Chapter 203: Chapter 203- Everyone Is In Debt!!
"Thank you. Now let me explain a few things about this auction. It is quite different from the others since there has never been an auction of this scale in Pearl City before, so we had to change a few things. Just the fact that we had to burrow this battle arena from the Azure Dragon Sect is a testament to this. Also, I would like to thank the Azure Dragon Sect for this favor."
Byeong-Ho cupped his fist and bowed toward a certain area on the second floor.
Everyone turned in that direction and an old man in azure colored robes could be seen nodding in response to Byeong-Ho’s words.
"My Azure Dragon Sect is also participating in this auction so it is the least we can do to help Disciple Yoon-Jae."
Park Yong frowned when he heard that.
’Okay, he sold medicinal plants and herbs to the top Sects as well, that’s not a surprise. But did the Azure Dragon Sect give them the battle arena to use for free? Just how large a sum is their debt?’
Park Yong was drawn out of his thoughts by Byeong-Ho’s voice.
Even though he wasn’t speaking loudly, he used his Aether Energy so his voice traveled throughout the arena.
"Because of the scale of the auction, the difficulty in bringing out the bidding items has increased. So we’ve taken the liberty of acquiring the help of the Treasure Refinement Sect to solve this issue."
After Byeong-Ho said that, the small red ruby on the table next to Park Yong glowed before numerous runes appeared on it.
An illusory red screen then appeared, hovering above the table. On this screen was a realistic image of a medicinal plant.
Fascinated by this, Park Yong raised his fingers and tried to touch it. It looked too real.
As he did, the illusory red screen suddenly disappeared to be replaced by the medicinal plant in the picture.
Park Yong was shocked when it appeared.
This illusory image was a one-for-one replica of the real medicinal plant. Not only that, Park Yong could even smell the aroma radiating from it.
It was simply outstanding that a Spirit Treasure like this existed.
"Amazing, the Treasure Refinement Sect had Spirit Treasures like this?"
Sang-Hun said and Park Yong turned to see that he had a green screen in from of him as well. Afterward, he turned to look at the other booths and realized everyone had one.
"Right now our VIP guests should be seeing a projection screen next to them. It’s a simple Spirit treasure to operate. All you need to do is swipe left or right to see the various medicinal plants that will be auctioned. For those who had given us their medicinal plants and herbs to sell, we’ve marked them in your catalog."
Park Yong swiped his hand and after a few medicinal plants, he saw one of the medicinal plants he would be auctioning.
’How convenient.’
He wasn’t the only one who thought this, the other VIP guests were thinking similar things.
"Another feature of this Spirit Treasure is that it can allow you to bid anonymously."
"What about us on the ground floor?!"
Byeong-Ho turned to address the ground-floor crowd.
"Unfortunately we aren’t able to place these Spirit treasures for our Open section guests as they were limited."
A few people were upset at this but they realized this feature was only for people above them. In this case both figuratively and literally.
"However, we’ll be having this."
Byeong-Ho waved his hand and the stage lit up with runes. A large green screen appeared, showing the first item that would be up for auction.
The ground floor guests felt a bit better, they thought they would have to go through the auction not seeing any of the items.
"Before starting the auction I’d like to thank the Treasure Refinement Sect for allowing us to burrow these Spirit Treasures."
A middle-aged man in the booth next to the Azure Dragon Sect shook his head and said.
"This was merely a far-off concept for my Treasure Refinement Sect. The disciples from the Runes and Formation Pavilion of the Martial Alliance Academy were the ones who perfected the idea and made it come to reality."
A little chatter occurred in the crowd.
Meanwhile, Park Yong raised his head from his screen.
’Again? Did the Treasure Refinement Sect gift them the concept of this Spirit Treasure to pay off their debt? Why else would they willingly give away something like this for free?’
"Now let’s start the auction!"
Byeong-Ho interrupted Park Yong’s thoughts once more.
"The first item is the Tier 4 medicinal plant Twin-Tail Ginseng. It’s one of the main ingredients in making one of the many variations of a Tier 4 Aether Cleansing pill. The bid will start at 5,000 mid-grade Aether Stones!"
