Chapter 472: Besties
Chapter 472: Chapter 472: Besties
"Yang Yu, my bestie is back from abroad with her boyfriend. Come hang out," Shen Silin called, "I hear you’re good at fortune-telling; she wants me to have you take a look at her boyfriend, see if he’s worth committing to for life."
"Your bestie I might be willing to meet, but don’t get your hopes up about the fortune-telling stuff," Yang Yu said, "When it comes to matters of the heart, my standard advice is, if there’s doubt, it’s time to bail."
"You’re unbelievable," Shen Silin laughed, "Can’t you ever be serious?"
"I am being serious," Yang Yu replied helplessly, "Once a woman starts to doubt and looks for external validation about her boyfriend’s reliability, it’s a sign she’s already lost faith in the relationship. Why wait? Break up now, though it’s almost the New Year... sure, might as well wait until next year."
"Haha..." Shen Silin was amused by Yang Yu, "When did you learn to be such a smartass?"
"I’m always cheeky, just never to my own folks," Yang Yu said, "Where are we meeting?"
"At the club," Shen Silin replied, "You haven’t been here in a long while. Remember, you’re still under contract with us!"
"Be there soon." Yang Yu hung up and immediately headed to the Silver Horse Club.
Yang Yu met Shen Silin’s bestie, Ning Zhixin, and her boyfriend, Leiden, at the club’s tea room.
Ning Zhixin was the epitome of an internet celebrity beauty, with a "snaked" face and exaggerated curves; it was hard for Yang Yu not to wonder which part of her hadn’t been under the knife.
Leiden was the typical European man with big blue eyes and a prominent aquiline nose, a size larger than the average joe, and very masculine.
Compared to Ning Zhixin, Leiden seemed to be a naturally handsome guy.
Seeing Yang Yu arrive, Ning Zhixin stood up and reached out her hand, "You’re Yang Yu, right? Hello."
"Hello." Yang Yu shook hands with Ning Zhixin, then sat down.
Leiden, though, remained seated and expressionless, as if he hadn’t noticed Yang Yu’s arrival.
Ning Zhixin apologized with a full face, "I’m sorry, Yang Yu. Leiden is just like that, not a fan of socializing..."
"It’s not that I don’t like socializing. I just don’t like wasting time on unworthy people," Leiden said in English. Yang Yu responded in Xia Guoyu, "Miss Ning, I apologize for wasting your boyfriend’s time. However, I’d also like to offer him a piece of advice: Weakness and ignorance are not obstacles to survival, but arrogance is."
"Heh," Leiden understood but wasn’t offended, merely let out a sardonic laugh.
He thought talking to Yang Yu was a complete waste of time.
Ning Zhixin could only smile bitterly, turning the topic elsewhere, "Selin, I didn’t see you for three years and never expected you to have managed this club so well. I heard about the Silver Horse Club even overseas, and many friends who visit Tianhai City like to come here."
"Just making a living," Shen Silin answered modestly, "Tell us about you. Are you back for a wedding?"
"Of course not," Leiden said in Xia Yyu, "If we marry, it must be in Britain, not a backward place like Xia Country. All my relatives are nobility; letting them come to Xia Country for a wedding would risk dirtying their shoes."
Shen Silin was speechless; how had her bestie ended up with such an arrogant jerk?
Ning Zhixin was mortified, "Leiden, you promised you wouldn’t say such things."
"I’m not speaking out of turn, I’m just saying what’s on my mind," Leiden didn’t think he was in the wrong, "I’m simply honest, not hypocritical like you Xia people."
"Heh." Yang Yu really couldn’t be bothered to argue, considering the guy an idiot.
After all, who argues with a fool?
If he could tolerate it, he would; if not, a slap would shut the guy up.
"Leiden, didn’t you have a mission from your family on coming to Xia Country?" Ning Zhixin asked, "We’re strangers here in Tianhai City. We rely on Selin and her fiancé to make connections. How can you afford to be so arrogant?"
"It’s a minor issue," Leiden claimed, "Once they know I’m from the British nobility, the Klopus Family, won’t that whatever Chairman of the Tianhai Business Alliance personally come out to greet me?"
"Ah, so you’re here to meet the Chairman of the Tianhai Business Alliance," Yang Yu said with a slight smile, "I know him, but based on what I know about him, he really hates it when people show off in front of him. Doesn’t matter where you’re from, even if you were a king, he wouldn’t give a damn."
"Ha, in my view, what you Xia people call pride is nothing but a negotiation tactic," Leiden said confidently, "As long as the benefits are right, I don’t believe there are that many principled Xia people. I’ve seen plenty of prideful Xia people in Britain, and in the end, they all kneel before the Klopus Family, hahaha..."
Leiden laughed ostentatiously, his mouth wide open, almost inviting someone to stuff a slipper in it.
"Really?" Yang Yu smiled lightly, "Miss Ning, didn’t you research in advance who you were going to deal with back in Xia Country?"
"No," Ning Zhixin shook her head, "Firstly, I thought asking you would be enough, secondly, Leiden said there was no need. We’d present the contracts at the meeting. He doesn’t believe anyone would turn down such a lucrative market like Britain."
"Okay, you can go back now," Yang Yu smiled slightly, "We too want to make money, but the thing is, some people think they’re doing us a favor. That kind of money, we’d rather not make."
"What do you mean?" Leiden glared, "I came to meet Chairman Yang of the Tianhai Yang’s Alliance, not you. Who are you to make decisions for him?"
"You don’t know the full name of Chairman Yang?" Yang Yu took out his business card and handed it to Ning Zhixin and Leiden, "Let me formally introduce myself, I am the person you’re looking for, Yang Yu."
Ning Zhixin and Leiden were dumbstruck at the sight of Yang Yu’s business card.
Looking at Shen Silin incredulously, Ning Zhixin said, "Selin, you just told me your fiancé Yang Yu was a small businessman, why didn’t you straight-up tell me he’s the Chairman of the Tianhai Business Alliance?"
"Compared to such a distinguished British noble like Leiden, Yang Yu’s status hardly seems worth mentioning. To do so would seem rather competitive," Shen Silin smiled, "We’re good friends, besties, there’s no need for one-upmanship, right?"
Ning Zhixin was utterly embarrassed. If only Leiden hadn’t been so arrogant, and they’d researched Chairman Yang’s real name beforehand, they would have avoided this mortification!
