediately took his leave.
"Brother, can we talk?" Thalia asked him expectantly.
Prince Cassian just waved his hand, motioning for her to enter his carriage.
As Thalia stepped into the carriage, Alaric left to command his knights. They would be preparing to leave and escort Crown Prince Cassian and his royal guards.
"Brother, please don’t be so rude to Alaric. He will become your future brother-in-law," Thalia said in her pleading tone.
Prince Cassian arched his eyebrow. "Our parents haven’t approved it yet. Why are you so obsessed with him? I heard he just came from a commoner family. Why don’t you find a prince from another kingdom? It will also strengthen our kingdom."
Thalia stubbornly shook her head. "No! I only want him. I don’t care about his ordinary background. He is gorgeous and a strong warrior."
"I saw him fight! Brother, can’t you see? He will become a precious asset to us. He is good at combat and war strategy! With his presence, we can strengthen our kingdom’s military power!" Thalia continued to convince Prince Cassian.
Sylvana, who stood outside the carriage, had overheard the conversation between Thalia and Prince Cassian.
’That’s right. Instead of eliminating him, it’s better if Alaric will serve under Prince Cassian. A tyrant ruler and a war god general! They will be unbeatable!’ Sylvana’s eyes lit up when she thought about the possible collaboration between the young general and the Crown Prince.
Without hesitation, Sylvana spoke up, interrupting Thalia and Prince Cassian.
"I agree with Her Highness. Crown Prince, listen to her. Support her marriage with him. You should make that young general serve you for the benefit of Kingdom Eldara."
Thalia was surprised by Sylvana’s remarks. Suddenly, her irritation toward her disappeared. Sylvana was the Seer who had good foresight.
Her words would help her convince her brother. Prince Cassian might listen and reconsider his decision because of the Seer’s opinion.
On the other hand, Prince Cassian’s face turned serious. Since Sylvana had spoken up, he was certain that she saw something– a vision about Alaric. Otherwise, she would have no reason to butt into their sibling’s conversation.
"Thalia, leave us! I’ll have a word with Sylvana!" Prince Cassian dismissed Thalia in his stern cold voice.
With no other choice, Thalia left the two. Soon, she was invited by Chancellor Ingrin to his carriage. Chancellor Ingrin also accompanied Prince Cassian on this journey as per King Constantine’s command.
Meanwhile, inside the crown prince’s carriage, Cassian gazed at Sylvana intently, his arms crossed over his chest.
"Tell me. What have you seen in your vision regarding Alaric Stormholt?" he asked her with intrigue.
"Your Highness... that young general resembles the war god. If you have him, he will lead your army to thousands of victories! For your dream to come true, make him serve you!" Sylvana expressed her thoughts.
"He will be a great ally, but a dangerous foe. If you can’t control him, then it’s best for you to eliminate him," she added.
After hearing that, Prince Cassian burst into a peal of humorless laughter.
Sylvana glanced at him in confusion. She couldn’t tell what was running in Prince Cassian’s mind right now.
"Heh! I didn’t expect that you would also speak so highly of him." There was a hint of displeasure in his tone.
"Forgive me, Your Highness. I didn’t mean to offend you. I’m just telling you what I’ve seen. He surprisingly has good fortunewhen it comes to battle and war."
This time Prince Cassian fell silent, shifting his gaze to the carriage window. From there, he could observe Alaric commanding his knights as they helped the royal guards retrieve the tents.
’He has great leadership,’ he thought.
"Fine. I’ll support Thalia. I will help her marry General Stormholt. And I will make him lead my army." Prince Cassian had made up his decision.
Meanwhile, at Stormholt Manor...
After two days, the Royal Physician finally paid a visit to the manor to check on Princess Eve’s condition. Her fever hadn’t gone down for days. She was still burning up.
Gideon had stayed in the manor, waiting for the Royal Physician’s arrival. He was pissed off for the delay of his visit.
But Gideon had no choice. The Royal Physician had been busy in the palace. Queen Amara didn’t allow him to leave right away even after getting the urgent message from Stormholt Manor.
"Doctor Harrinford, can I have a private moment with you? I’m Professor Deon, Eve’s teacher." Gideon approached the Royal Physician after he was done treating Princess Eve.
The old man didn’t refuse his request. The two of them headed to the garden area where no one else was around.
"Tell me honestly. What is wrong with her Highness? Her fever hasn’t gone down for two days now." Gideon asked in a serious tone.
"Don’t worry about Her Highness’s condition. Her body will recover naturally. She just needs enough rest. Did she encounter something frightening lately?" Dr. Harrinford asked him as well.
"Y-Yes," Gideon replied reluctantly.
The royal physician took a deep sigh. "I knew it. Something might have triggered her. This is a natural reaction of her body to that experience. She will get better soon."
Gideon was still not at ease. Another thing was troubling his mind right now.
"Doctor, forgive me for raising this question. But has it ever occurred when Princess Eve had lost her mind? I mean... as if she suddenly acted like a different person who couldn’t recognize people she knew?"
A deep crease appeared on his aged face upon hearing Gideon’s question. A glint flashed in his eyes as if he was both frightened and worried.
"D-Did she act strangely again? As if... she is a different person..." Dr. Harrinford asked Gideon anxiously.
’I knew it. The Royal Physician must have known something about Eve’s rare behavior.’
"Yes, Doctor! Something like that happened a few days ago. She didn’t recognize me. And–" Gideon hadn’t finished his words yet when the royal physician spoke up.
"Did she attack you violently?" he asked him expectantly.
"Yes!" Gideon promptly responded. "What happened to her? Why did she act like that?"
The royal physician immediately grabbed Gideon by his collar. "Did you make her drink wine or any kind of liquor a few hours before she acted out? You were courting death if you did!" He exclaimed, reprimanding him.
Gideon nodded as he looked at him in confusion. ’What does he mean by that? Yes... she drank wine. But it’s not me. She’s the one who requested it from Gavin.’
"Don’t you ever let her drink wine and any liquor ever again! Understand?!"
