The Grand Duke's Soulmate
Chapter 457: A Severe Conflict

Chapter 457: A Severe Conflict

Kyren roared, demanding to be released. His cries were a chaotic frenzy fueled by a desire for revenge against Kiev. The knights froze momentarily, taken aback by the grand duke’s wild behaviour.

"I ordered you all to stop him! Didn’t you hear me?!" King Kyden shouted again, his voice slicing through their confusion.

Noah was the first to respond, quickly followed by Eric and the others. They knew they had to prevent the situation from escalating further.

As the knights restrained Kyren, the grand duke fought back with increasing ferocity. His screams filled the air, laced with curses directed at them for ignoring his demands to be released.

Despite the grand duke’s fury, the knights stood firm, obeying the king’s command. Kyren’s anger peaked; he wanted to lash out at anyone who opposed him, but he was outnumbered, and his strength had not fully returned from the exhausting journey.

For days, Kyren had been filled with excitement at the prospect of reuniting with Anna. His sleepless nights were driven by happiness and anticipation.

He had planned to reveal his wife’s rightful status as the heir to Ardel’s throne, solidifying their bond and affirming the kingdom’s allegiance to him as her consort.

With the victory over their enemies in hand, he believed Anna would finally be freed from the rejections she had endured and officially named Grand Duchess of Gerhard. Nevertheless, all that ambition now lay in ruins, shattered by the perceived betrayal awaiting him upon his return.

Amidst the chaos, King Kyden called for backup, "Summon the royal knights!"

At his command, Eli dashed outside, startling Luke and the others who stood waiting.

"What’s happening, Sir Henderson?" Sylvia asked anxiously.

"I can’t explain now!" Eli, the young knight, said hurriedly. He turned to Luke, adding, "Go inside and help the others! Our grand duke is out of control! Everyone else, stay back! It’s dangerous!"

With that, he rushed down the hallway to call the royal knights, leaving the group in a state of confusion outside the chamber. Not wasting a moment, Luke pushed through the door, only to be confronted with utter chaos.

He struggled to comprehend the scene unfolding before him, but when he spotted his comrades trying to restrain the furious grand duke alongside the king, he jumped in to help without hesitation. The immediate need was clear—contain the situation. Answers could come later.

Together, the knights and King Kyden worked to prevent Kyren from reaching the Mederian Prince, Kiev. Despite their efforts, the grand duke was relentless, fueled by his rage as he fought against those trying to hold him back. His anger manifested as a desperate drive to strike out at Kiev.

Meanwhile, the disturbance made it impossible for Elis and Jessy to escort the Mederian Prince out of the chamber, and it kept the queen from taking Anna with her as well. The bedlam obstructed their path to the exit. Rafe, along with his assistant Ayden, looked on in alarm, unsure of what to do, while Anna sobbed uncontrollably on the bed.

Though King Kyden and the knights had a firm grip on Kyren, the grand duke struggled fiercely, looking for any opportunity to break free. The risk of moving towards the door was high for those not involved in the struggle, leaving them frozen in place.

A group of royal knights, led by Eli, appeared at the door in no time.

"Take Prince Kiev and place him in custody!" King Kyden ordered firmly to his men.

The command took Callis and Elis by surprise, prompting them to shout in unison, "No!"

Elis rushed forward, wrapping her arms protectively around the Mederian Prince, while Callis stood defiantly, shielding Kiev from the approaching royal knights, ready to defend her brother. Jessy moved closer to Kiev’s side, her fear for his safety evident.

"If you lay a hand on him, I won’t let you go!" Callis shouted determinedly.

"Callis!" Rafe chimed in suddenly as he got to her side. "Let them take Kiev!" he urged.

"How could you believe them? My brother is innocent!" Callis cried.

Trying to maintain some semblance of calm, the healer replied, "I’m just as confused by what’s happening! But if you don’t hand him over, this situation could get worse! You could be arrested, too!"

"I don’t care!" Callis responded defiantly.

"Think rationally, Callis! Kiev will be in danger if His Highness, the Grand Duke, gets his hands on him! Please, let the royal knights take him away!" Rafe urged, his voice strained with urgency.

Callis shook her head vehemently, tears trickling down her face. The royal knights stood resolute, their hands resting on the hilts of their swords, poised to act should the Mederian Princess refuse to comply.

