Chapter 109: The Rampage Of The Fans

The revelation rippled through the spectators, leaving them in shock, disbelief, and awe.

"No! It can’t be!" someone yelled, their voice filled with denial.

"Disperse now! If any of you attempt to harm my wife, I will not hesitate to take immediate action," Kyren declared with authority, his voice ringing through the crowd.

An uproar began among the women. It was undisputable now that the lady standing before them was indeed the grand duke’s spouse. His statement confirmed their deepest fears.

"No! Our Grand Duke can’t be married! We won’t allow it!" voices cried out in protest.

Confusion etched on Anna’s face as she turned to Kyren.

"You’re the Grand Duke?" she asked in disbelief, the sound of a fallen candlestick resonating with a loud clang.

Chaos erupted before she could obtain her answer. Screams and shouts filled the air, leaving Anna frightened by the sudden change in atmosphere.

Sensing the danger, Kyren’s protective instinct took hold as he held Anna firmly in his arms, shielding her from the chaos surrounding them. Without wasting a moment, he commanded his knights, his voice urgent and determined.

"Secure the lady!"

Immediately, Luke and Damon positioned themselves at their side, ready to protect their lady at all costs.

The crowd, overwhelmed with tears, anger, and disappointment, began to surge to them, their emotions fueling their actions. The realisation that the grand duke already obtained himself a wife had ignited a furious response.

In a panic, Anna clung tightly to Kyren, seeking solace and protection in his arms. The two knights did their utmost to hold back the oncoming crowd, their strength tested as people pushed forward.

Thinking swiftly, Kyren knew they had to escape the chaotic scene.

With a burst of strength, he lifted Anna in his arms, carrying her in a bridal style. Leaping over obstacles and pushing aside anyone in their path, he sprinted towards the protective walls of the mansion. The knights valiantly held back the surging fans, providing a temporary barrier to their escape.

Kyren’s agility allowed them to evade the chaos, leaping over the high wall and landing safely on the other side. They made their way back to the safety of the mansion while the knights bravely held their ground, fending off the relentless crowd.

As Kyren’s steps reached the courtyard, a deep sense of tension etched onto his face. The mansion guards, alerted by the commotion, swiftly gathered in response.

However, their numbers were few, and it was clear they would need more to control the unruly crowd effectively. The relentless pushing against the main gate intensified, accompanied by piercing screams and the clamour of metal.

Damon and Luke, the two loyal knights, found themselves in a perilous situation, overwhelmed by the enraged fans pushing the iron gate.

"Hold the main gate! Ensure none of them breach in! Do whatever it takes to hold them back until the palace guards arrive!" Kyren ordered with a mix of urgency and concern, his voice cutting through the tumultuous air.

The mansion guards bowed in unison, acknowledging his command. With determined resolve, they rushed to reinforce the main gate, ready to stand their ground against the furious crowd.

Kyren, carrying Anna, made their way into the mansion, heading towards the foyer.

Anryr and the servants, seeing the grand duke’s arrival, quickly gathered to welcome him. Their eager expressions turned to sheer shock as they laid eyes upon Anna in Kyren’s arms.

The steward, in particular, was taken aback by the unexpected sight before him.

"Summon all the servants and assist the guards in defending the main gate! The fans are in a frenzy!" Kyren commanded, preempting any further questions from Anryr.

The urgency in his voice left no room for hesitation as he swiftly took charge of the situation, ensuring that his household and the guards worked together to maintain order and protect their sanctuary.

The steward bowed in response to Kyren’s order, promptly following his instructions.

Meanwhile, the resounding voice of the grand duke that echoed through the main hall caught the attention of Rafe, Drystan, and Alex, who were present at the time. Startled, the three men blinked in surprise as they laid eyes upon Anna in Kyren’s protective embrace when the couple entered.

"My lady, how did you manage to come out? I never saw you leave through the main entrance," Rafe exclaimed with astonishment.

The two knights, Drystan and Luke, also shared in the bewilderment. They had been seated in the main hall after having lunch, making it highly unlikely for Anna to have snuck past them unnoticed.

The main hall was a necessary passage to reach the main entrance from the grand stairs, which made their confusion all the more palpable.

