Chapter 473: A Visit From A Vile Woman (II)
"Certainly! He made Princess Anna his concubine and claimed her as his partner. They must have been intimate after they met!"
Though Kiev felt a surge of anger at this fact, he knew well that the way the princess and the grand duke held each other indicated their relationship had progressed as a couple.
Furthermore, during their meeting at Gerhard’s mansion, Clara revealed that Anna and Kyren had gotten married due to a dangerous aphrodisiac, and they had been intimate so that the grand duke could save her life.
However, it was clear that their bond had grown beyond mere responsibility; he could see how much they wanted to be together.
"But His Majesty said he couldn’t produce any heirs!" the chief lady-in-waiting exclaimed, as his fact contradicted the information she already possessed.
The statement caught Kiev’s attention.
"Why would the king say that? The grand duke didn’t seem to have any problem to me," he replied.
"He’s impotent! His Majesty and Mr Amares were the only ones who knew about this. That’s why the grand duke didn’t want to become king," Sarah explained.
"What?? It can’t be! I’m certain the child is his! I checked the baby’s condition! The heartbeat and everything... Its growth is aligned with the time they were together! The baby was already there before the grand duke went on his expedition! She was always with him during those moments!" exclaimed Kiev.
Sarah absorbed the explanation with a pensive expression. The desperation in the Mederian Prince’s voice told her he wasn’t lying. Then, after realising this, she suddenly chuckled.
"Do you hear that?" She turned to Naise. "The baby is truly Kyren’s child! That means... his infertility issue is resolved, but he doesn’t know! The king and the rest of them also don’t know! Ha ha ha ha!!!!"
Sarah’s laugh grew so loud that it sounded almost lunatic. Realising the danger of the situation, Naise trembled in fear. They had gotten their hands dirty over Kyren’s true heir, not Anna’s illegitimate child.
If this matter became known, the chief lady-in-waiting’s plan could backfire on her and all the ladies-in-waiting who conspired against the princess. So, they had to succeed, no matter the cost!
"What is wrong with you?" Kiev sneered, angered by her malicious laughter.
The chief lady-in-waiting smiled in satisfaction.
"Nothing is wrong! Everything is right! My revenge on that st*pid concubine and the grand duke couldn’t be sweeter than this!"
"What do you mean by revenge?" the Mederian prince asked, a concern grew within him.
This was surely not something good.
Sarah continued to smile.
"You see... right after you healed the concubine and passed out, her pregnancy was revealed to those in the chamber. His Majesty threw a fit, announcing the grand duke’s infertility and questioning the knights about who the father was."
"What??" Kiev exclaimed in disbelief.
"Yes! And the best part? Kyren arrived just at that moment and heard everything. I was right behind him, and it bewildered me as well! He too went mad upon discovering she was pregnant, thinking she had betrayed him! Then, I used my information and accused you of being the father, and he believed it! His Majesty did too!"
"What did you say? You accused me??" Kiev asked in utter shock.
"Well... everything just fit! You and her... the possession incident... the night in the forest... Even the Knights of Gerhard couldn’t deny it! I thought you really did father the child!" Sarah said, almost jumping for joy.
Kiev’s mouth widened in shock. His body froze as he comprehended the whole scenario. Then, his irises shifted, and he blinked.
"Princess Anna! Where is she? Where is she now?"
"Where else could she be? She’s also confined, just like you!" the chief lady-in-waiting said. "Everyone believes she’s carrying your b*stard and has tarnished the royal family’s dignity!"
"No! That is not true! I never touched her! All I did was save and protect her!" the Mederian Prince insisted.
"Who cares what the truth is? No one is going to believe you or her!" Sarah shot back.
Kiev’s hands trembled at the thought of Anna being exposed to danger. Desperation filled his mind as he searched for a way to save her. Then, he thought about Kyren.
"The grand duke... he is back! You said he heard what the king mentioned! This is a misunderstanding! I need to speak with him! I need to explain everything!" he pleaded, gripping the iron bars before him. "Let me out of here! Let me out!"
