Chapter 92: The WW Tournament Begins

Chapter 92: The WW Tournament Begins

Alex opened his eyes, the world still and quiet around him.

Through the glass window, moonlight spilled into the room, casting everything in a cold, soothing glow.

He slowly got to his feet, stretching lightly. His eyes drifted to the bed, where Hati was curled up, softly snoring.

As Alex approached, Hati stirred, opening his eyes and lifting his head. Their eyes met.

Alex smiled gently.

"Are you hungry, Hati?" he asked warmly.

Hati’s ears perked up, and he gave a soft bark, "Woof! Woof!"

He padded over to Alex, tail wagging, circling him excitedly.

Alex chuckled.

"Yes, yes, we’re going to eat. I’m hungry too."

They made their way through the quiet corridors to the cafeteria.

It was nearly empty, bathed in a calm, late-night silence. Only a dim light shone from the private room and the serving counter.

As they approached, a middle-aged man with tired eyes, dark circles, and a white chef’s uniform leaned behind the counter. A traditional chef hat sat slightly tilted on his head.

Alex smiled politely.

"Hello, sir."

The chef gave a weary nod, leaning forward.

"Hello, kid. What do you want to eat?"

Alex didn’t hesitate.

"Just a chicken sandwich for me. And for my companion—" he motioned to Hati.

"Woof! Woof!" Hati barked cheerfully as if placing his own order.

The chef raised an eyebrow, smiling.

"What’s he saying?"

Alex scratched the back of his head awkwardly.

"Ah... he’s saying he wants steak."

The chef chuckled, intrigued.

"A Wolf with taste, huh? Alright then, I’ll bring your food right away."

He disappeared into the kitchen. About ten minutes later, he returned with a juicy steak and a warm chicken sandwich, both steaming with aroma.

Alex’s eyes lit up.

"Can I... also have some milk?" he asked, a little shy.

The chef laughed heartily.

"Sure, kid."

Alex paid 2 credits for the delicious meal and gave a polite bow.

"Thank you, sir."

As he sat down, his mind wandered.

I have a thousand credits left... Will that be enough?

I haven’t even received my mission rewards yet. Should’ve been another thousand... I’ll have to ask Teacher Emilia. So many questions—

I just hope I remember them all.

In the quiet of the night, Alex and Hati ate their food in peace, undisturbed. The steak sizzled on the plate as Hati carefully savoured each bite. Alex enjoyed his sandwich slowly, letting the flavours soak into the silence.

Just then, two figures emerged from the private room—a girl and a boy.

The girl was strikingly beautiful, her blue eyes as serene as a lake. The boy’s violet eyes glowed faintly, cutting through the dim cafeteria lights. His arm rested casually around her waist as they walked out together, laughing softly, oblivious to everything else.

Alex’s gaze followed them briefly before he looked down at the sandwich in his hand. He lifted it up to eye level with a mock-serious expression.

"Are you my true love?" he asked quietly.

There was no reply, of course.

He bit into the sandwich, chewed slowly, and smiled.

"Yes... yes, you are."

Far away from the peaceful hum of the cafeteria...

In the Noctshade Club Hall, where shadows seemed to breathe and shift like living things, the moonlight crept in through tall windows, casting a dim glow across the wide floor and making the space feel even more ominous.

Figures cloaked in black stood on the raised platform like soldiers of the night. At their front, a tall man with broad shoulders stood still—a king surveying his army.

Click-clack.

The sharp sound of high heels echoed through the hall.

A girl emerged from the darkness, her leather-clad arm blending into the shadows, as if she was darkness itself.

Meika Noctshade stepped forward and stood behind Ethan Noctshade, her older brother.

His frown deepened. His dark eyes flashed with fury.

Without turning, he said in a sharp, edged voice,

"Are you sure you want to be Vice-Captain?"

Meika answered confidently,

"Yes. It’s your last year. I’ll have to take care of the club next year anyway."

Ethan clenched his fists, jaw tight.

"Then take responsibility properly. Father won’t save you here."

Unshaken by his warning, Meika stepped past him and faced the club members.

