Chapter 224: The Mederian Siblings of Naver Family

The clash between their blades reached a crescendo in a moment of sheer intensity. Kiev, known for his resilience and unwavering spirit, sought to withstand Kyren’s overwhelming power.

However, the immense force behind the grand duke’s strike proved to be too much for even his formidable defence.

A resounding crack echoed through the royal arena as their swords collided with full force. The crowd gasped collectively as they witnessed the unimaginable—the blade of Kiev’s sword snapped under the sheer power of Kyren’s strike. The broken weapon spun away, leaving the prince momentarily defenceless.

The arena fell into stunned silence as Kyren, realising the turn of events, halted his attack. He stood tall, his chest heaving with exertion and his gaze fixed on Kiev.

"Yield!" shouted the grand duke to the Mederian Prince.

"Never!" Came the defiant response.

"Your sword is already broken! If you don’t yield now, I shall show you no mercy!" the grand duke warned.

"I am not afraid, and I’m far from losing!" Kiev declared.

"So be it!" Kyren replied, his voice filled with determination.

With a quick motion, the grand duke struck again, leaping through the air and bringing his blade crashing down towards Kiev.

But the prince was not one to back down. He also jumped, executing a spinning move that collided with the grand duke’s weapon. Kiev sent Kyren’s sword flying across the arena ground with a powerful kick.

The spectators gasped in astonishment, and even the King and Queen of Cassian found themselves taken aback by the Mederian Prince’s sudden and impressive counterattack.

Kiev landed gracefully on the ground in a kneeling position, his red-ruby eyes glaring at the grand duke with unwavering resolve. He recognised Kyren as a formidable opponent and believed that relying solely on physical force wouldn’t be enough to outwit him.

However, he had promised himself not to use his magic, as it wouldn’t be fair and would also surprise the audience. Both participants found themselves weaponless after Kiev’s impressive kick sent Kyren’s sword flying. The fight now transformed into a brutal brawl of fists.

Kyren launched a series of punches, but Kiev skillfully evaded them. Seizing an opening, the Mederian Prince retaliated with a fist swing, narrowly missing the grand duke.

With a sudden lurching step, Kiev closed the distance and delivered a powerful kick, striking Kyren’s shoulder and nearly causing him to stumble. However, the grand duke swiftly regained his balance and launched a counterattack.

A hardened blow landed on Kiev’s face, causing blood to spew from his nose. The spectators in the royal arena gasped audibly at the sight as it marked the first sign of bloodshed in the fight.

Kiev momentarily held back, preparing to strike again, but Kyren’s swift kick caught him off guard, hitting him squarely in the head. Another spray of blood escaped from Kiev’s lips as his head spun from the impact.

Before he could fully recover, a barrage of attacks rained down upon him, targeting his face, shoulder, and chest with devastating force.

Callis, who had returned to her seat in the royal arena, clasped her hands together in worry. Her expression changed as she watched the intense battle unfold before her.

"Brother, you can’t lose!" she whispered, her voice filled with concern.

Fueled by determination, Kiev launched a relentless series of punches at Kyren, seeking retaliation for his received blows. One of his punches connected with the grand duke’s jaw, causing Kyren to stagger backwards.

Seizing the opportunity, the prince swiftly followed up with a powerful kick to Kyren’s abdomen, further weakening his opponent and another punch. The impact caused the grand duke’s lips to split, blood staining his mouth.

Despite the pain, the grand duke mustered his strength and fought back, swinging his fists in an attempt to regain control of the fight. However, Kiev managed to grab hold of him, resulting in a fierce entanglement of their bodies as they grappled on the ground.

The crowd watched in anticipation, their gasps filling the air as the battle raged on.

Kiev managed to break free from Kyren’s tackle, his chest heaving with exertion. He hadn’t expected the Grand Duke of Gerhard to possess such incredible strength.

Kyren quickly got back on his feet and dashed to his weapon. With a determined grip on his sword, he regained the advantage before Kiev could stop him.

The Mederian Prince realised that he needed to take decisive action. Relying solely on physical prowess would lead to his defeat, especially now that the grand duke was armed again.

Kiev’s hands began to move gracefully, a display that perplexed the supporters of the grand duke.

"What is he doing?" Luke asked, furrowing his brow.

"Is he going to dance or something?" Damon added, adding to the growing curiosity.

"He must be crazy!" Garin exclaimed, voicing the confusion shared by many.

With determination, Kyren raised his sword and charged at Kiev, intending to deliver a solid blow to the Mederian Prince.

However, in a sudden turn of events, a brilliant white shield materialised, creating a protective barrier around Kiev’s body. The force of Kyren’s sword shattered upon contact with the glowing shield, the blade breaking into pieces.

"What the h*ll is that?" Eric exclaimed, echoing the astonishment felt by the onlookers.

All the knights in the arena rose to their feet in a state of shock, unable to comprehend the astonishing turn of events. A surge of force pushed Kyren’s body as the powerful shield was cast, causing him to fall backwards from the clash.

As Kyren lay on the ground, his senses heightened once more when he witnessed lightning emanating from Kiev’s hands. The Mederian Prince’s red eyes had transformed into a brilliant white, shining like bolts of lightning themselves. At the same time, the grand duke could feel the sense of magic coming from the Mederian Prince.

Kiev unleashed his power, revealing himself as a magic practitioner in a final attempt to secure victory in the duel.

"Oh, my God! He’s a sorcerer!" exclaimed Alex, his voice filled with disbelief.

"He’s going to kill His Highness with his magic! We have to save the grand duke!" shouted Noah, his urgency evident.

The knight wasted no time. He leapt onto the arena ground, intent on reaching Kyren and protecting him from the impending danger. However, before he could pass the guards, Kiev raised his hand and released a lightning bolt toward Kyren.

