Chapter 101: The Royal Hunt III

The discussion about the reward for the winners of the Royal Hunt had concluded. Crown Prince Stefan and General Alaric chose King Solomon to grant their wishes as a reward while Crown Prince Cassian chose Eve.

Alaric became more motivated to win because he couldn’t allow Prince Cassian to make an inappropriate request from his wife, Eve.

"Shall we start the Royal Hunt?" King Solomon said, gathering the participants outside the tent.

The spectators chose their respective seats while King Solomon and Queen Amara took the stage. The couple sat down.

Royal servants served them. The captain of the royal guards stood by their side, guarding the royal family. The chancellors of the two kingdoms also joined them.

Alaric approached Eve, giving her a wooden whistle. "Blow this if you are in trouble. I will immediately go to you."

Eve smiled gratefully, accepting the wooden whistle. "Don’t worry. I can protect myself. Sera will be guarding me. You should be careful. The animals in your area are strong and wild. Don’t get hurt. That’s an order!"

Alaric caressed her cheeks as he nodded. "Yes, Princess. I’ll be careful. I’m going to win this... for you."

Before they got separated, Alaric planted a gentle kiss on Eve’s forehead, wishing her luck. He didn’t care if many people were watching them. This was his way of telling them that Eve was his wife.

In a brief moment, the sound of the gong resounded in the area, signifying the start of the royal hunt. The princesses were escorted to their assigned hunting ground. They were given fifty arrows each including one sword and two daggers.

Upon entering the forest, Princess Thalia and Princess Alessandra sprang into action. They were eager to win the first place. Without further ado, they searched for their prey.

Princess Alessandra made use of her archery skills. In just a few minutes, she managed to hit three rabbits and two pheasants. She hadn’t seen any deer yet. The bigger the animals, the higher the points.

"I must find a big target like deer. I’m going to hunt as many as I can. I have to win this!" Alessandra mumbled with determination.

On the other side of the forest, Princess Thalia was busy targeting the running deer. She only cared about hunting the bigger animals to get more points.

Princess Alessandra and Princess Thalia were both in the lead. If this continued, one of them might be able to win the first place.

Meanwhile, Princess Aliyah had another agenda.

"Gerard, come here!" Aliyah called her loyal knight.

"What do you need, Your Highness?" Gerard politely asked Princess Aliyah.

"Have you seen the direction where Eve is going?" Before entering the forest, Aliyah instructed Gerard to secretly observe Eve’s team.

"Yes, Your Highness. Princess Eve and her guards took the northern side of the forest. Crown Princess also went in that direction. Princess Alessandra and Princess Thalia chose the eastern part of the forest. They are probably competing now. You should start hunting too, Your Highness," Gerard responded, urging Aliyah to make some moves as well.

However, Aliyah just let out a chuckle. "I don’t intend to get first place. I have another goal. My prey is bigger than the animals here. It’s Eve!"

Gerard was rendered speechless upon hearing that. ’Is she planning to kill her own sister?’

"Don’t worry. I’m not going to kill her. I just want to give her a lesson. Because of her, my husband cheated on me. He became so obsessed with her," Princess Aliyah said through gritted teeth. She couldn’t forget how Gavin called Eve’s name affectionately as he claimed the servant’s body.

"Two generals will be roving around this area. I’m gonna need your help. Eve’s guards will also become a hindrance to my plan. I want you to help me separate Eve from them," Aliyah instructed her knight.

"I understand, Your Highness! I will do my best to help you," Gerard promptly replied.

"Good. Relay this to your comrade!" She ordered him. "I’m going to hunt some animals first before implementing my plan. Besides, we have three hours to finish this hunt."

"I shall make a move now, Your Highness. I’ll inform my comrades about your plan." After saying that, Gerard approached the other knight. He talked to him for several minutes, giving him instructions.

Princess Aliyah smiled slyly. She couldn’t wait to get her revenge against Eve. As she waited for the right time, Aliyah decided to hunt some rabbits and pheasants. To save her image, she didn’t want to be in last place after the hunt.

In the northern part of the forest, Eve just took her time enjoying the scenery. The large trees were giving them shade, protecting them from the heat of the sun.