Normally a Tier 4 medicinal plant like this would be valued at 6,000 or 7,000 mid-grade Aether Stones. However, a tactic used during auctions was to start off at a slightly lower price than the original to encourage bidders.
By the end of the bid, it might even double or triple the original price by stirring up the desire between two or more people determined to get it.
Park Yong thought that with the number of Sects and Clans that desire medicinal plants and herbs, the price might skyrocket.
However, as he was scrolling through the list of items up for bid, he heard not a peep coming from the crowd.
"The Tier 4 Twin-Tail Ginseng for 5,000 mid-grade Aether Stones going once, does anyone want to bid?"
"..."
Park Yong looked around the arena with a dumbfounded expression on his face.
’Why is no one bidding on the item?’
"Gong twice! Anyone?"
Byeong-Ho called again, but no one bid. Everyone was just looking around at each other.
"Alright, for the first item, it seems no one is interested. It’s fine we have plenty more medicinal plants and herbs of a higher Tier."
Byeong-Ho then moved on to the next item very casually.
However, the Sect Leader for the Azure Dragon Sect had an ugly expression appear on his face when he saw that no one bid for the Twin-Tail Ginseng.
That was one of the items he had given to the Alchemy Pavilion to be auctioned off. But what was this?
The next item that came out was a Tier 4 medicinal herb that had matured, meaning it was several levels more valuable. However, the same thing happened once more, and no one bid for it.
Byeong-Ho expression remained unperturbed as he moved on to the next item.
At first, everyone thought perhaps it was a coincidence the first and second times. But as the third, fourth, and fifth items came out and no one bid, chattering started to happen on the ground floor.
"Hey, what’s going on? Why aren’t the Sects and Clans bidding? I thought they were desperate to buy medicinal plants and herbs?"
"Who knows? This situation is strange."
As the crowd continued to question this strange situation, Byeong-Ho just moved on to the eighth item, a batch of Tier 5 medicinal herbs.
"Because we’ve received numerous medicinal plants and herbs of similar types to be auctioned off, we have decided to place them in batches and auction them off."
After announcing this, Byeong-Ho called out the price for the batch of medicinal plants. However, he quickly moved as no one placed a bid.
The Silver Cloud Sect was one of the three Top Sects in Pearl City, along with the Azure Dragon Sect and the Treasure Refinement Sect.
Their Sect Leader was a man who looked to be in his early fifties, he was heard to miss on the second floor as he was wearing all white.
He suddenly stood up in his booth and roared.
"How come no one is bidding?! Two of the items I placed have already gone without having someone bid on them! By this point how am I going to pay off that accursed debt!!"
The Mortals and low-level cultivators on the ground were confused.
What debt?
However, some of the smaller Sects and Clans Leaders among them had their faces change.
The other medium, and top Sects and Clans in the VIP section also had their faces twisted into ugly expressions.
"Impossible, no, it can’t be."
Park Yong said as he gripped the chair’s armrest.
Sang-Hun looked over and asked.
"Brother Yong, what is it?"
Park Yong’s chest started to heave up and down while his eyes became bloodshot. Any moment now fire would spurt out of them.
"Brother Sang-Hun, do you have any intentions of purchasing medicinal plants or herbs at this auction?"
Sang-Hun was confused by this question.
"Huh? Why would I? I’m in debt. I came here to see how the items I place in the auction would sell."
Park Yong gripped the chair harder.
"Brother Sang-Hun, don’t you realize what’s going on? Think, why did everyone come here?"
Sang-Hun eyes widen.
"No, impossible!"
Sang-Hun jumped up from his seat and then looked around the arena; his face had distorted into a wretched expression.
"Don’t tell me everyone is only here because they’ve put items up for bid in the auction?"
"What else could it be?"
Park Yong growled out.
"The reason why no one is bidding for the items is that everyone is in debt! Those bastards actually scammed every single Sect and Clan in the City!!"
Park Yong almost felt like coughing up blood after saying this.
