The Hero's Forsaken Princess -
Chapter 29: Confrontation
Chapter 29: Confrontation
In the Royal Armory, Gavin, the Commander of Master of Arms, was doing some maintenance check and inventory of various weapons, armors, and shields when suddenly a strong arm dragged him from behind, shoving his body against the wall.
"Fuck!" Gavin grunted when his back hit the wall so hard.
Things happened so fast that he failed to react. The next thing he knew, he was pinned on the wall, a muscular elbow pressing on his neck to restrain his movement. Gavin was completely immobilized.
His eyes widened in shock when he recognized the sneaky attacker. It was Alaric!
"General Alaric, what do you think you are doing?" Gavin questioned him as he struggled against his strong grip.
"I have a few questions for you, Commander Gavin," Alaric said in his stern cold voice.
Gavin cussed under his breath. He couldn’t deny the fact that Alaric was a very strong warrior.
"You can ask me questions without getting physical, General Alaric. Don’t you dare abuse your power! I’m still the Commander of the Master of Arms. And I’m also your brother-in-law, the husband of the second princess. Be mindful of your status. Show me some respect!" Gavin didn’t back down, not allowing Alaric to intimidate him with his forceful actions.
Alaric narrowed his eyes on Gavin. He wasn’t supposed to show his violent side. However, his jealousy toward this guy fueled his anger. His desire to beat Gavin was overwhelming.
Gavin simply peered at his surroundings, hoping that some royal guards would pass by the royal armory so that he could ask them for help.
He didn’t want to admit it but he was at a great disadvantage. He couldn’t defeat Alaric in a one-on-one duel. Furthermore, he could see the murderous intent in Alaric’s seething eyes.
"You’ve been aware of Lyle Owen’s identity. He is not Eve’s lover! Why did you keep your mouth shut? Did you purposely wait for Eve to be sent to the flogging platform for her punishment?" Alaric asked Gavin through his gritted teeth.
Instead of answering him, Gavin laughed sarcastically, provoking him further. "General Alaric, is this how you express your gratitude? I’ve helped clear your wife’s name. Why are you taking out your anger on me?"
Alaric clenched his fists. And without a warning, he swung his fist, punching Gavin on his face.
Thud
A heavy impact was heard when Alaric’s fist landed on Gavin’s right cheek. The corner of his lips bled and his face got swollen instantly.
After Gavin received that direct hit, Alaric finally released him. He had just released his pent-up emotions and frustrations through that punch.
Meanwhile, Gavin glared at Alaric, spitting some blood. ’How dare you lay a hand on me, you bastard! I swear I’ll make you pay for this, Alaric Stormholt. I will have a taste of your wife!’ He swore inwardly, wiping the blood off his lips.
"Ungrateful, Bastard!" Gavin snarled at Alaric, unsheathing his sword. He couldn’t stomach this humiliation he got from Alaric. This was a great insult, hitting his pride as a man.
Alaric just stood there with an indifferent expression. His hand rested on the hilt of his sword, getting ready for a clash of blades with Gavin.
"I’m warning you, Commander Ravenmoor. Stay away from my wife." Alaric said in his commanding tone. His voice held a warning threat.
Gavin just smirked at him slyly. "Are you scared of me getting close to your wife, General Stormholt? Do you feel threatened by my presence? Or perhaps, your insecurity has gotten the better of you?" he continued, deliberately provoking Alaric. He knew he could only hurt him using his sharp tongue.
Alaric’s eyes darkened with fury as he gritted his teeth. Gavin had a knack for pushing his buttons, getting him so worked up. If only this were a battlefield, he would have already slashed Gavin’s throat, beheading him.
’Ever since I had witnessed him making out with my wife during our wedding night, I had imagined myself slitting his throat several times while I was on a battlefield. I could see his face on my opponent’s faces and kill them mercilessly.’
’Funny as it may seem but maybe this was one of my motivations and the reason why I returned victorious from the war.’ Alaric thought to himself.
"Commander Ravenmoor! Princess Aliyah summons you in her chamber!" The royal messenger’s voice snapped Alaric out of his deep thoughts.
Meanwhile, Gavin heaved a sigh of relief when the royal messenger arrived, disrupting his confrontation with Alaric. He immediately sheathed his swords as he composed himself, masking the heavy tension between Alaric and him.
"Thank you for dropping by, General Stormholt. See you in a while," Gavin said tauntingly.
But before he left, Gavin approached Alaric, whispering something to him. "Why don’t you direct your anger to the person who tried to frame your wife? Or just divorce Eve and marry the princess of Kingdom Eldara," He smirked at Alaric meaningfully before walking away to follow the royal messenger.
Alaric just watched Gavin’s retreating figure, clenching his fist tightly. One punch was not enough to quell his anger.
"General!" Caleb called out his young general. He entered the royal armory after seeing Gavin leave together with the royal messenger.
"What is Lyle Owen’s current situation?" Alaric asked his Knight Commander in a serious tone. He dispatched Caleb to secretly monitor Lyle Owen after he was brought back to the prison fortress.
"King Solomon ordered his royal guards to isolate Lyle Owen, transferring him to the underground prison," Caleb reported. "Don’t worry. He is still alive. Do you plan to rescue him as part of your deal?"
Alaric nodded. "Yes, I won’t break my promise. But let him suffer for a while. He is at fault for framing my wife." A cold glint flashed through his eyes after saying those words.
"What did you find out?" Alaric asked Caleb expectantly.
Caleb darted his gaze on their surroundings, making sure that no one was around. After that, he moved closer to Alaric and whispered, "General, The person who bribed Lyle Owen to lie and frame Princess Eve is the queen."
