The Hero's Forsaken Princess -
Chapter 50: Sneaking Out
Chapter 50: Sneaking Out
Eve hated how twisted Gavin could be. She was determined not to let him have his way on her.
She crushed the Moonshade Bloom petals into tiny paste while thinking about how to destroy Gavin.
Checking the book of herbs left by her mother, she collected three ingredients to create a serum that would help her accomplish her plan against Gavin.
Facing the cauldron filled with spring water, Eve boiled Nightveil Root and Dreamleaf Herb.
"Your Highness, what are you preparing?" Sera approached her from behind, staring at her with intrigue.
Eve smiled at Sera awkwardly before mixing the three ingredients. After that, she picked up her quill pen and pad.
[ I’m exhausted and parts of my body are aching from the Archery Training so I decided to make a pain-relieving serum so that I can sleep comfortably tonight. ]
"You should have told me that earlier, I could buy you the medicine you need. Your Highness, please understand. It’s my duty to take care of your needs," Sera sounded like she was lecturing Eve.
[ Oh. I’m fine, Sera. I don’t want to hassle you. You’ve been busy with the other household chores. Don’t worry, if I feel sick I won’t hesitate to inform you. ]
Sera felt annoyed since Eve never commanded her. She tends to do things on her own. This was not the thing she had expected.
As much as possible, Sera wanted to find a reason to hate Eve. But to no avail, Eve was so kind to her and the other servants. She felt uncomfortable seeing how Eve started to win over everyone... including her.
’It’s been a week that we were together. When will she show her true colors?’ Sera mused to herself.
Eve politely dismissed Sera as she waited for her serum to stabilize and cook inside the cauldron. Her eyes sparkled in delight when the liquid turned dark green.
’Yes. It’s almost done.’ She stirred it several times until the mixture thickened.
She waited for half an hour until the serum cooled down. After that, she stored the serum in small glass vials.
’I’m ready!’ Eve clapped in excitement. She wondered how potent her serum was. She hadn’t tried it yet. Gavin was her guinea pig for the first serum she had created.
After cleaning up the mess in the kitchen, Eve headed back to her chamber.
"Sigh. Now, All I need is to sneak out of the manor without getting caught." She murmured to herself as she changed her clothes.
To camouflage in the dark, Eve chose a black dress matched with a cloak. She had to meet Gavin at the Inn at midnight. She hoped Sera and the other servants were already sleeping by that time.
"I have to deal with the roving knights and the one stationed at the entrance gate," Eve mumbled, talking to herself. She sat down on the edge of her bed and grabbed the glass vials.
She glanced at the wooden clock hung on her wall. "Two hours before midnight. I wonder if Gideon is already there. Is he done setting everything?"
Eve was thrilled and nervous. Tonight was her first step toward revenge, and Gavin Ravenmoor was her first target.
She was lost in her thoughts when Silvester suddenly flew towards her. He came from the outside balcony.
"Princess! Princess!"
"Oh. Silvester. You are back!" Eve extended her right hand, letting Silvester land on her palm.
Eve’s eye fell on Silvester’s leg and saw the wooden capsule containing Gideon’s message. She quickly picked it up and read the message.
[ Princess, the preparation is done. Gavin is already here. In half an hour, I’ll come and fetch you outside the entrance gate. Wishing you luck in sneaking out. If you need my help, just send me a message. ]
Her lips curled up after reading Gideon’s message. "My master is truly dependable. But this time I want to do it alone. I can’t rely on him always."
To erase the evidence, Eve burned the piece of cloth where Gavin’s message was written.
"Princess! Two Knights in the garden area." Silvester spoke again, revealing the current locations of the guards so that she could avoid bumping into them once she sneaked out of the manor.
Eve nodded, petting Silvester’s head.
"Two Knights in the East."
"Three Knights in the entrance gate."
"Thanks, Silvester. I’ll keep that in mind." She couldn’t help but giggle. Even the parrot was a great help to her.
"I’ll bring you your favorite snacks once I return," Eve promised, compensating the parrot for his assistance.
"Hahaha! Silvester is happy. Thanks, Princess." Silvester laughed giddily.
"Can you help me one more time?" Eve asked the parrot expectantly.
Silvester nodded his head.
"I want you to help me distract the guards in the main gate. Make them leave their spot for thirty seconds. That is enough for me to sneak out. Can you do that?"
"Yes, Princess! I can! I can!" Silvester responded repeatedly.
"Shall we go?" Eve uttered, her eyes gleaming with excitement.
Getting her cue, Silvester flew out through the window of her chamber. Eve followed him, not using the stairs. Instead, she snuck out of her room through the window, using the same method she had used when she escaped from the Lotus Pavilion to see her husband during his Title Conferral Ceremony.
Eve climbed down smoothly. Her physical training helped her body move swiftly in this situation. She could feel the improvement in her body coordination.
Reaching the ground, Eve stayed still, cautiously observing her surroundings. The manor was very quiet, an indication that the servants were all sound asleep.
She moved quietly in the dark, making her way toward the main gate. Hiding for several minutes, she waited as Silvester distracted the three knights guarding the entrance. The parrot attacked them, pecking at their heads simultaneously.
"Catch the parrot! But don’t hurt him. It’s Princess Eve’s pet!"
"Damn you! What’s wrong with this bird?! General Alaric was right! This parrot is crazily violent!"
"Ugly Knights! Ugly Knights! Come and get me."
"You morons! Stupid Knights!" Silvester’s sharp tongue was truly effective in provoking the three knights.
Offended by the parrot’s insulting words, the three knights began chasing after Silvester, thus temporarily abandoning their post.
’Please forgive me. I have to do this. I promise I will compensate everyone tomorrow. I’ll cook food for everyone.’ Eve thought to herself, feeling sorry for the knights getting attacked by Silvester.
Grabbing the chance, Eve hastily snuck out of the entrance gate. After a few minutes, she met Gideon behind the big tree. He brought a horse.
"Shall we go, Princess?" Gideon extended his right hand.
Eve nodded with a smile before accepting his hand. He pulled her up, making her sit in front of him as they rode the horse together.
"Hmm. You are so lucky, Eve. I’ll teach you horseback riding tonight." Gideon softly uttered behind her ear. "You will also need this skill during the Royal Hunt," he added.
Eve let out a soft giggle. "Master, you are teaching me a lot of things. I will properly compensate you in the future."
Gideon chuckled huskily, securing Eve as he tapped the horse, signaling it to move forward.
Eve and Gideon were clueless that someone was watching them in the shadows.
’Princess Eve... she can speak well. She is not mute!’
