The Hero's Forsaken Princess
Chapter 150: Run and Escape

Chapter 150: Run and Escape

Alaric joined Dillon in fighting the royal knights of Zephyra. The clashing of swords echoed in the courtyard.

Even though they were outnumbered, Alaric was dominating the battle. Several knights were thrown to the ground.

"Catch them!" A knight shouted as another group of royal knights arrived.

Dillon and Alaric were fighting them, hoping to escape. However, more royal knights showed up, surrounding them.

"Shoot them!" Another knight yelled

"General! Be careful!" Dillon warned Alaric.

Arrows flew in their direction, targeting Alaric and Dillon. One arrow hit Dillon in his shoulder after trying to protect Alaric.

"Dillon!" Alaric called out, feeling worried.

"Don’t worry about me, General. It didn’t hit my vital spot." He reassured him.

Alaric looked around, sensing the severity of their situation. As time went by, more royal knights were showing up in the courtyard.

Dillon and Alaric continued to fight and resist. They didn’t want to be captured by the enemy’s guards.

Alaric knocked down so many knights. But the number of reserved knights was overwhelming. They couldn’t leave the courtyard as many guards blocked their path.

The sword clash continued. Alaric defeated one royal guard after another. This was a battle of stamina. The royal guards just kept coming.

"Arrows!" Knight commanded.

The flying arrows flooded again, targeting Alaric and Dillon.

Alaric stole a shield from a knight. He continued dodging and avoiding the arrows. He also protected Dillon from getting hit.

The battle continued. It’s been half an hour but the royal guards couldn’t subdue Alaric and Dillon. They had so many injured men scattered on the ground. Unconscious and bleeding knights were lying around.

"Damn! This man is formidable. How can we defeat him?" Some knights were losing their confidence. Alaric’s strength was overwhelming.

"I knew him! I’ve heard of this man. He is Alaric of Kingdom Averion! The Hero!" one knight recognized Alaric.

They became more intimidated after knowing Alaric’s identity. They were anxious while fighting him. Out of nervousness, they committed more mistakes. Alaric easily defeated them.

However, just when Alaric and Dillon thought they were winning, the Captain of the Royal Guard suddenly showed up.

"Stop! Surrender now, otherwise, I will kill this man!" Captain Beru shouted, catching Dillon and Alaric’s attention.

The two men gazed in his direction only to see Franco being held captive by two guards. Captain Beru pointed his sword at Franco’s neck.

He was immobilized. He was also bleeding. Captain Beru beat Franco to a pulp. His face was unrecognizable because of bruises and blood.

Alaric gritted his teeth upon seeing Franco’s miserable state. He had been captured by the enemy.

"General, what are we going to do now?" Dillon asked him.

"We can’t abandon our comrade. Dillon, I’ll try to negotiate with them," he whispered.

"Put down your swords and surrender!" Captain Beru repeated, giving them a warning.

It did not take long before Chancellor Gustav showed up to observe the situation.

A knight approached the chancellor, informing him about Alaric’s identity. Chancellor Gustav was surprised upon hearing it, his gaze fixed on Alaric.

"Release him!" Alaric demanded. "I’ll surrender."

Captain Beru laughed sarcastically. "You have no right to negotiate here."

Alaric narrowed his eyes. He already knew that. But he won’t give up.

A knowing smile flashed on his face. "I guess he is the captain. I can use his head to negotiate for my comrades."

In a flash, Alaric charged in Captain Beru’s direction. He moved so fast that the guards failed to stop him. Before they knew it, Alaric already grabbed Captain Beru, making him his hostage.

Chancellor Gustav didn’t expect that Alaric could easily capture Captain Beru.

"Now. Do I have the right to negotiate?" Alaric mumbled, pointing his dagger at Captain Beru’s neck. Earlier, he disposed of his sword and used his dagger to subdue Captain Beru.

The royal guards were shocked beyond belief. Captain Beru was not able to react and he became Alaric’s hostage in a flash.

"Release my comrade!" Alaric demanded, looking at Franco’s bloody appearance.

Meanwhile, Dillon moved closer to Alaric, guarding his rear side.

Alaric pressed the dagger on Captain Beru’s neck, making him bleed a little. He wanted them to know that he wouldn’t hesitate to slit his throat.

"Tell them to release my comrade. I can guarantee your safety if you do so." Alaric whispered to Beru.