Alarmed by her stubbornness, Rafe implored her, "Listen to me! His Majesty won’t harm him! We’ll clear up these accusations, I promise! Please, I beg you!"

But the Mederian Princess remained undeterred. Seeing her stubbornness, the royal knights finally unsheathed their swords.

"Step aside! Otherwise, you will considered defying His Majesty’s order, and we will have to act against you!" their leader announced firmly.

"Don’t you dare! I’m not as powerless as you think!" Callis shouted, raising her hands as she prepared to cast a protective barrier around them.

"No one can take him away! He’s mine to kill!" shouted the grand duke, fueled by rage.

With an explosive surge of strength, he pushed Luke and Damon aside, tearing free from their grasp. One of the knights stumbled and nearly collided with Sarah, prompting her terrified scream.

Callis’s heart raced as she saw the fierce determination in Kyren’s blue eyes—it was clear he was intent on eliminating her brother at any cost.

She knew that if the grand duke reached them, her ability to intervene would be severely compromised. She had witnessed him fight Kiev in the arena, and the memory still lingered within her; when Kiev had momentarily lost his magical abilities against Kyren, a deep sense of shock filled her. If she also lost her powers, there would be no way to stop the grand duke.

Trembling, Callis felt the weight of her tears continuing to fall, her resolve beginning to wane.

"Callis, please back down! Please!" Rafe pleaded again, gripping her arms as he sensed her distress.

"My brother didn’t do it, Rafe! He would never do such a thing!" she cried, her voice breaking, now a heartfelt plea.

The healer wrapped his arms around Callis to offer comfort.

"I know. But please, don’t do anything drastic right now. We’ll sort this out, I promise," Rafe reassured her, his voice steady despite the chaos.

Callis’s shoulders slumped as she buried her face in her husband’s chest, sobbing freely. Taking advantage of her distraction, the royal knights edged closer to Kiev, pushing Jessy and Elis aside to seize hold of him.

"No! Please! Don’t take him away! My husband is innocent!" Elis pleaded desperately.

Jessy echoed her plea, but the royal guards paid no heed to their frantic protests. The two women were consumed by anxiousness, their tears pouring without restraints as they watched the royal knights seizing helpless Kiev.

"No! Give him to me! Give him to me!" Kyren shouted, his voice raw with fury as the royal knights took the Mederian Prince and passed through the bedroom door.

"Get ahold of yourself, Kyren!" King Kyden scolded, still firmly gripping his brother to keep him restrained.

Kyren thrashed against the king’s hold, anger driving him to butt his head hard against the king’s forehead in a sudden, aggressive move.

"Arghh!" King Kyden gasped, staggering backwards as pain shot through him.

He instinctively pressed his hand to his forehead. Such assault would surely leave a bruise from the impact.

"Your Majesty!" Queen Emelda exclaimed in panic, but the king raised his hand, signalling his queen to stay back.

Fueled by instinct and anger, King Kyden advanced toward Kyren and, in a sudden act of resolve, threw a powerful punch at his brother’s face.

Kyren’s head snapped back from the force of the blow, and blood spilt from his lips. The nearby knights were taken aback, temporarily losing their grip on the grand duke as he staggered. But Kyren quickly dug in his heels, determined to stay on his feet.

"How dare you!" the grand duke roared.

However, before he could retaliate, King Kyden landed another punch, this one stronger than the first, sending Kyren crashing to the ground.

Coughing violently, the taste of iron filled the grand duke’s mouth as more blood trickled from his busted lip.

"You—" he began to protest, but King Kyden’s fist struck him again before he could finish.

"Hold him!" the king barked at the knights as Kyren attempted to rise and retaliate.

With no choice, the knights seized and tightened their hold on the grand duke. Knelt beside his brother, King Kyden seized Kyren by the collar and relentlessly continued his assault.

Amid the chaos, Anna’s voice broke through.

"Kyren! Kyren!" she screamed, struggling to rise from the bed, but Meredith quickly rushed to her side to stop her.

"Don’t, Anna! It’s too dangerous!" the lady-in-waiting urged.

Her grip was firm yet careful, knowing the urgency of the situation.

"Your Majesty! Please don’t hit Kyren! Please don’t!" Anna begged in desperation.

But her pleas fell on deaf ears as the turmoil continued.

Kyren was hit again and again. Once, twice... and on the third blow, he finally succumbed to unconsciousness, collapsing to the ground.
