Chapter 177: Personal Vendetta
Chapter 177: Personal Vendetta
"Will it work, Your Highness?" Caleb asked Eve.
She nodded frantically. "Yes. Let’s see. It’s time to test my new potion."
Gideon could only scratch the back of his head. He knew that the effect of Eve’s potions was a little bit scary.
"Believe in her. I witnessed the output of one of her potions," he said, reassuring them.
Sera and Caleb exchanged glances with one another.
"Alright. I hope we can get the answer that we seek." Sera said before opening the door.
Randolf brought General Ravenmoor inside the room. They tied him to his chair.
"Wake him up," Sera said, commanding Randolf.
Randolf splashed a bucket of water onto General Ravenmoor’s face. The general opened his eyes and gasped at the coldness of the water.
General Ravenmoor frowned as soon as he recognized Caleb and Sera.
"Where am I? Why am I here?"
"General Ravenmoor. You are in our barracks," Caleb responded.
"What the hell are you doing? Release me! Had you gone mad? Why are you doing this to me?"
General Ravenmoor yelled at them while he struggled to break free.
No one answered him. Gideon approached him from behind and held his head. He pinched his jaw and tilted his head upward, forcing him to part his lips. While he was holding him tightly, Eve poured the potion into his mouth.
General Ravenmoor had no choice but to gulp the liquid that entered his mouth. He even coughed and choked. Fortunately, Gideon released him right away to catch on his breath.
The four of them waited for the truth serum to take effect. A few minutes later, General Ravenmoor’s vision became hazy. He stopped struggling against their grasps.
"Princess Eve, how long are we going to wait before interrogating him?" Sera asked her, feeling impatient.
Eve observed General Ravenmoor’s expression before she threw her first question. "What is your name?"
Surprisingly, General Ravenmoor obediently replied to her, announcing his real name.
"I think the serum began to kick in," Eve informed Gideon, Sera, and Caleb.
"I will start questioning him now. You should observe his facial expressions whenever he talks," Eve instructed them.
"We understand, Princess," Caleb replied.
Sera and Gideon focused their attention on General Ravenmoor. It seemed like he was being hypnotized. He just blinked several times as he stared at Princess Eve.
’The last time she used her potion, someone hallucinated about the woman he desired. I wonder what General Ravenmoor is seeing right now.’ Gideon pondered to himself.
"General Ravenmoor, were you the one who leaked the information to Kingdom Zephyra about King Zaraki’s assassination plan?" Eve asked in a serious tone.
Sera, Caleb, and Gideon anticipated his response. To their surprise, General Ravenmoor nodded, not denying anything.
"Yes. It was me."
Sera and Caleb clenched their fists upon hearing that. Gideon had to stop the two from attacking General Ravenmoor.
"Why did you do that?" Eve asked him again.
"Because I want to avenge my nephew’s death. Gavin died because of Princess Eve and Alaric. They should die!" General Ravenmoor’s voice was filled with hatred and fury.
Gideon narrowed his eyes upon hearing that. Why would he blame the couple? Gavin committed suicide.
"Why are you blaming us? Who made you think that your nephew’s death was our fault?" she probed once more. She had a tiny suspicion that someone had instigated General Ravenmoor to do this revenge.
"Who else? It’s Princess Aliyah! She knew about Gavin’s unfaithfulness. Princess Aliyah caught you having an affair with my nephew. Despite this, Princess Aliyah chose to forgive him and never told the King and the Queen."
Sera, Caleb, and Gideon were taken aback when they heard that. Sera recalled what she witnessed before. But Princess Eve denied the accusation. Even Alaric was aware of what happened.
"That’s a lie!" Eve blurted out.
"No! You’re the one who lied! Even your husband found out the truth—that’s why he attacked Gavin and threatened him in the royal armory. You seduced him, but in the end, my nephew was the only one who paid the price for your crime." General Ravenmoor spat back at her, blaming her further.
"You and Alaric deserve to die!"
Smack!
Eve slapped him so hard. "You are so stupid to believe Aliyah’s lie! I don’t think Gavin committed suicide. He was murdered! And I had a suspicion that it was my sister who killed him!"
"No! Princess Aliyah will never do that. She loved Gavin so much," General Ravenmoor retorted.