"No!" cried out the knight in desperation.

The power of the lightning surged through the arena, its intensity threatening to overwhelm Kyren and potentially deliver a fatal blow. However, to the Mederian sibling’s surprise, a golden shield emerged, covering the grand duke just as the lightning reached him.

’Dumm!’

The lightning bounced back with a loud, explosive sound, striking Kiev’s barrier, causing it to shatter and sending him tumbling to the ground. Simultaneously, the Mederian Prince’s hands began to burn with a searing sensation, contorting his face in pain.

Observing her brother’s anguish, Callis panicked and stood up from her seat. Utilising her magic, she swiftly leapt to the arena ground and approached Kiev.

"Brother, are you all right?" she asked anxiously, concern evident in her voice.

Noticing the redness on Kiev’s palm, Callis realised something was amiss.

"My hands! They’re burning!" the Mederian Prince exclaimed in pain.

"I’ll heal you right away!"

Callis quickly placed her left hand on his palm, enchanting her healing magic. A radiant white light emanated from the point of contact as she channelled her restorative powers. After completing one hand, she moved on to the other, healing it as well.

The sudden turn of events left the king astounded.

"What is going on? Are you both magic practitioners? Who are you really?" he asked.

Meanwhile, Kyren, having regained his footing, hesitated to continue the duel as he noticed Callis and Noah already on the arena ground. Reacting swiftly, the grand duke commanded the guards to arrest the Mederian siblings.

"No! Wait! Stop all this!" a voice rang out from the arena’s entrance.

Lord Anson came running, his elderly figure nearly stumbling in his haste. The chief scholar appeared visibly anxious, starkly contrasting his usual composed demeanour.

"Don’t touch them! You’re all being disrespectful! Disrespectful!" Lord Anson shouted, his tone urgent.

The onlookers were taken aback, having never seen Lord Anson display such agitation. He was always known for his calmness and poise.

"Lord Anson, what are you doing here? Why are you defending these people?" the queen inquired with confusion.

Still trying to catch his breath, the chief scholar addressed the monarchs, "Your Majesties... Please forgive me! But these... these two people... " He turned to face Callis and Kiev, then inhaled and exhaled heavily, trying to catch his breath from his run.

Both of the Mederian siblings were bewildered and confused by his behaviour. The chief scholar continued his words, "They are the Mederians and belong to Her Imperial Majesty, the last empress’s family!"

All eyes were fixed on Kiev and Callis, the atmosphere charged with anticipation. Kyren, still reeling from the revelation, asked the question that lingered on everyone’s minds.

"Is this true?" he inquired, his tone filled with a mix of surprise and curiosity.

Kiev’s response was laced with a hint of hostility.

"Is that important?" he hissed, clearly guarded.

Frustrated by the lack of clarity, Kyren pressed further. "Then, who are you? What is your true identity?"

Returning the question, the Mederian Prince challenged, "I should be asking you the same. Why would a Cassian possess such a powerful magic barrier? Who are you, truly? Are you a magic practitioner as well?"

Confusion clouded Kyren’s expression as he genuinely replied, "I don’t know what you mean."

Exasperated, Callis interjected, her voice dripping with contempt. "You know exactly what he means! The golden barrier that just appeared... what was that?"

Kyren paused, his gaze shifting between Kiev and Callis, attempting to comprehend the situation. Before he could respond, the King and Queen, accompanied by Rafe, rushed to the arena ground, as did the Knights of Gerhard.

King Kyden stepped forward, approaching Kiev, and asked cautiously, "Are you truly the family members of Her Imperial Majesty?"

The tension in the air was palpable as everyone awaited Kiev and Callis’s response. Their words had the potential to reshape the course of events and reveal long-held secrets.

"We are members of the Naver family. Her Imperial Majesty was our first cousin twice removed. That’s why we bear the same surname as her maiden name," affirmed the Mederian Prince. "I introduced myself before."

A spark of recognition flickered in Queen Emelda’s eyes. "I remember now! ’Naver’ was Her Imperial Majesty’s maiden name before she married His Imperial Majesty, the Emperor. No wonder it felt so familiar."

Lord Anson approached them, providing further clarification.

"Yes, Your Majesty," Lord Anson said, his words carefully chosen. "I saw Her Highness Princess Callis on my way to the library, and I couldn’t help but notice her unique appearance. Intrigued by this, I discreetly inquired about her identity from one of the attending servants. Upon checking, I found her surname matched that of Her Imperial Majesty’s maiden name, a detail that is not widely known among others."

Lord Anson continued, emphasising the significance of this revelation. "Given that sightings of the Mederians have been scarce for quite some time, it is understandable that we overlooked the connection. The letters of His Imperial Majesty mentioned this, but it remained unnoticed by the majority as the documents are well kept in the library and not available for public reference."

The Knights of Gerhard, particularly Eli and Damon, drastically changed their expressions upon this revelation.

With genuine sincerity in his voice, King Kyden extended an apology.

"Please forgive me for not recognising you earlier," he humbly expressed. "At the time of your introduction, I was unfortunately battling a persistent headache that hindered my attentiveness. Regrettably, I failed to grasp the significance when you mentioned your surname."

Kiev and Callis stood up, and in response, the knights bowed respectfully to them, acknowledging their esteemed lineage.

Kyren, still intrigued, addressed the Mederian Prince, "So, you are a Mederian and not just that, but a member of a prestigious royal family of the clan. Why didn’t you disclose this earlier?"

Kiev’s response was straightforward. "Does it matter? It won’t change our intentions for coming here, anyway."

"Indeed, it doesn’t alter the situation. However, it does raise my curiosity. Why would the Mederians pursue my wife?"
