Chapter 36: conversations with Ash

Chapter 36: conversations with Ash

"Gabriel, do you know when Violet’s birthday is?" Ash asked sitting on the couch across from Gabriel.

"No. Why?" Gabriel responded not looking up from his paperwork and laptop on his desk. His office was clean, neat and filled with bookshelves that had rows and rows of books on different disease and medicine from all different ages. Gabriel ran a pharmaceutical company, one that mainly dealt with citizens of the night and the half breeds, but also dealt with some of the human’s too. Since coming out to the humans they’ve been able to market more products some they found helped humans, so as of late, Gabriel had been very busy with new contracts and trials. Violet’s birthday had completely slipped his mind, especially because him and his brothers haven’t celebrated a birthday since the year Ash’s mom died.

"Because it’s in a few days?" Ash answered.

"..." Gabriel responded with silence, focusing on the contract for a diabetic medication.

"Gabriel, come on." Ash was getting annoyed. Gabriel was the head of their family for now, but Ash was the strongest and most unpredictable of the brothers, really testing his limits was a gamble, most wouldn’t make.

"Ash, I don’t know what you want me to say, but I’ve got a lot of work that needs my attention, so just get to the point." Gabriel said sternly.

"I want us to do something for her. Nothing crazy big, but maybe ask her ridiculous father to come." Ash answered.

"Well, I don’t care, just you handle it, I’m busy. But I’ll leave my assistant available for you for use at your discretion, now if you’d please get out now, I’d appreciate it." Gabriel said ending the conversation as quickly as it started.

Ash rolled his eyes and left. He’d go find Oliver. Cause at least he’s not a complete piece of shit that doesn’t care.

Oliver was in his room sitting at his computer desk, Oliver was working on a new game, inspired by Violet and her racing and shooter game abilities. He wanted to make a game with more attractive female characters, and put them in guns and cars together. There weren’t enough games that targeted a female audience. His bosses were doubting the games success and ability to make a profit. But Oliver would prove them wrong.

Oliver hears a knock on the door.

"I’m coming in." Ash said.

"I didn’t say it was okay." Oliver said as he turned around "I could have been masturbating and that would have been really awkward, now wouldn’t it."

"Don’t be gross, it’s Violet’s birthday soon, what are we doing?" Ash ignored Oliver’s

statement.

"A birthday? We still celebrate those?" Oliver asked sarcastically.

"F*ckin’ A man can’t you be serious?" Ash was already getting annoyed. Did everyone just want to push his buttons?

"Calm down man, lighten up a little." Oliver said "I’ll just get her a gift. That’s more than I can say for you four."

"Hear me out, she was talking on the phone to Rosa..." Ash was saying but Oliver cutting him off.

"Were you ease dropping? Little brother?" Knowing teasing Ash when he’s aggravated is poking a a bear, he did it anyways.

"Oliver don’t make me f*ckim hit you." Ash’s patience was quickly wearing thin, he didn’t sleep well this morning and had been up since mid afternoon. Ash had missed her so he went to wait by her door. That’s when he hear about her birthday.

"Fine, fine. What about a party?" Oliver suggested.

"That’s what I suggested to Gabriel and he said we can use his assistant, but that’s it" Ash said.

"Well as expected, Gabriel is ever so helpful, isn’t he" Oliver joked again.

"A party sounds good" Jeremy said as he was walking through the doorway, "it’s been awhile since we celebrated any birthday."

"You’re surprisingly talkative about this." Oliver said raising an eyebrow at Jeremy’s unusual

self inclusion.

"I don’t know what you mean." Jeremy’s voice never fails to find the perfect unconcern and disconnected tone anyone could have.

"A party’s a great idea. Let’s do it." Oliver said clapping his hands before standing. "When’s her birthday anyways?"

"In 10 days according to Violet’s conversation early." Ash answered now taking a seat in Oliver’s sitting area.

Were you ease dropping on Violet, Ash?" Jeremy said surprised by his information.

"Fuck off, Jeremy." Ash growled.

"What? Are you embarrassed to answer?" Jeremy was teasing Ash now.

"No, that’s just not. What I was doing!" Ash snapped "Can we just plan the damn thing or I’m leaving."

"Slow down there man, we’re just playing with you, no need to get all pissy." Oliver said laughing at how easy it is to rile up Ash.

"I’ll just figure shit out on my own, fuck you guys." Ash said getting up to leave.

Oliver rushes over and stands in front of the door. "Now, now, don’t be like that. We’ll take it seriously come on."

"Move" Ash growled.

"No, go sit down quit being immature." Oliver said pointing at the empty chair he occupied

before.

"Whatever." Ash goes and sits back in his chair.

"So birthday party. Ideas?" Ash said trying again.

"I can ask Rosa." Oliver chimed in.

"But do we want it to be a surprise party or what?" Jeremy started asking a lot of

questions:

"Who are her friends even?"

"Do we invite her family?"

"Most of our classmates aren’t her friends, they’re more like enemies."

"Do we know her favorite foods?"

"What kind of things she likes?"

"Slow down Jeremy, shit, I can’t keep up." Oliver said interrupting Jeremy’s overwhelming amount of questions "One at a time, what was the first one?"

"Are we wanting to do a surprise party?" Ash asked.

"I don’t think we should exclude her, I think she’s rather be apart of it with us." Jeremy answered with his opinion.

"You sick or something? Did you do any drugs?" Oliver really shocked by Jeremy’s intense interest in this.

"What are you even talking about?" Jeremy rolled his eyes at Olivers ridiculousness.

"You being, so, talkative. I think this is most I’ve heard you speak to us without Violet in, fuck, I don’t know, childhood?" Ash answered.

"You’re one to talk, you’ve also started speaking up more." Oliver said pointing at Ash, "I think Violet as had a really positive effect on you guys."

"And what about you, big brother?" Jeremy had a mischievous smile, breaking his usual stoic aura.

"Me? Well, I was already perfect, there’s nothing for her to change." Oliver laughed, Jeremy socked him in the arm. "I’m kidding, I don’t know maybe, I’m not as mean, I feel like I’m nicer. But that’s all you’re getting out of me."

The three of them discuss Violates birthday for about an hour and decide they will tell Violet and have her help with her birthday party.

And head to her room.
