The Hero's Forsaken Princess -
Chapter 44: Saving A Knight
Chapter 44: Saving A Knight
As part of her morning routine, Eve woke up early, leaving her chamber. She headed to the garden and smelled the fresh morning dew.
’A new day... a new start!’ She thought to herself, her lips curling up into a faint smile.
She didn’t let last night’s incident bother her today. She chose to keep herself busy and forget.
She grabbed a pail and drew water from the deep well. She started watering the flowers in the garden. Eve was used to doing the servant’s duties since she was treated by Queen Amara as her own personal slave.
"Oh my God. Is that Princess Eve!" The servant who had just woken up caught a glimpse of Eve’s figure through her window. She immediately shook her fellow servant who was still sleeping beside her.
The other female servant rose from her bed, rubbing her eyes as she glanced through the open window. Her jaws dropped and her eyes widened in shock upon recognizing Eve.
"What is she doing out there?! OMG! She is watering the plant by herself! She is not supposed to do that!" The servants panicked.
Eve was now the Lady of this manor, assigned to manage the Stormholt household. But managing the household didn’t mean she should perform the servant’s duties herself. She must command them and instruct them what to do.
"We should stop her! Lord Alaric might reprimand us once he learns about this!"
The two servants dashed out of their quarters, heading to the garden to stop Eve.
"Your Highness! Your Highness!"
"Princess Eve!"
They called out to her in their anxious voices. Eve turned to look at them, blinking in confusion.
’What’s wrong? Why are they running to me?’ Eve paused for a moment, her hand still holding the pail of water.
The servants were already panting when they reached her spot. One of them snatched the pail from her hand.
"Your Highness, you will get us in trouble!"
"This is our job! You should go back inside the manor!"
They cried out in unison. What if the royal family learned that they were not treating and serving her well in the Stormholt Manor? It might cost them their lives!
However, Eve didn’t mean any harm. She was already accustomed to this kind of work. She could even lift two pails at the same time.
She was not literally weak; her body was just frail because of the frequent assault and physical abuse from the hands of the Queen and her royal siblings.
[ Don’t worry about me. I’m fine. I want to plant some medicinal herbs. Can you please help me? ]
Setting a medicinal garden in Stormholt Manor, Eve desired to tend the warriors’ wounds whenever they would get injured. She thought about Alaric and his knights. No one knew that Eve had a broad knowledge of medicine.
While trapped in Lotus Pavilion, she read a lot of medicinal books. Her mother used them when she first taught her to read. Since then, she has started to study and self-learn. Every time the royal physician would treat her, she observed him thoroughly to learn.
Meanwhile, the two servants exchanged glances, amazed by the princess’s behavior. Despite her royal status, Eve remained humble, treating them as her equals. They expected Eve to order them around, but she had demanded none.
The female servants had started to see her in a different light. ’Are we wrong to assume that Princess Eve is the same as the other nobles— Snobbish and arrogant, disdainful of the poor.’
With her convincing power, the servants were compelled to cooperate with her. And just like that, she befriended the two female servants– Claire and Marie.
Sera expected Eve to sulk in her room the whole day to avoid the knights. They were so rude to her last night. But to her surprise, Eve comfortably bonded with the female servants in the garden.
"What the hell are you doing?" Sera exclaimed, her sharp gaze directed at the two servants.
The two servants froze, still holding the rake and garden fork while Eve was planting an herb, soil and mud were all over her clothes and face.
"Have you forgotten that Her Highness can easily get sick? Lord Alaric leaves her in our care because he is worried about her health! What if she catches a cold because of this!" Sera reprimanded the two servants.
Eve immediately stood up, shaking her head and waving her hands. Her eyes were asking Sera not to scold Claire and Marie. She shouldn’t blame them. It was she who insisted on doing this.
Before Eve could defend the two female servants, a running knight approached them.
"Sera! We need help! Randolf got bitten by the snake! What should we do? He collapsed, already vomiting!"
They were stunned upon hearing that, except Eve. Without wasting her time, Eve ran in the direction where she saw a group of warriors panicking as they were worried about their comrade’s safety.
Randolf was lying on the ground. Eve shoved the other knights aside as she knelt beside him, urgently checking the bite mark on his wrist. The knights were surprised by Eve’s sudden interference.
One knight tried to push Eve, thinking she was hindering them from carrying Randolf. "Princess! What are you doing? Leave him–"
The knight didn’t finish his words when Eve immediately pulled out his sword. He thought Eve was going to stab him. Her expression looked frightening at that certain moment, intimidating the knight.
’They should not move him. A movement spreads the venom faster.’ Eve thought to herself.
The other knights were also dumbfounded, exchanging anxious glances with one another.
’Has she gone mad?’
’She overheard our conversation last night.’
’Is she going to kill us?’
The atmosphere became more tense. But Eve focused on the patient before her. She secured Randolf’s body. Using the sword she snatched from the knight, Eve made incisions around the bite mark, trying to drain the venom, stopping it from spreading further.
Without hesitation, Eve brought her lips to the bite mark as she began to suck out the venom from the wound.
Everyone was at a loss for words as they witnessed the unfolding scene. They realized that Princess Eve was trying to save Randolf.
’What the hell is she doing!? Sucking the venom with her own mouth! Is she crazy?! She can be poisoned as well!’ Sera thought, eyeing Eve in disbelief.