Gideon shook his head while clicking his tongue. "What a clever move. Princess Aliyah was smart enough to use you as her weapon. She made you believe that Gavin’s death had something to do with Princess Eve and General Alaric. But the truth is... she’s the one who eliminated him. She had grown tired of Gavin and couldn’t forgive his unfaithfulness. Gavin was madly in love with Princess Eve—I witnessed that obsession firsthand."
Gideon supported Princess Eve’s claim. But since his hatred had already clouded General Ravenmoor’s mind, he refused to believe them.
"I understand that you won’t believe me without proof or a confession from Princess Aliyah. Don’t worry, General Ravenmoor—I can bring you to the palace. I’ll give you the answers you seek. I’ll prove my innocence and make the real culprit confess her crime in front of everyone," Princess Eve boldly declared. She was prepared to confront the royal family. It was time to collect some debts.
Eve had suffered enough because of Queen Amara and her royal siblings. King Solomon was no exception. She felt that he, too, deserved punishment. He had turned a blind eye to her mother’s death—something she couldn’t simply let slide.
"What are you planning to do? Are you going to betray your own family?" General Ravenmoor questioned her motive.
"I had enough! I don’t even feel that they consider me part of their family. I am going to confront them. And this time, I will also expose Aliyah’s true colors. She is a ruthless murderer!" Eve said with conviction.
Sera, Caleb, and Gideon remained silent. They didn’t know what to say. However, they could feel Princess Eve’s determination. All her life, she was treated unfairly inside the castle. She was abused and bullied. And now, she decided to strike back.
"I fully support you, Princess Eve. I know you are kind and generous. But you have to be ruthless once in a while. Don’t forgive easily. You have to teach them a lesson," Gideon said, giving her a piece of advice. He was rooting for her. He wanted her to punish those people who caused her misery.
Eve gave Gideon a grateful look. He was always there, supporting her. She felt so lucky to have him by her side.
"Caleb. Sera... there is something I want to tell you. Please listen to me and don’t get mad. Allow me to explain."
Caleb and Sera looked at her in puzzlement. What was she going to tell them?
"Just tell us, Your Highness. We are willing to listen." Caleb said.
But before she could continue, Gideon struck General Ravenmoor on the back of the neck, knocking him unconscious. He called on Randolf, asking him to bring General Ravenmoor out of the room.
When Ravenmoor was taken out of the room, Eve continued her conversation with Caleb and Sera.
"Gideon and I are here because of the mission sent to me by King Zaraki. I have no choice but to obey him because Alaric became his hostage."
"What kind of mission, Princess?" Sera asked her expectantly.
"Conquering Kingdom Averion," she replied truthfully.
Caleb and Sera were dumbfounded upon hearing that. They didn’t know how they would react.
"But don’t worry. I won’t hurt the civilians and your battalion. I am here to inform you so that you and the other members of the 5th Battalion will not get involved in this battle," Princess Eve added.
"Is this the reason you ordered me to gather all the members of the 5th Battalion and come here to the slum area?" Caleb was beginning to understand why Eve had given him such a command.
Eve nodded in response.
"But Princess Eve, we can’t do that! It’s our duty to protect Kingdom Averion from the invaders. We have to fight as a warriors!" Sera insisted.
Eve took a deep sigh. "I’m not here to destroy the Kingdom of Averion. I came to dethrone Queen Amara and King Solomon. This is about revenge—my personal vendetta. It’s not a war between two kingdoms. King Zaraki’s command is merely my excuse."
Sera and Caleb were at a loss for words.
Eve continued to explain her side. "I am a princess of both kingdoms—Averion and Zephyra. My biological mother was not a servant; she came from a royal lineage. But Queen Amara treated her like a slave and killed her out of jealousy. I witnessed her stabbing my mother’s body several times. I will do everything in my power to avenge her death. So please... don’t get involved in this fight. This is my battle alone. Please, listen to my request..."
After listening to her story, Caleb and Sera could no longer refuse her. They chose to support her because, unlike the royal family, Princess Eve was the only one who had shown genuine concern for the people of the slums and the members of the 5th Battalion.
"We understand, Princess Eve. Rest assured that we will not intervene with your plan," Caleb said, reassuring her.
Princess Eve smiled faintly. "Thank you, Caleb, and Sera. I promise... once I’m done with my revenge, I will bring back Alaric here."