Kyren gently placed Anna on a nearby settee. He glared at the three men as his expression turned dark.

"What on earth happened? Why was she out there with the fans?" he demanded, his voice filled with anger.

Utterly perplexed, Alex questioned in return, "What? How come?"

Drystan quickly interjected, "It can’t be possible! We’ve been here the entire time, in the main hall. Lady Raychard has been in the private library all this while!"

The revelation stunned them as the realisation dawned that she had managed to escape their watchful eyes. Confusion and concern clouded the room as they grappled with the inexplicable situation.

Kyren turned to Anna, his brow furrowing as he squinted in concentration.

"Private library?" he paused. "Could it be..." he didn’t finish his words as he realised what had happened, causing him to let out a sigh.

It became clear to him what had transpired.

As the mansion’s owner, he was well aware of the existence of a trap door concealed beneath his study table in the private library. Now, he understood how Anna had ended up among the fans without passing through the main entrance.

His hands rested firmly on his waist as frustration mixed with a tinge of anger gripped him.

"You two! Go and defend the main gate immediately!" Kyren commanded, his tone laced with authority and annoyance, directing his words at the two knights.

Drystan and Alex wasted no time, swiftly obeying his orders and rushing towards the foyer. As they reached the scene, they were bewildered by the chaos unfolding before the main gate. It mirrored the disturbing incident three years ago during the proclamation, stirring a sense of déjà vu within them.

Meanwhile, Anna, still seated on the settee, looked up at Kyren in utter astonishment. She had been speechless. Her gaze fixated on him as she struggled to comprehend the revelation about her husband.

His admonishments and orders to his men seemed to fade into the background, unable to penetrate her shock-stricken state. Her eyes remained locked on him, disbelief etched upon her face.

When Kyren met her gaze once more, Anna finally found her voice. Her mouth opened, and she hesitantly asked, "Are you truly the Grand Duke of Gerhard?"

Charles, the chamberlain, hastened towards King Kyden’s study room, his steps quickened by a sense of urgency.

A rapid and insistent knocking resonated through the door, causing the king and Queen Emelda, who was by his side, to turn their attention towards the disturbance.

"Enter," the king commanded.

Charles swiftly entered the room, his countenance clouded with worry, followed closely by Eli. The presence of the knight was unexpected, amplifying the king’s surprise.

"What is the matter?" King Kyden inquired, his gaze fixed on them both.

"Your Majesty, there is an urgent message from His Royal Highness, the Grand Duke of Gerhard," reported the chamberlain.

"What is it?"

Charles gestured for Eli to convey the message without delay. The knight bowed respectfully before his king and queen.

"Greetings to the Sun and Moon of Cassian. I am Elijah Henderson, a knight of the Gerhard knighthood," Eli introduced himself to the royal couple.

"Skip the formalities. What is the urgent message?" King Kyden pressed.

Eli, understanding the need for brevity, responded promptly. "His Highness, the Grand Duke of Gerhard has requested immediate backup. It appears that his fans have gathered before the main gate of his mansion, and the situation demands urgent action."

The reported incident immediately captured Queen Emelda’s attention, prompting her to interject with curiosity and concern.

"Forgive me for interrupting, but why would the Grand Duke require backup? Isn’t it customary for his fans to gather whenever he visits the capital?" she inquired, seeking clarification.

Eli responded respectfully, his tone conveying a sense of urgency. "It appears that an unsettling situation is on the brink of unfolding, Your Majesty."

King Kyden, sensing the gravity of the matter, posed another question, his voice laced with seriousness. "What kind of situation are we facing?"

Eli’s gaze held steadfast as he relayed the information. "Lady Raychard has been spotted amidst the crowd of fans. His Highness immediately dispatched me to seek your aid and requested the deployment of palace guards to the mansion to secure her safety."

The mention of Lady Raychard elicited a bewildered reaction from Queen Emelda, her eyes widening in surprise.

"Lady Raychard?!" she exclaimed, her voice tinged with astonishment.

King Kyden nodded, a solemn expression on his face. "Indeed, she is Kyren’s bride. Do you remember that day I told you I summoned and asked him to bring someone to me? She’s the one that I’m waiting for."