"Release the prisoner!" Captain Beru gave his command.

The two guards reluctantly released Franco. Dillon immediately grabbed him, supporting him to stand.

"I’m sorry," Franco apologized in his weak voice.

"Don’t apologize..."

"Lambert is dead..." Franco said.

Dillon froze as soon as he heard that. ’No! This can’t be.’

"Don’t bother saving me. Tell General Alaric to leave. I’m going to die soon..." Franco tried to push Dillon away.

Dillon clenched his fists and firmly said, "No. We won’t abandon you!"

"Make a way for us!" Alaric commanded once again. They needed to leave the palace now while taking Captain Beru with them.

The royal guards were about to clear their path when Chancellor Gustav made his presence known to everyone.

"Stop!" His authoritative voice was heard from behind.

"Do you expect us to obey your command just because you caught one of us? You’ve killed a lot. We can’t let you leave the palace."

Captain Beru broke into sweats upon seeing Chancellor Gustav. He was not the kind of man who would negotiate with an enemy. He wouldn’t care if Beru could die. They could replace him easily.

"Captain Beru, show us your loyalty to King Zaraki. Obeying your enemy’s command is a sign of weakness. We don’t need a weak captain in our army," Chancellor Gustav said in his stern cold voice.

Dillon glanced at Alaric worriedly. It looked like their threat would no longer become effective. The Zephyra’s leader didn’t care about the lives of their comrades. They only wanted to flaunt their strengths and power. They were merciless.

"Forgive me, Chancellor Gustav. I committed a grave sin. I deserve to die," Captain Beru responded in his trembling voice.

Since he was going to die, he should fight and kill an enemy to redeem himself. Without hesitation, Captain Beru drew his sword, aiming at Dillon.

Alaric quickly reacted, slashing Beru’s wrist. If he moved late, Beru would have stabbed Dillon.

"Run now! I’ll take cover!" Alaric commanded Dillon. He was going to fight the remaining guards in order for Dillon and Franco to escape.

Dillon had no time to hesitate. He just obeyed Alaric’s command, trusting his words. He knew that his general was capable of fighting those men. If they stayed there, they would just hold him back.

Alaric picked up a sword as he continued to defend his comrades while they were making for a run. Captain Beru clashed swords with him, trying to redeem himself in front of Chancellor Gustav.

"He is a great warrior. No wonder he becomes Averion’s hero," Chancellor Gustav praised Alaric’s combat skills as he watched him fight the Captain of the royal guards while protecting his comrades.

"Let me borrow your bow," Chancellor Gustav turned to the knight who was shooting Alaric. He missed several times, not landing a hit on Alaric.

Chancellor Gustav shot an arrow, not aiming at Alaric, but targeting Dillon’s back. Alaric had seen it. Without hesitation, he used his body to block the arrow.

Chancellor Gustav smiled triumphantly. He knew it. Alaric would sacrifice himself just to protect his comrade.

"He is too kind. That will be his flaw and his ultimate weakness. How long he is going to endure getting hit by my arrows?" Chancellor Gustav said as he released another shot.

’Damn! He is targeting Dillon and Franco!’ Alaric cursed inwardly. He moved swiftly, slashing the arrow using his sword, preventing it from hitting his comrades.

Alaric was doing his best to clear a path for his comrades. They were still being chased from different directions. They finally reached the palace gate. But there were also guards standing outside.

"Fuck. We are surrounded." Alaric murmured as they stopped at the closed gate.

"No matter what you do, you can’t escape here alive," Chancellor Gustav declared, taunting Alaric.

Alaric just remained silent, trying to figure out his next moves.

"General, Franco is losing consciousness. My shoulder is getting numb as well. I’m losing too much blood. I don’t think we can survive this. You should go and escape. Don’t worry about us." Dillon said. He knew that he was also reaching his limit.

They were in a desperate and hopeless situation when suddenly they heard the sound of fireworks just outside the gate.

Alaric smirked upon seeing that signal. "I think it’s not too late for us, Dillon. Your brothers are waiting for you outside this gate. Don’t lose hope. I’ll open the gate for you."

Dillon found a new strength when his brothers were mentioned. He didn’t want to die there without seeing them for one last time.

Alaric ran toward the gate, defeating the guards before unlocking it.

"Now. This is your chance! Run Dillon!"
