The Great Sword is not the Main Body! -
Chapter 223 – Ancient Dragon, Sirinias (8)
Contrary to Sirin’s resolve, the flame that sought to shatter the heavens withered away powerlessly beneath the Black Sun.
It burned the leaves of the ash tree and reached Sirin soaring through the skies, but that was all.
Just like the ash tree, which once held sacred light, the Heavenbreaker flame could not drive out the darkness of the [End].
Thus, the flame that failed to break the heavens became a servant of the Nameless One.
And Sirin could only bear witness to it all.
* * *
The chains of law binding Sirin’s body were severed.
A deeper despair scattered across the world.
Thus began the Great War.
Once again, the only survivors were the demons.
But they, too, were reduced to ashes by the flame of their ancestor who had once led them.
In the center of a battlefield devoid of anything, Sirin gazed blankly at the scattering ash, then lifted her head to stare at Yggdrasil rooted at the world’s edge.
After a moment, feeling the chains of law restraining her entire body, she flapped her wings and took flight.
Soaring to the highest point where everything was visible, Sirin watched a world slowly collapsing under the End’s grasp.
* * *
More chains were severed than before.
The world once filled with happiness was now blanketed in filthy despair.
Thus broke out the Great War.
But unlike before, it was a war between beasts and beings that were not beasts.
The unending war raged for countless eons.
And in the end, the ones left standing were the beasts.
Yet even they were reduced to ashes by the flames of hell.
Though Sirin revealed herself to the world, she did not set foot on the ground.
She only wandered beneath the Black Sun, watching the world get devoured by the End.
And then, the world began anew.
* * *
No chains were broken.
There was no despair.
No beasts existed.
Yet war still erupted.
The cause, greed from the elves who coveted the dwarves’ technology.
A war sparked by vile desire ended faster than any before.
At its conclusion, only demons remained.
All that was left on the earth was ash.
Sirin’s eyes turned to the land.
There, the [End] was devouring the world.
* * *
A chain was broken.
Despair scattered.
War broke out.
Only ashes remained.
The awakened [End] began devouring the world.
Emotionless eyes stared as the [End] consumed it all.
* * *
A chain was broken.
Despair scattered.
War broke out.
Only ashes remained.
The awakened [End] began devouring the world.
Sirin’s eyes watched as the [End] consumed everything.
* * *
A chain was broken.
Despair scattered.
War broke out.
Only ashes remained.
The awakened [End] began devouring the world.
The eyes of the ancient dragon watched as the [End] consumed all.
* * *
A chain was broken.
Despair scattered.
War broke out.
Only ashes remained.
The awakened [End] began devouring the world.
The eyes of [Law] watched as the [End] consumed all.
* * *
A chain was broken.
Despair scattered.
War broke out.
Only ashes remained.
The awakened [Law] began to collapse the world.
And the [End] sneered at the crumbling world.
* * *
A chain was broken.
Despair scattered.
Above the ruins where war had ended,
A red moon rose.
The eyes of [Law] looked upon the earth.
There, an Angel with black wings was glaring at the heavens.
Eyes steeped in hatred, resembling the red moon.
[Law], gazing upon those eyes, recalled her past.
Dragged from the outside world.
She had lost her newfound family, her closest friend, her only pillar, her beloved, and even the child she carried in her womb.
In the end, she had lost everything.
That Angel took flight.
To bring down the heavens, the source of all despair.
To fulfill the wishes of the dead in their place.
The flames of hell burned her wings. The strength of the spirits shattered her limbs. And yet she did not give up. Clinging with her teeth to the edge of the sky, she crawled upward with sheer desperation.
Through the fire, past the ash tree, the Angel finally reached Sirin.
Her body was so broken it was a miracle he still lived.
But she moved.
She spread broken, creaking wings, extended twisted limbs, and raised the red moon.
Black feathers scattered as she poured out the [Demonic Energy] contained within.
Facing her, [Law], measuring the power of the Fallen,
Killed the Angel.
* * *
The red moon that had become a servant of the Nameless One faded.
A new world began.
Despair scattered.
The Great War broke out.
Only black feathers remained.
Feathers blanketing the bleak ruins.
[Law] descended upon them,
And shattered the world.
* * *
And so the cycle repeated: a newly begun world.
Within the despair scattered across it,
A girl of the beastkin was born, something that had not existed until now.
