Chapter 128: The General’s Secret

Crown Prince Cassian was so furious after the attack. The Eldara’s Seer and the Chancellor were taken by the enemies. Until now, they didn’t know about their whereabouts.

Fortunately, they didn’t have any casualties on their sides. However, Crown Prince Cassian could tell that the attack was meant to kidnap Sylvana. Her ability was useful to a kingdom!

"Your Highness! Forgive me. It’s my fault. I failed to stop them from taking Lady Sylvana away." Avan, Captain of the royal guards, apologized, kneeling in front of him.

They didn’t expect that an enemy would ambush them. They were still in the Averion’s territory. How come those armed men were able to set an ambush?

"Your apology will not bring her back!" Crown Prince Cassian roared at him.

"You have to track them as soon as possible! Before they get out of Averion’s borders!" he commanded him.

"We will chase after them. But I can’t leave you behind. You must go back to Averion Palace. I already sent a message, asking for support. We need to secure your safety back to Kingdom Eldara!" Captain Avan wanted to make up for his mistakes. He would try to rescue Sylvana and Chancellor Igrin.

"Go and leave now! Bring your capable men! I can’t lose Sylvana. Take her back! Do you understand?" Prince Cassian’s voice was stern and cold. He couldn’t afford to lose his Seer.

Surprisingly, he didn’t expect he would get mad and at the same time, worried about Sylvana. She was a precious asset to him!

"I shall see to it, Your Highness."

Without wasting any more time, Captain Avan deployed his elite men to chase after the men who kidnapped Sylvana and Chancellor Igrin.

Meanwhile, at Averion Castle, King Solomon received a message from Captain Avan. They were requesting additional knights to escort Crown Prince Cassian’s envoy.

With that, King Solomon summoned the five generals.

"I summon you here because I need to send someone to escort Crown Prince Cassian. They were attacked by unknown enemies. The Seer and the Chancellor were taken as hostages." King Solomon informed the Five Generals about the situation.

"This incident happened in our territory, so we need to investigate further. How did our enemy infiltrate our kingdom? This is a serious matter!" King Solomon added to his speech.

The five generals listened to him attentively. It looked like someone failed to guard the borders, letting the enemy enter the kingdom’s territory.

"You are right, Your Majesty. This is a serious problem we need to deal with. If we are not cautious enough, Kingdom Zephyra will be able to infiltrate and invade our kingdom without our knowledge." General Victor Ravenmoor shared his sentiments about the pressing issue.

"Let me investigate this!" He volunteered.

"But you are still mourning. You should stay here and attend Commander Gavin’s memorial service. Let me handle this for you, my friend!" General Arvy Blackridge also expressed his willingness to investigate this incident.

General Ravenmoor glared at Alaric when Gavin’s death was mentioned. His resentment toward the youngest general was visible in his eyes.

"I agree with General Blackridge. I shall give this task to him. You can now mobilize your men. Some of them will escort Crown Prince Cassian and the other group will investigate how the enemies managed to enter our territory," King Solomon said, instructing his generals.

After settling the matter, King Solomon dismissed the five generals.

Alaric and General Artemis were left in the command hall.

"General Alaric, can I have a moment with you?"

General Artemis was the one who trained Alaric and his comrades to become a full-pledge knight. So among the four elder generals, General Artemis was the only one who was very fond of Alaric.

In fact, he was proud of his students. At the age of twenty, he became the Kingdom’s hero and a general!

"Yes, Master. Do you want to talk here or do we need to find another spot?" Alaric politely responded.

"Oh, let’s go to the capital. I’ll treat you to a meal. Then we can talk there."

General Artemis wanted to bond with Alaric. He was aware that Alaric and his team were about to leave Averion for their special mission. Deep inside, he was worried about them.

The two generals headed to their favorite tavern. They found a spot where they could talk privately while eating. The two settled down and ordered their food and drinks.

"I’ve heard a lot of things about you lately. Someone told me that you and the members of the 5th Battalion are trying to rehabilitate and reconstruct the slum area. Your good deeds are very admirable. You are the best student I had." General Artemis praised Alaric, tapping his shoulder.

"Master, we are from the slum... It was our home. We know how hard it is to live there. Now that we have the ability to help, we won’t hesitate to provide support to our fellow men living in the slum."

Alaric poured him a drink, showing his respect to the old general. General Artemis could only smile at him as he raised his tankard for a toast.

"I understand why you are suited to become our Kingdom’s hero. You are strong and brave. But the most important quality you have is your good heart. You protect and defend the poor, even though other officials often neglect them." General Artemis thought so highly of Alaric.

"Don’t flatter me too much and don’t expect too much from me, Master. I don’t want to disappoint you in the end," Alaric said before letting out a soft chuckle.

General Artemis also chuckled.

"Now, let’s talk about something else. How is your preparation? When are you leaving? Are you really going to bring Princess Eve with you?" the old general bombarded him with so many questions.

"I’ve already chosen the members and formed a perfect team for this dangerous mission. The majority of them are also your students. When it comes to my wife, I have decided to bring her. And I won’t change my mind. I don’t want to leave her behind." Alaric answered him truthfully.

General Artemis took a deep sigh when he heard his last remarks.

"There is something I need to tell you... Queen Amara is not the biological mother of Princess Eve... and her mother is from Kingdom Zephyra. "