His yelling echoed through the gloomy area.
"Aww... poor prince! No one will attend to your demands now that they see you’re having an ’affair’ with the concubine! Soon, both of you will be punished harshly for this!" Sarah laughed again.
"No!" Kiev exclaimed. "Don’t harm her! You can’t do that! You don’t know how important she is! You must let her go!"
"I gave you the chance to have her banished so you could take her with you, but you arrogantly refused and mocked me with your so-called honour! Now, taste your own foolishness!" Sarah sneered. "All the circumstantial evidence validates your scandal with her. There’s no way for either of you to prove your innocence!"
"No! You can’t do this! How can you be so malicious? You’re a noblewoman! Don’t you have any conscience? What has Princess Anna ever done to you that makes you resent her so much?!" Kiev shouted.
"She shouldn’t have taken what’s mine! I should’ve been Kyren’s official wife! Now that you’ve confirmed he’s not infertile, I can get back to him and make him king as he’s supposed to be, and I will rule by his side as his queen!" Sarah yelled back with an ambitious glint in her eyes.
"You did this to be a queen?!" Kiev asked in disbelief, gritting his teeth. "The throne of Cassian wouldn’t even exist if not for the Ro’ans!"
"Stop dwelling in the past, Prince Kiev! The Ro’ans are no longer in power! They ran off like cowards when they lost in the Great War!" Sarah retorted.
"Watch your mouth! You don’t know who you’re mocking!" the Mederian Prince threatened.
"I’m not scared of your words! They say the Mederians are great with magic, but look at you! You can’t even defend yourself, and were dragged to this dungeon like a hopeless brat! Even your sister couldn’t do anything, like a bird with clipped wings!"
"You! Wait till I regain my powers and get back at you, you villainous, malefic woman! I’ll show you what it means to play with fire!" Kiev yelled at her, his anger mounting.
Sarah only laughed; the threat didn’t bother her in the slightest.
"You won’t even have time for that. By tomorrow, I’ll make sure you and the concubine are dead! She and you will be punished by the law!"
"No! You can’t do this! You can’t do this to us!"
The Mederian prince bashed his arms against the iron bars, the tense sound echoing in the air.
"Oh, yes, I can and I will! This will teach a good lesson to your maid wife, too! She thinks so highly of herself after being your Princess Consort, but that arrogance wouldn’t last long! She will be known as the wife of a shameful adulterer!" Sarah scoffed.
Kiev slumped to the ground as the realisation hit him hard. He was hopelessly being arrested like this, and without Kyren or the Knights of Gerhard believing in Anna’s innocence, the princess was in grave danger.
He kept repeating the word ’No,’ consumed by worry for her, the Ro’an princess who was unprotected in her most fragile state.
"My lady, we’ve been here too long. I have our men push away the guards for a while so we could come here unnoticed, but the shift exchange will happen soon. The new group of guards will be here. We need to move fast," Naise approached and urged her superior.
"Fine! Let’s go," Sarah replied.
She made her move, accompanied by her assistant, but then paused momentarily and glanced back at Kiev with curled lips.
"Continue chanting that, Prince Kiev. I shan’t be interrupting your ’fun’ time anymore. Have a pleasant night!"
The chief lady-in-waiting continued her strides with her assistant, leaving the Mederian prince miserable.
Kiev bowed, devastated.
"I should have taken her with me when I had the chance! I should have done that!" he cried.
He closed his eyes, the sadness gnawing at his heart. If Anna died, it would mean the end of the Ro’an emperor’s direct lineage.
He cried at this thought. His promise to his parents before embarking on this mission would be shattered, along with his oath at Angel’s tomb.
And Elis... they had just gotten married and were supposed to be happy, but everything had been ripped away from them in mere moments.
Footsteps approached again.
"I won’t let you harm her! You can kill me if you want, but not Princess Anna!" he screamed, thinking the sound came from the same people who had visited him.
"Why would we harm Lady Raychard?"
