Chapter 136: Chapter 136- A Small Hill And A Large Mountain
"You mean you were born with a Holy Crest? I have never heard of someone being born with one. Holy Crests usually appear when someone is young. Over time the Will of the God contained inside will influence the person to become their follower whether they chose to or not. Do you not have the burning desire to worship this God?"
Sol shook his head.
He already read this information in those books, but he wonder if he really had a Holy Crest.
Rather than feeling as if he was being influenced by it, he felt comfort and warmth from this golden sun.
Sol closed his eyes and traced his fingers over the golden sun tattoo.
Even if the entire world was out to kill him, Sol felt like this sun would be the first one to protect him.
It was a strange sensation, but if he really had to describe it in words, Sol would describe the feeling as ’Motherly love.’
If he had a Mother perhaps this was how he would have felt every time he hugged her.
"Show me."
Abdu’s words suddenly snapped Sol out of his thoughts.
"Do you have any control over it?"
Sol paused for a moment then nodded his head slowly.
"Then show it to me."
"Okay, but I want to hold and pet for an hour in returned."
Sol didn’t wait for Abdu’s counteroffer as he raised his hands and placed them five inches apart in front of him.
The golden sun began releasing a radiant golden glow and slowly a power that laid dormant inside of Sol came forth.
Sol’s robes and hair fluttered slowly, showing how gentle this energy was.
Abdu watched as wisps of golden energy formed between Sol’s palms.
Sensing this peaceful, almost harmless energy, Abdu couldn’t help but frown.
"I knew the Holy Crests of other Gods could appear on someone, but I never heard of a sun Holy Crest. And judging from this peaceful Holy Energy, this God at the very least doesn’t have their followers slaughter people as sacrifices."
Sol smiled.
"I once promised my Master that I’d never use this power."
"Why? A Holy Crest is created from the power of a living God. Repulsion wasn’t the only thing Immortal Deities felt towards it, they also felt fear for it and the people who had them. The power that someone marked by one would be able to wield was something to be terrified of."
Sol glanced at the wisps of Holy Energy between his palms before replying.
"I didn’t care about the power I could obtain if I had acknowledged it. Not when the people who killed my Father and destroyed my village used the very same power to do so. However, now I know there is a difference between the power I have and theirs. I’m not so repulsed by it anymore."
With a thought, Sol made the anklet clamp back onto this foot.
The gold color in his hair was suddenly wiped away along with the Holy Power from the sun tattoo; which slowly faded away with the crescent moon on his forehead.
Sol immediately felt lightheaded right after, and he almost fell back onto his butt. Luckily a black arm appeared behind him to prevent him from falling.
"Are you okay?"
"I’m fine, I’m just not used to using my Holy Energy coupled with the backlash of taking off two bracelets. But I’ll be fine."
Abdu nodded before he retrieved his arm.
He then looked at Sol and explained.
"I don’t know if that’s a Holy Crest but if it is then it’s strange. The only way for one to obtain a Holy Crest is by becoming a God’s Chosen, or if one of you’re parents was a God’s Chosen. But even then the one you have is not like the ones in the past. Even with a parent being a God’s Chosen you can’t be born with it."
Sol knew what Abdu was trying to infer, how could he not when he saw those memories of his Father moving through the stars? The entire reason why he was so desperate to learn about Holy Crests was because he wanted to know the ways in which someone could obtain it.
As if Abdu didn’t want to believe the absurd conclusion he was speculating and what kind of existence Sol could be, he began bombarding Sol with questions.
"Just who are you, brat? What’s your background in the outside world? Not to mention that Holy Crest, I can sense that the crescent moon is a product of an ancient bloodline. One far older than mine."
While rubbing his forehead, Sol asked.
"Little Abdu, can you keep a secret?"
"It’s fine, I have no incentive to tell someone your secrets nor will I have any in the future."
Sol smiled as he reached for Abdu.
Abdu resisted at first, but ultimately gave up and allowed Sol to pet him.
Sol’s fingers ran across his fur, completely messing up his meticulous work on getting it as neat as possible.
Abdu was irritated but was more focused on Sol’s response.
"I don’t know my background, but my Master speculated that I might not be of this world."
"Well, that’s obvious. What I want to know is who that Father of yours was. Was he some old monster from the stars? Did he rule the planet when he came here? How strong was he?"
"I..."
Sol was slightly speechless by Abdu’s questions.
"My Father was my Father, he was strong but he wasn’t as strong as you’re making him out to be."
Sol was referring to the Father he grew up with, not the one he saw in those memories.
"What about your Mother?"
"I’ve never met my Mother, so I don’t know."
If Sol was correct, the crescent moon came from his Father and the golden sun was likely from his Mother.
After not getting anything out of Sol, Abdu frowned.
"Hey brat, why do you sound so uninterested in answering my questions?"
Sol forced a smile while scratching his cheek.
"I’m sorry Little Abdu, I just don’t want to talk about it is all."
Abdu’s frown became deeper.
"Do you not have any ambitions to find out your origins? What if you’re the child of a..."
Abdu paused.
"...Brat, I don’t even want to say it out loud."
"Well, of course I do! That’s one of the reasons why I want to get stronger. It’s just..."
Sol suddenly released a heavy sigh.
He lifted Abdu in the air and then said.
"Think of it like this Little Abdu. I’m a farmer that’s lost in the forest and can’t find my way home. Perhaps I didn’t even know I was lost until something happened. When I finally discovered my situation a kind stranger told me how to get home. However, I have to climb a small hill and a large mountain on that path. Now this large mountain is the biggest obstacle in my way and perhaps the most important. In order to climb it, I can either walk around the small hill to save time, or I can just overcome the small hill first. What do you think I should do?"
Abdu looked at Sol and then replied.
"Why waste time on the small hill if the large mountain is so important? It’s best if you go around the small hill and focus on the larger obstacle."
Sol’s shoulders slumped.
"But the small hill is all I have ever known. My time away from my home has been replaced by the memories I made there. Do I really have to avoid it?"
"I guess you aren’t actually talking about a small hill and a large mountain."
Sol shook his head.
"Put me down."
Sol lowered his hand and placed Abdu on the table.
"Sit."
Sol then sat on one of the chairs around the table.
"Is the small hill that village you lived in when you came to this world?"
Sol smiled bitterly before he corrected.
"That village is... was my home Little Abdu. I can’t just forget about it just because I discovered I wasn’t who I thought I was. I’d rather climb the small hill than avoid it altogether."
