The General's Wife Wants to Leave -
Chapter 266: Red on the white
Chapter 266: Red on the white
After waiting for more than two hours, she found her hope of her young lady being healthy almost collapsed when, through the door of her room that she left open, she caught sight of her young lady appearing but being carried by her husband and wrapped in a thick blanket.
She was utterly shocked, immediately ran to her, and quickly asked if she was sick but soon felt relief wash over her when her young lady, who had just been put on the ground by her husband once they entered the room, calmly said that she was fine.
Yet her relief instantly dissipated, as when she looked closely, her young lady’s countenance was worse compared to last night when she attended to her before she left her room to call it a day.
After the General reluctantly left the room, following the persistent persuasion of her young lady for him to do something more useful instead of accompanying her, she could not hold back but let out a loud gasp when the blanket that covered her young lady’s body was removed. Her eyes caught something red on the white blanket, which was undoubtedly blood.
Moving her gaze toward the source of the blood that came from, based on the position of the blood on the blanket, before another gasp let out by her and her mind wandering around several possibilities that caused the blood to appear, her young lady quickly closed her mouth shut with her explanation. "I am on my period."
It was then she took a sigh of relief, as she did not need to push aside impoliteness in order to reproach the General for being a rough and not gentle husband in dealing with his wife’s first time.
She was also utterly relieved because her young lady was finally having her period after four months of absence, which was longer than the absence she ever had.
It was a condition that was only known by her. Her young lady looked healthy, but her constitution as a woman seemed to be weak. Her period was irregular.
She knew about that because she was the one who had been greatly involved in nurturing her since she was a little girl. She was also with her young lady when she got her first period, which could be considered to be late compared to the normality it should have.
After her first period, she got the second one about two months later. It was then she noticed that she had a condition that was uncommon to women in general. Therefore, it was hard to predict when her period would come, though there were times there were no months skipped after the previous one.
There was an intention to inform the young lady’s father of her uncommon condition, but the young lady did not allow her to. She reasoned that she was afraid to make her father worry, and she did not want to be examined by the doctors, who mostly happened to be males.
Bianca followed her young lady’s demand not only because of that sole reason but also due to another important condition that made her less worried about her young lady’s health and also her probability to conceive. It was because her young lady’s mother had the same constitution as her, yet she could conceive and was blessed with two beautiful children.
She knew about that matter because Lady Alenna herself had told her before her breath was no longer with her, saying that she did not have to panic if her daughter happened to have a similar condition as her when she grew up. Because of this as well, Bianca wondered if the Duke already knew about his daughter’s condition but never asked her anything about that.
She was firstly surprised yet deeply touched when she was told about a matter that she could say was personal by the madam. But then Bianca knew why the madam shared such important information. It was because the madam put her trust in her to take care of her sole daughter, a little girl who would grow up without the presence of her mother.
And she was immensely grateful to meet the little girl and had the chance of a lifetime to witness her grow to be a beautiful lady who was kind and gentle in temper, just like her beloved mother.
Hence, she could not bear seeing her curling on the bed, enduring the pain that kicked her stomach every time she was on her period.
Bianca did not know whether the pain was like the pain she felt every time her period regularly came to her. But compared to her young lady, she was fine to do her activities during the first three days of her period, as that was the moment when the pain hit a lot.
"I am fine, Bianca. It is not the first time I have had my period, is it?" A smile thinly spread across Joanna’s enduring-pain face. "So, you may leave me here and continue doing what you need to do," Joanna suggested to Bianca, who had accompanied her since she returned to her room.
As she had chores that she indeed needed to do, either her daily routine or the tasks that were just entrusted to her, one of which was cleaning up the General’s room, particularly the bed, Bianca said, "I will come back and bring more hot water later, my lady." With a weak nod and smile from Joanna as a response, Bianca left Joanna’s room half-heartedly with a tray of an empty small bowl of porridge and an empty glass of milk. She also did not forget to bring a cloth bag of the dirty blanket and nightgown.
Alone in her room, Joanna winced in pain when the cramp hit her stomach. It was the thing that she did not like when she was on her period, yet she was in much concern, counting the days, when she missed her period for months.
Just when she was about to turn to lie on the other side of her body, a crisp laughter was heard from outside her room, drifted by the gentle breeze that streamed in through the window that was slightly drawn open by Bianca.
Groaning lowly, Joanna pushed her body to sit on the bed. With her brows furrowed, she looked in the direction where the window of her room was located.
In her current condition, she would tend to ignore anything at the moment, and she would have ignored that laughter if it was not the sound of someone that she recognized.
Joanna got off the bed to walk across toward the window. There she clutched the curtain that had been pulled open when her gaze fell on the sight that came from Alenna Garden.
