Chapter 104: The Utmost Reverence Treatment

Chapter 104: The Utmost Reverence Treatment

Under Anryr’s attentive guidance, Anna gracefully ascended the grand staircase, her steps sinking into the plush carpet that adorned each stair.

The hallway stretched before her, inviting her gaze to wander and soak in the resplendent beauty of the mansion’s interior.

The golden glow of the ornate chandeliers cascaded down, casting a warm, opulent ambience throughout the space. Intricate tapestries adorned the walls, their vibrant colours and designs telling tales of extravagance.

Exquisite sculptures stood as silent sentinels along the hallways, testaments to the artistic prowess and refined taste of the mansion’s owner. Reaching the master suite’s entrance, Anryr turned to the lady with a courteous smile.

"This is your suite, my lady. Please, allow me to open the door for you."

With a graceful gesture, he swung the door open, revealing a haven of elegance within. The walls bore a pristine white hue, evoking a sense of serenity, while the plush carpet underfoot caressed her every step.

The master suite’s adornments struck a delicate balance between simplicity and refinement, each piece thoughtfully placed to enhance the overall ambience.

Anna stood at the threshold of the master suite, her breath catching in her throat as she beheld the sheer magnificence before her. Every corner of the suite exuded an extravagant beauty that left her momentarily breathless.

Her eyes roamed ceaselessly, taking in the stunning elegance that surrounded her. It was a realm of luxury far surpassing her modest chambers in Ardel’s castle. The grandeur of the suite seemed to transcend mere luxury; it resonated with an aura befitting royalty as if crafted for a king.

Anna’s dubious voice broke the silence as her emerald eyes surveyed the master suite widely.

"A suite?" Her words hung in the air, tinged with uncertainty.

Sensing her hesitation, Anryr paused his steps and stood by the door beside Rosalie, his gaze fixed on her, apprehension etched on his face.

"Yes, my lady," he replied, his voice laced with nervousness.

The steward couldn’t help but feel a knot of anxiety tighten in his stomach. The news from Drystan, who had returned in a hurried frenzy from the port, had left him utterly shocked. The message conveyed by the knight on behalf of his lord had only deepened his surprise.

Anna’s contemplative pause seemed to stretch, and Anryr’s anxiety heightened. He exchanged glances with Rosalie as both fathom what might be troubling her.

"Is there something wrong? Or perhaps, anything not to your liking?" he ventured cautiously.

In his mind, he couldn’t help but wonder.

How could a wife remain unaware of her own husband’s identity, especially when he was none other than the renowned grand duke?

The very notion baffled him.

Anna’s voice carried a mixture of surprise and uncertainty as she spoke.

"No, not at all. It’s just... this suite, it’s so incredibly luxurious and spacious. Are you sure His Highness permits me to use such an opulent space?" Her words held a hint of disbelief, seeking confirmation.

Anryr’s response came swiftly, and his voice was filled with reassurance. "Absolutely, my lady."

Curiosity sparkled in Anna’s eyes as she asked further.

"What about the knights, the healer, and his assistant? Where are they accommodated?"

The steward’s reply came with a calm and informative tone.

"Dedicated knights’ quarters are located in the east wing specifically designated for them. Mr Amares and Mr Norman have their own individual rooms as well," he explained, ensuring Anna had a clear understanding of the arrangements.

Listening attentively, the princess nodded thoughtfully.

"I see... But shouldn’t the commander also stay at the quarters with the others?"

Her question prompted Anryr to clear his throat before responding.

"This suite has been prepared exclusively for you and your husband. His Highness desires you to have the utmost comfort during your stay. If there is anything you desire or require, please do not hesitate to ask."

He emphasised his words, keenly aware of the explicit instructions from his lord.

The lady was to be treated with the utmost reverence, pampered with the finest service, and provided with the most luxurious accommodations within the mansion.

The princess sought reassurance once more. "He did?"

Anna’s eyes searched Anryr’s face, seeking confirmation, and upon receiving his nod, a small smile graced her lips.

"Kyren must have a good relationship with his lord," she murmured to herself, her words barely audible.

Anryr’s brow furrowed slightly as he caught the soft utterance. A flicker of concern crossed his features, his thoughts momentarily clouded with uncertainty.

"My lady, you must be weary after your long journey. Would you like to refresh yourself with a bath?" Rosalie suggested, her voice gentle and accommodating.

"This suite has a private bathroom that is fully stocked with all your necessities. I would be honoured to assist you," she added.

Anna, however, declined gratefully. "Thank you, Rosalie, but I can manage on my own."

Rosalie’s expression turned slightly concerned, her dedication to her role shining through.

"Please, my lady, allow me to accompany you. As you know, no other female servants are in this mansion. It would be best for me to be present to attend to your needs and ensure your privacy."

Recognising the validity of the chief maid’s reasoning, the princess couldn’t refuse her offer. Grateful for her presence, Anna nodded appreciatively before turning her attention to Anryr.

"My luggage is still in the carriage. Could you please arrange for it to be brought to the suite?" she requested.

"Ah... about that... His Highness has given specific instructions. He wishes for you to wear the new dresses that have been prepared. The old dresses won’t be necessary anymore, as you will meet His Majesty, the king. It is of utmost importance that you appear presentable for the audience," he explained, his tone filled with sincerity.

Anna’s brows furrowed slightly, her stature causing her to doubt the fit of the prepared dresses.

"Are you certain? As you can see, I have a rather small figure. Will the dresses fit me well?"

She couldn’t help but feel a tinge of regret for not purchasing a dress while visiting the plaza. The thought of having a garment explicitly tailored to her measurements seemed like a missed opportunity now.