Like the red moon, she too had been dragged in from the outside world.
That girl was special.
She wielded magic no beastkin should be able to control, and she never aged, as if time itself stood still.
Because of that, the girl was abandoned by her parents.
Abandoned by her own kind, she became a slave.
Elf, dwarf, Angel, demon, human,
Regardless of race, the girl endured constant abuse and persecution every time her master changed.
Then, one winter day, she met a friend.
A puppy.
She found the puppy rummaging through a trash bin, its eyes blind to the world.
The girl felt a sense of kinship with the pup.
And so, the blind puppy and the girl, left alone by the world, became each other’s only friend.
Every day became a joy.
Even on days when her master beat her, holding her friend in her arms melted away the pain.
One meal a day, half a slice of dried-out bread, was all she had, but she still split it in two and fed it to the puppy.
In this way, the girl smiled for the first time in a life that had only ever been cold.
And then, nearly three years later,
On the day she tried to go out and give her friend a scarf she had made from discarded yarn,
Her master caught her.
The result was obvious.
Her friend was killed.
And the girl was beaten.
Beaten, and beaten, and beaten.
She swallowed fallen snow because she was denied water.
She chewed on weeds because she was denied food.
After more than five days of this, her master shoved her friend’s corpse into her mouth and said:
‘Eat. Chew every bit. Leave nothing, not even the bones.’
The girl shook her head.
She clung to her friend’s lifeless body, now ice cold, and endured the master’s violence.
On the seventh day,
Her friend vanished from the world without a trace,
And became one with her.
The girl hated her parents who had abandoned her.
She hated her kin who sold her.
She hated the world that had made her this way.
Thus, she summoned winter upon the world.
A winter that would never end.
It was the winter of her birth.
It was the winter she met her friend.
It was the winter she lost everything.
Without warning or sign, the winter began. It ended the Great War, and killed all life except for the girl.
But that wasn’t all.
The blizzard that covered the entire world buried the black feathers.
The howling winds extinguished flames.
The bitter cold withered the leaves of the ash tree.
Feeling that even she had been reached by this winter, [Law] watched the unprecedented anomaly unfold, an event that had never once occurred before.
After a long silence,
Just as the [End] awakened,
[Law] killed the girl.
* * *
A new world began.
Despair scattered.
A Great War broke out.
Two races survived.
The beastkin,
And, for the first time in history,
Humans.
[Law’s] ‘eyes’ moved restlessly to identify the anomaly in this generation. The source of the anomaly turned out to be a woman who led the humans.
Kartia.
Her unique ability was the very reason this anomaly had occurred.
Her power opened up a possibility that had never existed before.
In fact, her very existence was a miracle.
Until now, the heroes who led each era had always come from outside this world. That was how they could possess power beyond the [Law].
But that human,
Kartia was different.
She clearly belonged to this world.
She was a cog meant only to support the birth of a hero, bound by the laws, incapable of growth.
And yet, this human defied the laws.
She broke free of the [Law], cut down all of the [End]’s Apostles, heroes of previous generations, and carved wounds into the body of [Law].
[Law], who had never once bled, roared upon seeing blood flowing from her own flesh.
That roar carried emotions never before felt.
Joy.
Anticipation.
And,
Regret.
Guilt.
Embracing all of that, [Law] spoke a sacred [decree], something she had never done before. She unfolded an ancient magic circle that filled the sky.
But Kartia, with Frey who opened the path before her, slashed through it all with a single sword, rending [Law]’s hide and tearing her muscle apart.
By the time her body was soaked in blood,
The Black Sun rose, and the [End] revealed itself.
The moment it set foot in the world, it opened its maw and devoured every sea.
This was a path unlike anything seen before.
Had the Nameless One fully absorbed Lilith’s power?
Before that answer could be found, chains rained down from the heavens and bound [Law]’s entire body.
They broke her massive wings, coiled around her neck.
They sealed her roaring mouth and tore out the claws trying to rip them free.
And through the gaps of the chains, as if forbidding even sight,
One could glimpse the [End], having consumed half the continent.
And a human, leaving every last ounce of possibility behind for the next generation, carved deep wounds into the [End]’s body to secure perfect victory.
* * *
In this newly begun world,
A shrine maiden was born, created for the deification of the Nameless One.
And,
A tiny blind girl appeared,
So small, not even [Law]’s ‘eyes’ could see her.
