Chapter 390: Chapter 390- But That Doesn’t Mean I Entirely Trust You
Sol was thoroughly taken aback by Cian’s reaction who looked completely petrified.
Sol couldn’t help looking between Cian and Abdu.
Little Zeel, who had not said a word until now, was somewhat dumbfounded by Cian’s reaction as well and he turned to look at this elder brother of his with suspicion.
However, needless to say, Abdu was having the same reaction as them. After being interrupted before he could berate this lying bastard, he stared at Cian in a daze.
However, Abdu soon squinted his eyes. He temporarily placed Keres at the back of his mind and asked.
"Brat, you know of my existence?"
Cian shivered and he seemed too terrified to talk.
"What are you scared of? It’s not like I’m going to eat you."
Abdu said as he wiggled his paw towards Cian. Cian’s body went rigid before he felt a mysterious soul force envelop him and carried him back to the table.
Cian’s heart started to pound wildly in his chest, and his face went even paler than before when he heard Abdu’s words. He couldn’t help but imagine being eaten, which caused his body to start trembling controllably.
However, Cian could see that Abdu wasn’t like the Nian beasts in the legends. If he was, the entire Eastern Continent would have probably become a wasteland long ago.
By the time Cian was brought back to the table, his fear of Abdu had completely vanished to be replaced by intense curiosity. He kept on stealing glances at Abdu as if he wanted to open him up and see what was inside.
"Sit and tell me what you know."
Abdu said after letting go of Cian.
Cian didn’t hesitate to sit back down in his seat, his eyes still lingering on Abdu. After a moment he said.
"Senior-"
"Just call me Little Abdu."
Abdu interrupted, and Cian was a little taken aback by the name. But he still nodded and said.
"Little Abdu sir, do you not know what kind of existence you are?"
Abdu was sitting on his hind legs next to Sol while his tail slowly swayed from side to side.
"I have some guesses of my own, but I want to hear it from you."
Sol and Little Zeel both looked at Cian waiting for him to speak, they wanted to know as well.
Cian remained silent for a moment to gather his thoughts before explaining.
"Little Abdu sir, you, or rather your kind are servants of the Keres."
Sol’s face froze and Little Zeel had a shocked look appear on his adorable face.
Abdu’s tail momentarily stopped moving, but it soon continued as he said calmly.
"Continue."
Sol opened his mouth to say something, but Abdu added.
"I’ll explain things afterward."
Sol closed his mouth upon hearing that before turning his attention back to Cian. With the attention back on him Cian continued to say.
"The Nian Beast creatures are existences that are born from human suffering. They... uhh..."
Cian suddenly paused and looked at Abdu with a hesitant expression.
"No matter what you have to say, say it."
Cian nodded before he said slowly.
"Because they are the manifestations of the malignant emotions of Mortals, their nature is to sow chaos and destruction everywhere they go. This is especially the case as the greatest suffering of Mortals is death, thus, Nian Beasts have become the embodiment of death itself. During the Archaic Era when Mortals were first created by the Gods, Nian Beasts tried to become one of the Divine Races, so they went on to conquer and lay waste to the Mortal Realm. They had almost succeeded if not for the intervention of the true Divine Races in the Heavenly Realm."
At this point in Cian’s explanation, even Little Zeel was slightly trembling and was looking at Abdu in horror. Sol’s heart was also shaken quite a bit.
Now they understood why Cian had such a reaction when he saw Abdu.
"What happened afterward?"
Abdu asked, but from his tone, he seemed to already know the answer.
Cian paused before saying.
"Afterwards, the Divine Races renounced their claim to be a race itself much less a Divine Race. Then as punishment for their actions, they were condemned to be the eternal servants of the Keres in the Mortal Realm."
After Cian said this, the surroundings fell into silence for a brief moment. Abdu then said after a while.
"In the past, I couldn’t recall where I came from or who I was. I only had fragmented pieces of information, but they weren’t my own, they were of humans in their last moments of life. Whether I was influenced by them, or it was because of my loneliness, I began taking on their appearance and living their lives. Then one day, a boy who had the tattoo of a Demon’s fang on his forehead appeared and offered to be my friend. I felt a subtle connection towards him, so I agreed. I then lived with the boy and his family; however, the boy had been inflicted with a curse, a curse that caused him suffering and eventually led to his death along with his entire family, leaving me alone once again."
Sol was silent as Abdu spoke, but his thoughts were all over the place. He had somewhat guessed that Abdu’s connection to Su Jin was due to him being a God’s Chosen of Keres, but not to this extent.
Abdu’s gaze was lowered, and his voice was soft as he spoke, but he then looked up at Cian and said coldly.
"That curse was him being a God’s Chosen of Keres. The Holy Crest corrupted his soul and plunged his mind into madness, turning him into a thoughtless demon that only knows how to slaughter. But despite that, you’re going to sit here and tell me that Keres and their Chosens are bound by some stupid law that prevents them from taking lives."
Cian became nervous.
"Little Abdu sir, I understand your anger, and I will not dismiss what happened, but... there are times when a person is chosen to become a God’s Chosen but the Holy Crest of that God is incompatible with their nature and soul. As a result, their souls become corrupted. This is something I read in old texts from my Church."
Abdu didn’t seem to be satisfied with that answer, but he didn’t say anything more. He directly scattered his body into Death Energy and went back into the formation on Sol’s hand.
Sol sent his mind into the formation and talked to Abdu for a while, and after making sure he was alright he turned back to Cian. He saw that Cian was wearing a nervous expression. After staying silent for a moment to make Cian stir in his nervousness, Sol smiled and said.
"You’re off the hook. At least Little Abdu won’t eat you."
Cian seemed to breathe a sigh of relief upon hearing that, but Sol then added.
"But that doesn’t mean I entirely trust you."
Cian looked at Sol and he realized that even though he was smiling, there was a bit of coldness within it.
