Chapter 137: Coldness

"Have you seen my wife?" Alaric asked Gideon worriedly upon noticing Eve’s absence. He couldn’t find her. The carriage was empty.

"Huh? I thought she was with you?" Gideon replied, frowning deeply.

Alaric and Gideon exchanged anxious glances with one another. They just realized that Eve was gone.

"We should find her!!!" Alaric said urgently.

Gideon notified the other knights, telling them of the situation. "Let’s search the different areas! Princess Eve has gone missing!"

Everyone sprang into action as soon as they heard Gideon’s words. Alaric had already left, searching the woods. The team divided themselves to speed up the search.

"How did this happen?" Miles felt like crying, worrying about Eve’s safety.

Randolf and others were panicking. The forest nearby was more dangerous at night. Princess Eve shouldn’t roam around alone in that forest. They should find her quickly before something bad could happen to her.

"Eve! Where are you?!"

Everyone was calling her name. They hoped she could hear their scream.

"Stop fighting!" Eve’s stern voice echoed in the forest.

Both Alaric and the white fox stopped moving. Princess Eve looked furious.

"Eve," Alaric mumbled, attempting to hug her.

But at that moment, Eve suddenly stepped back, avoiding him.

Alaric couldn’t explain it. He just felt like Eve deliberately kept her distance from him. But why?

Eve turned to face the white fox and crouched down.

"May I know your name?" She asked.

’Your mother named me Aerin,’ the white fox responded in her mind.

"Aerin, I’m going back to my mother’s homeland. And this man is escorting me. You shouldn’t attack him."

The white fox glanced at Alaric. Aerin recognized him.

’My Queen, this man is the young knight who caused your mother’s death. Stay away from him. I’ll kill him for you!’

Eve fell silent for a moment. She finally recalled everything. Her mother was murdered by Queen Amara. And Aerin was right. Alaric was responsible for her death.

Clenching her fists tightly, Eve whispered to Aerin. "I’ll deal with him myself. Don’t touch him. I still need him."

Aerin couldn’t disobey their Queen.

’I understand, my Queen. I won’t touch him. But I will continue to protect you. Please let me join you in this journey. I will also escort you back to your mother’s homeland.’

"I will allow you to come with us. Now, let’s leave this forest."

As Eve conversed with the white fox, Alaric could only watch them in silence. He didn’t know why but Eve didn’t glance at him at all.

’Is she mad at me? Why is she ignoring me?’ Alaric pondered to himself.

Eve and Aerin began to walk, leaving the forest. Alaric could only follow them from behind.

’She is acting so cold toward me. But why? Did I upset him?’

"Princess Eve! You are back! I’m glad you are safe!" Randolf uttered with relief.

"Princess, please don’t leave our sides without informing us! You made us worried," Miles, the youngest knight, expressed his concern for her.

"Forgive me. I didn’t mean to make everyone worried about me. By the way, this is Aerin. She will join us." Princess Eve introduced the white fox standing next to her.

The knights surrounded them, staring at Aerin with amusement. The white fox looked majestic. It was so rare to see a white fox.

"Let’s eat. I bet everyone is hungry," Princess Eve said to them, trying to sound cheerful. However, she couldn’t bring herself to look at Alaric, especially after remembering that tragic night involving her mother’s death.

Meanwhile, Gideon silently observed Eve and Alaric. He felt something was off between the two.

Gideon approached Alaric to ask him.

"What’s wrong? Did the two of you argue?"

Alaric shook his head. "We didn’t argue. But I guess she is upset with me. I tried to attack the white fox earlier."

Gideon chuckled when he heard that. He teasingly patted Alaric’s shoulder. "Oh, man! I think you’re in trouble. Your wife looks so mad at you."

Alaric glared at Gideon sharply. "Just shut up and eat!"

The group had their meals. After dinner, Eve immediately returned to the carriage. She wanted to be alone. She still never talked to Alaric.

Alaric decided to give her time and space. Tonight, he just focused on his guarding duty. Gideon and Alaric stayed on guard as they let the other knights take their rest.

Alaric felt so uneasy with the way Eve was acting so coldly toward him. He didn’t know what was the reason for her sudden behavior.

Meanwhile, seeing Alaric’s troubled expression, Gideon sat down next to him.

"Why are you getting anxious now?" Gideon asked him with a knowing smile.

Alaric just lifted an eyebrow, not answering Gideon’s question.

"Fine. Let’s talk about something else. What is your plan? How are we going to enter Zephyra’s border?" Gideon was still curious about Alaric’s strategy of infiltrating Kingdom Zephyra.

"We have entry passes," Alaric simply said.

Gideon frowned deeply. "How did you get the entry pass? Did you forge a fake entry pass or someone from Kingdom Zephyra is helping you?"

Alaric glanced at Gideon with a mischievous smirk. Then he said, "It’s a secret. I won’t tell you. Who knows you are also a spy."

Alaric only meant to tease him but Gideon suddenly turned pale.

’This man is truly cautious of everyone. Tsk, tsk, tsk. But I still wonder how he gets those entry passes. What trick did he do? Did Averion Kingdom plant a spy in Kingdom Zephyra?’
