Chapter 272: 5.01.4 A day in my life.
A foolish and direct man who blurts out whatever is in his head. Can it be hurtful to some? Absolutely.
He was a foolish young man who didn’t think how his words might affect others or how his actions might be seen in the eyes of others due to his lack of social perception.
All of this makes him a foolish boy who is easy to get along with if you get used to his words because in truth, he didn’t wish to be hurtful, nor would a person like this hold out on any secrets or have any ulterior motives behind his actions.
A safe guy to make friends with if you wish, as in most cases, due to his lacking nature, he probably won’t find anything odd if a friend were to do anything suspicious around him. It’s probably why Rashid became friends with him and usually stays alongside this guy.
Rashid really must consider him harmless, it’s why among all the friends he had made, Rashid stays with Henry the most.
But why stay with him at all? I wonder if Rashid coming here has something to do with Henry.
Was Henry someone important though?
I tried hard to think about it and can only remember that his father belonged to the Church of Root and Harvest. Specifically, his borrowed bloodline belonged to one of the totems of the church. Whose name I don’t recall, but it has something to do with some lamb.
Which would explain his soft and curly hair. Probably an effect of his bloodline in some weird way.
But there were many such Knight families in the city. And unlike other places, not everyone worked for the government.
As this country was built on a republic, there was a senate that handled the matters and most of these senate members were backed by giant business conglomerates who were the true rulers of this land and where most Knights were concentrated at.
And Henry’s father was the same. Working for Kilde And Son’s, a ship-building company based right in this very city. Which made him one of the rare kids who were lucky enough to still have his father at home.
Probably why he was so simple and different compared to most of the other kids here.
"My step-father chose it for me..." I explained to the boy, all a front to explain why my name sounded so weird and in case someone among these people got curious and followed me home, or if Rashid got curious and sent someone to check up on me.
Well, I have all defenses built already, no one would find anything odd in my background.
"You got a good dad," Henry spoke before pointing toward others. "Just come and join us.. It will be fun."
He kept pushing me, and I wondered how long I would be able to refuse. Then again, I put on an act of a weak personality, it was why I was easily bullied by others. So in this case, I could only nod and accept the invitation from him.
Well, whatever.
When I originally wished to complete the mission and made all sorts of careful coincidences to meet and join Rashid’s group, none of them actually worked and backfired, turning me into a social outcast.
But now, when I was intent on leaving this boring mission, I joined his friend’s group.
What luck. If not for my intent to leave this mission, I would have boasted about this to my boss. But keeping quiet seems to be the better option.
Can’t let them think I am progressing in any way.
And well, that’s how my eventful day ended.
Though while going home, I did hear some scathing words about me talked under hushed voices, which made me want to smile a bit.
But it’s enough, for not at least. It’s time to go back to the Zoo and do what the master taught me.
I might have his bloodline now, but besides the broken form of a cow, which I actually regret when thinking about, I need to copy some other animals as well.
The primary contender was a monkey, whose blood was easy to get from Boss, but getting a live one and learning from it would be harder, as none in Boss’s hideout wished to babysit a monkey.
Not to mention, captive animals barely acted in their natural manner. So it would be useless anyway.
As for going out of the city to practice?
This was not like my old city with an intricate metro system, so forgot about traversing long distances in a day easily. Going out in a monkey habitat would make it impossible for me to do the mission.
Leaving me no choice but to depend on a zoo.
"Boy, you are here again?"
"Yes sir, how is Chiki? Still not well?"
"Well, the other monkeys keep harassing it whenever we take him out of the cage, so nothing can be done at the moment."
This was the usual scenario when a new monkey was introduced to an established community of monkeys, they broke into fights and needed time to integrate with each other.
And let me tell you, there is a lot of Poop Flinging involved during this process. And I have been a victim to it.
"Hah, let me handle the matter, looks like those bastards haven’t learned their lesson yet."
"... this early? There are still some visitors in the park, do it later."
"Don’t worry, I will wear the employee uniform."
"This..."
"Mister, you shouldn’t forget how much I paid you."
"Hah, just go and walk to the right, you might fight some spares."
The man whose name was a bit troublesome for me to spell was not some simple worker, but the manager of this park. And it took a bit of money for him to overlook how I used his facilities, and not ask any questions while I did it.
His only condition was for me to not leave any mark or things behind when I was done, which was understandable, as my request sounded odd to him, and considering how odd requests are followed by curses and rituals, he probably put such a condition to make sure that I don’t bring any harm to this place.
Which was not odd, considering not anyone would be able to sit in a managerial position.
"Hey Chiki, still eating shit for breakfast?" I asked over the shivering monkey who was trying to sleep in the cage after his recent bath.
But it was only midday at the moment, why waste his time sleeping when he could live in the world like me?
So I went ahead and explained to the worker who was overlooking the area what I was there for and showed him the manager’s card. He nodded as if he didn’t care and let Chiki out like usual.
But Chiki stayed in the cage, refusing to go out as it swiped at my hands. "Feeling naughty are we?" I spoke before grabbing the monkey by his leg and dragging him out forcefully. "Staying inside won’t do you good, it might be safe, but it’s boring being alone as well."
With those words, I ignored his swipes by grabbing both of his hands tightly and said. "Not so soon, do it when I am learning."
I took him into the arena which might doom Chiki with death if there was no one to protect him, and then threw him to the beasts.
"Rise and shine monkeys! I brought you presents." And then, I hid, watching from the darkness how Chiki suffered again and again until it was no longer capable of struggling. Some of these attracted the visitors who came with their families and enjoyed such a sad show of monkeys grouping up on a single one of their kind.
Some wondered what was happening while others considered calling for Zoo security, but most of them seemed to enjoy this play.
As one shouldn’t forget, this was a Zoo and most of the time, the animals just lived casually, it was harder for them to see a monkey in his natural element emitting violence against its own kind.
’Violence... I can do it too.’ A thought appeared in my head for a bit. But I knew, this was enough for now.
I got in and saved poor Chiki before he suffered any serious injuries, before explaining to the audience what just happened. "Just integration fellas, it takes time to get used to newbies..."
A big explanation as I sent Chiki to the vet, while I got busy with my regular mimicry again. Learning and living among these monkeys who seemed to fear me, which was actually really wrong. As my master has said, I need to become part of their family.
I need to think like a monkey, move like a monkey, and speak like a monkey, only then would the mimicry take place.
It makes me sad that why didn’t I just rip out a monkey’s face before, instead of that cow? If I had known that I would gain the ability to turn into a cow during that ceremony, I would have chosen some other animal, but never this.
Hell, what if I found one of those legendary dragons? Who knows if the Master of Bothal might have given me a piece of his Ride’s face?
Who knows if I could turn into a dragon-like that?
Hah, I hate it so much. Master should have told me about it, then I wouldn’t be here suffering like this.
With such thoughts, the day ended and I was back home, taking care of my Master’s and doing some homework from school. "
