Chapter 87: Chapter 87 Change, it’s changed, it’s changed! Chapter 87: Chapter 87 Change, it’s changed, it’s changed! However, as the origin of this strange disease was unknown, all the doctors could do was shake their heads in despair; claiming that they were helpless to combat it. Some even went so far as to identify it as a plague—an epidemic that was colloquially known as the “plague”.

A plague! It’s a disease that could cause deaths. If it were spread that the Gong Family was afflicted with the plague, there was a chance that the townsfolk, out of fear, might even set fire to their home.

The news terrified everyone in the Gong family, from the household head to the servants. They had lost all hope in life.

Unbelievably, Old Master Gong devised a ruthless strategy. He plan was to infect the other individuals in the town with this peculiar disease so that they too become plagued.

In such a case, everybody would be in the same wretched state and nobody could even think of threatening others with the same fate.

As a consequence, the terrifying scene of the entire town being inflicted with the strange disease was created, transforming the once prosperous Hongling town in Qianlin County into a ‘dead town’ with very few people to be seen even during the day.

“Goddess, tell us whether the Gong household deserves punishment from the heavens? You must demand thunder to punish this family!” An indignant woman implored, her words interspersed with bouts of heavy coughing.

Lin Caisang: “…”

Did these people really consider her a goddess? If she had the ability to control thunderstorms, would she really need to earn money by performing tasks?

“Cough… Old lady, may I ask you, apart from this town, is there any other place where people have contracted this strange disease?” She questioned the old woman.

“I don’t… think so.”

The old woman glanced at everyone, only answering Lin Caisang’s question after seeing everyone shake their heads..

“Goddess, this dreadful disease has taken a toll on everyone here. It doesn’t take much time for a robust individual to become fatally ill. Since it’s not the time for a market gathering, the disease hasn’t spread too far. The villagers have heard about our affliction and nobody dares to come here. Even the town gates are still shut.”

A man explained.

“That…”

Lin Caisang gritted her teeth as she looked at the diseased individuals around her and soon came up with a plan.

“Old woman, let me take your pulse first.”

“Oh, thank you, goddess, thank you, goddess.” The old woman thanked her profusely as she offered her trembling hand to Lin Caisang.

After a while, Caisang took the old woman’s pulse, asked a man to leave a sample of his blood, then used two empty bowls and some clear water to conduct some research.

She dripped the blood into the two bowls of clear water; one was held in her hand over a small fire, the other was left on the broken table, exposed to the cold wind.

“Oh, it’s changing…it’s changing, it’s changing!”

Not long after, a few people who were watching Lin Caisang’s experiment were startled to see that the bowl of bloodwater that was heated above the fire had turned green, causing their voices to tremble in shock.

Lin Caisang’s gaze grew deep, as she carefully observed the coloured bloodwater in her hand, drew in a sharp breath and was about to draw a conclusion when another startled scream broke her train of thought.

“Ah, this one’s changed too, it’s changed too, goddess, goddess.”

Glancing sideways, her entire being was shocked on seeing the dark shade of bloodwater which was left in the cold wind.

The bloodwater had turned pitch black!

“How can this be?”

Lin Caisang murmured to herself in disbelief. This was simply unthinkable!

She had added a chemical agent to the clear water which she had developed herself. If the blood turned green upon heating, it indicated a disease mutation rather than a poison. However, if it turned black in a cold environment, it signified a poison instead of a disease.