Queen Emelda’s surprise deepened, struggling to process the revelation.

"Your brother is married?" she asked, her voice a mix of disbelief, searching for confirmation.

"Yes. He got married while he was on duty at the border. I learned about it through the last report he sent me. I was as surprised as you were. That’s why I asked him to bring her here so I could meet her in person," the king explained.

"Why didn’t you inform me?" Queen Emelda questioned.

"I kept it a secret to prevent any uproar among his fans. But now, as you can see, the truth has come to light," the king sighed, acknowledging the inevitable turn of events.

Curious, King Kyden turned his attention to Eli, seeking answers.

"How did the fans find out? And why didn’t the grand duke and his wife come directly to the palace upon arrival?"

Eli quickly responded, "I’m not sure how the fans know it. As to why His Highness and the lady didn’t directly come to meet you, it was because His Highness went to see the admiral first to report an incident. We encountered a pirate ship during our voyage a few days ago."

"Pirates?!" The king’s shock was palpable as he instinctively rose from his seat. "Tell me everything that happened."

Eli proceeded to recount the harrowing events, leaving the king, queen, and chamberlain visibly stunned by the stories told to them. King Kyden’s eyes widened in incredulity as he struggled to comprehend what he had just heard.

"The lady did that?" he questioned, his voice filled with awe and disbelief.

"Yes, she indeed did, Your Majesty. Upon our arrival at the port, His Highness instructed Lady Raychard, Mr Amares, and Mr Norman, escorted by two knights, to return to the mansion while he discussed the pirate situation with the admiral. We also attended to the wounded crew members and handed over the captured pirates to the detention centre," Eli explained, providing further details of the events.

Queen Emelda couldn’t contain her shock, her voice filled with astonishment. "Oh, my God! This is truly unbelievable!"

King Kyden’s jaw clenched, his anger simmering as the realisation of the contested safety of Cassian waters sank in.

"Has the admiral taken appropriate action against the pirates?" he inquired, his voice laced with determination.

"Yes, Your Majesty. The admiral has mobilised several fleets to track down the pirates based on our report," Eli responded, offering a glimmer of reassurance.

"Good," the king nodded, finding solace in the decisive action taken by the admiral.

Eli added, "Also, His Highness has requested a hundred palace guards for backup."

"What? Is he declaring war against his fans?" Queen Emelda exclaimed.

The king paused, his mind filled with contemplation as he assessed the gravity of the situation.

"Charles," he called upon the chamberlain, his voice firm and resolute. "Make immediate arrangements for a hundred royal knights to be dispatched to the grand duke’s mansion. Additionally, identify and apprehend the fan group leader responsible for causing this disturbance and endangering the royal family’s safety."

The chamberlain swiftly bowed, acknowledging the king’s command, and promptly left to carry out the order.

Queen Emelda, taken aback by the king’s decision, voiced her disbelief. "You’re sending the royal knights instead?"

King Kyden met the queen’s gaze. His blue eyes stared at her with determination.

"Kyren has never made such a request before. The fact that he did today signifies the immense importance of Lady Raychard to him. Furthermore, her ingenuity played a pivotal role in saving my brother and the entire ship. I am indebted to her, and I owe her more than I can express," the king explained. His assessment of the situation was clear in his mind.

"You’re absolutely right. The lady has proven herself to be truly exceptional," Queen Emelda agreed, her voice filled with admiration.

" If I may suggest, after the challenges they faced, it’s best to let them rest and settle down first. The grand duke also suffered a minor injury from the pirate incident," she proposed empathetically.

"While we were eagerly anticipating their arrival, given their circumstances, the current commotion and lateness of the hour, it would be wise to allow them sufficient time to recover," she added.

The king nodded, acknowledging the wisdom in the queen’s suggestion.

"That is indeed a thoughtful suggestion. I’ve also heard that Lady Raychard had fallen ill during their journey to the capital," he replied.

Turning his attention to Eli, the king continued, "Inform the grand duke that the audience with me is postponed to three days from today. They deserve the opportunity to rest and recuperate before meeting me."

Eli bowed respectfully. "Yes, Your Majesty. I will deliver the message accordingly."