Rosalie, the experienced chief maid, interjected as her eyes assessed Anna’s figure, "The prepared dresses are slightly larger. However, I am confident that I can make the necessary alterations so they would look impeccable on you," she assured with a warm smile.

Anryr chimed in, offering his support. "Rosalie possesses great skill in sewing and alterations. She will ensure the dress complements your appearance flawlessly," he added.

Accepting their explanations, Anna nodded appreciatively.

"Very well, then. Thank you both for your understanding and hospitality," she expressed sincerely.

"Then, I will leave you in Rosalie’s capable hands. Lunch is being prepared, and please ring the bell when you are ready. I will personally serve it for you," he informed.

"Is it possible to have lunch in the dining hall with the men? I would love to enjoy the company," Anna requested instead.

The steward readily agreed.

"Of course, my lady," Anryr acknowledged with a respectful nod. "I will inform them accordingly. Now, if you will excuse me."

With another graceful bow, he took his leave, leaving Anna to her own devices. She gestured a gracious farewell in response, appreciating his attentiveness and efficiency.

Rosalie, wearing a warm smile, extended her hand.

"Come, my lady. Allow me to assist you with your bath," she offered kindly, ready to fulfil her duties.

As an air of hunger filled the room, Drystan couldn’t help but voice his complaint.

"Urghh... I’m starving!"

His stomach growled in agreement, amplifying his hunger pangs. The table was adorned with various delectable dishes, tempting the knight’s senses. However, the main character, Anna, had yet to appear, keeping everyone waiting.

Feeling the temptation of the fried chicken placed enticingly before him, Drystan attempted to snatch a piece, only to have his hand swiftly slapped away by Rafe.

The healer’s stern voice filled the room, "Where are your manners, Sir Mills? We are not at the camp anymore! The lady has not yet arrived, and you dare to indulge before her presence!" Rafe’s reprimand emphasised the need for decorum in their current setting.

Observing the impolite behaviour of the knight, Alex shook his head in mild disappointment.

Drystan grumbled under his breath, his hunger growing more pronounced with each passing moment. Just then, the dining hall door swung open, revealing Anna, accompanied by Rosalie.

The men immediately rose from their seats to show their respect and greet her warmly. They suddenly held their breaths in awe as their eyes fell upon the captivating sight before them.

Standing there was a vision of loveliness—a petite lady adorned in a delicate purple gown accentuating her beauty.

The air seemed still as they found themselves enchanted by her presence. Drystan, in particular, couldn’t tear his gaze away, feeling captivated by the transformation he witnessed.

He had seen her before, at the camp, but never like this—radiant in a stunning gown that showcased her elegance.

"Forgive me for keeping you all waiting. I had to wait for the alterations on my dress to be completed before I could join you." Anna’s voice carried a hint of apology as she addressed the group.

"Ah, no worries, my lady. We’ve just gathered, and it hasn’t been long," said Rafe, smiling.

Drystan’s eyes widened in awe as he beheld Anna’s appearance. Unable to contain his delight, he offered his heartfelt praise.

"My lady, you look stunningly beautiful," he exclaimed, his admiration evident in his voice.

A warm smile graced his face, reflecting his genuine appreciation for Anna’s presence.

"Thank you, Sir Mills."

"Indeed, my lady, you have undergone a remarkable transformation," Alex acknowledged with admiration. The commander would undoubtedly be pleased to see you looking so gorgeous," he added, his words resonating with agreement from Rafe.

Expressing her gratitude for their kind words, Anna couldn’t help but feel a sense of appreciation for their genuine compliments.

Anna’s eyes scanned the room, her gaze falling upon the assistant healer’s non-appearance. Curiosity prompted her to ask, "Where’s Ayden?"

Rafe, quick to respond, provided an explanation, "He requested to rest in his room, my lady. He expressed his apologies for not being able to join us."

Understanding Ayden’s need for rest, Anna nodded sympathetically.

"That’s perfectly fine. He must be tired from the journey, and considering he hasn’t fully recovered yet, he should lay down," she acknowledged, showing her consideration for Ayden’s well-being.

Shifting her attention to Anryr, the steward, Anna made a request.

"Could you please ensure that Ayden is provided with some healthy food? It would aid in his recovery," she suggested, her caring nature shining through her words.

The steward responded promptly, "Certainly. I will make sure Mr Norman receives nourishing meals," he assured, quickly relaying the message to one of the available servants.

With the matter settled, Anryr pulled out a chair with gracious hospitality, extending an invitation to Anna.

"Please, my lady, have a seat," he offered, allowing her to sit comfortably for the meal.

As the company settled down, the lunch commenced, and the room was filled with the delightful sounds of cutlery and friendly conversation. Anryr and Rosalie attentively stood by with some other servants, ensuring their guests’ needs were promptly met.

The delectable main course disappeared from the plates with surprising speed, leaving behind satisfaction among them.

Soon after, a tempting assortment of desserts made its appearance, captivating Anna’s sweet tooth. A thrill of anticipation washed over her as she realised it had been far too long since she had indulged in such treats.

The princess’s face lit up with delight as she sampled the desserts before her. The flavours danced upon her palate, eliciting a chorus of praise from her lips. She revelled in the moment, savouring each bite with pure enjoyment.

Amidst the pleasant chatter, Anna’s observant gaze detected an intriguing absence, a curiosity that had lingered in her mind since she had crossed the threshold of the mansion.

Unable to contain it any longer, she posed a question that weighed on her thoughts.

"Anryr...," she called out.

"Yes, my lady," the ever-attentive steward quickly responded.

"May I ask why there isn’t any portrait of His Highness?"