"Your Highness, we’ve been walking around the forest for several minutes now. Don’t you have any plan to catch your targets?" Sera asked her while following her behind.

"If you don’t catch anything, you’ll be embarrassed later," Sera reminded Eve.

She was annoyed by Eve’s lack of motivation to hunt. If she were in Eve’s place, she would have already hit several animals. She was dying to snatch her bow and arrow.

However, Eve just smiled at her, scratching her face. "I’m sorry, Sera. I can’t do it. I don’t want to hurt those animals. I can’t bring myself to shoot them."

"The rabbits are so fluffy and cute. The pheasants remind me of Silvester. And the deers look so gentle. Just like us, they have their own family. I’m sad because they are going to get hurt and die because of this kind of game. They are all innocents!" Eve explained her reason for not hunting the animals.

Sera could only sigh while rubbing her temples. She didn’t know if Eve was so kind or if she was just naive.

"I thought you were going to win this to prove something to the royal family. You even practiced archery for a week. I don’t want your effort to go in vain." Sera tried to encourage Eve.

Eve fell silent for a moment. Sera was right. She attended this royal hunt to show the royal family what she could do. She was not a weak princess.

Furthermore, she couldn’t allow Princess Thalia to win. She was still eyeing Alaric. She knew that the princess of Eldara was so determined to have Alaric.

"Don’t worry, Sera. I’m not going to lose," She said with conviction. She gave her a reassuring smile before she moved.

Eve sensed a few rabbits hiding in the big roots of an old tree. She immediately strode toward their hiding spots. Five white rabbits were gathered in the roots, staring at her.

"Oh... they are so cute. I want to hug them." Eve mumbled, admiring their fluffy appearances.

She crouched down, facing the rabbits. For some unknown reason, the rabbits didn’t run away from her.

Sera just watched Eve silently. She didn’t know what the princess was trying to do here. She said she wouldn’t lose, however, she refused to use her bow and arrow.

"Does she plan to capture them with her bare hands?" Sera uttered, taking a deep sigh.

The other knight just laughed upon hearing Sera’s remarks. "Just trust our princess, Commander Sera."

"Julius, there is nothing funny. If she continues acting like this, she won’t get a chance to win this royal hunt competition. What is the use of participating if she won’t even try to win?" Sera expressed her disappointment.

Julius, the knight who accompanied Sera, was one of the knights who witnessed how Eve tamed the dire wolves. Because of Alaric’s warning, he couldn’t tell Sera that Eve possessed a rare talent for taming a beast.

’If Princess Eve can tame dire wolves, I believe she can even tame smaller animals. She can use that to her advantage.’ Julius thought to himself, believing in Eve’s rare talent and capability.

Eve had the same thought in mind. She found a better way to hunt the animals without hurting them with her arrows– Communicate with them!

Eve extended her hands in front of the rabbits, her eyes still fixed on them. A few seconds later, the rabbits came out of their hiding spot.

Five rabbits approached her, not afraid of her.

Eve let out a soft giggle when she finally touched the fluffy rabbits. She cuddled each one of them. "Oh, you are all soft!"

"Don’t worry, I’m not going to hurt you." Eve began talking to them while stroking their heads.

The cute rabbits nudged their heads on her legs. Some of them licked her fingers– a sign of affection and trust.

"But I’m gonna need your help to win this competition. Can you lend me a hand?"

The rabbits seemed to understand her. They flattened their bodies on the ground, waiting for her next words.

Eve smiled with satisfaction. She couldn’t explain it however, she could feel that the rabbits understood her and they were willing to help her.

Without hesitation, Eve continued talking to the five white rabbits, giving them some instructions.

After communicating with the rabbits, Eve continued strolling around the forests. She also encountered several deer and talked to them just like how she approached the rabbits. She never used her bow and arrow. She never hurt any animals she ran into the forests. But instead, she also tried to help them secure their safety, giving them instructions to avoid the other princesses.

"Sigh. One and a half hours have passed. There is no hope for her. She let every animal escape, not hunting them," Sera mumbled.

Julius could only smile sheepishly as he listened to his commander’s frustrations.