Her dark eyes scanned the crowd as she smiled.

"I’ll be your Vice-Captain from now on. I want us to win the tournament."

Then her smile vanished, replaced by intensity.

"Don’t disappoint me."

Back to our relaxed guy:

Alex stood up after dramatically expressing his undying love for a sandwich and strolled toward his dorm room, with Hati quietly trailing behind like a loyal shadow.

Time Skip...

June 3 – Elimination Round of the WW Tournament

Alex groggily opened his eyes, still half-asleep.

With a hoarse mumble, he muttered,

"Captain has no mercy... I can still feel phantom pain where her katana landed..."

He shuffled to the sink to freshen up, then glanced outside. The sky was still gray—dawn hadn’t fully arrived.

With a big yawn, he called out,

"Hati, wake up! If we’re even a little late, no food. We’ve got an early match today."

Hati perked up his ears, stretched, and gracefully hopped down from the bed. Without a word, he trotted into the washroom and returned a few minutes later.

Alex blinked in confusion, staring at him.

"Wait... when did you start using the washroom?"

"Woof," Hati barked proudly, lifting his head as if to say, "I’m the king of wolves."

Alex stared at him with a deadpan expression.

"You’re a dog."

With that, he sprinted out of the dorm.

Hati barked in angry protest, growling as he chased after him.

"I can’t hear you! I can’t hear you!" Alex shouted playfully as he ran.

He finally slowed down as they reached the cafeteria. The smell of fresh food hit Hati like a gust of heaven, and all previous offenses were forgotten. Drooling, he bolted ahead of Alex to the counter.

The cafeteria aunty, wearing her signature apron and kind smile, looked down at him.

"Oh, you’re quite early today," she said warmly. "I’ll get you boys something good and healthy."

Alex reached the counter and greeted cheerfully,

"Good morning, Aunty Chef."

"Good morning to you too, dear," she replied warmly, then disappeared into the kitchen.

A few moments later, she returned with a tray holding a steaming cup of coffee, half-fried eggs, and shallow-fried chicken drumsticks.

Alex gratefully picked up the tray and walked to a corner table.

Hati, eyes gleaming with excitement, stared at the chicken legs like they were treasures from heaven—and promptly dug in.

After finishing breakfast, the two left the cafeteria and made their way through the garden toward the back of the castle. The morning air was cool, filled with the scent of dew and distant flowers.

After a short walk, they came across colossal circular walls that seemed to stretch up and scrape the sky, surrounded by tall trees that swayed gently in the wind. Multiple stone paths from different directions converged at its massive gates, with groups of people steadily arriving.

Alex stepped through a towering doorway and entered a vast open area: a stadium-like arena, with a sea of seats encircling the centre. The central platform was massive and divided into several smaller WW Grounds, each surrounded by shimmering energy barriers that pulsed faintly with power.

He moved toward the nearest platform, his eyes scanning the scene.

Nearby, a group of umpires stood out clearly—dressed in white t-shirts and black pants. Bold black letters on the back of each shirt read:

"UMPIRE"

They stood in a relaxed group, chatting and laughing as they prepared for the elimination rounds.

Alex sat down on a nearby chair and muttered,

"Looks like we’re quite early. Captain Darian made fools of us."

He pulled his knees close, wrapping his arms around them.

"It’s cold, right, Hati?"

Hati gave a small, tired growl in agreement and curled up at Alex’s feet like a furry heater.

As time passed, the arena gradually filled. Students arrived with their families, some in loud groups, others in hushed anticipation. Supporters carried signs, flags, and even club emblems painted on their faces. The energy steadily grew.

As the sun rose and bathed the arena in its golden warmth, the Rebel Club finally arrived—and immediately spotted a shivering, huddled Alex.

"Hahaha! You’re really early, my genius dasher!"

Captain Darian laughed as he walked over, his voice echoing through the early buzz of the stadium.

Alex glared up at him, clearly annoyed.

"I’m never trusting your timing again."

The team burst into laughter.

Darian walked behind Alex and gave him a solid slap on the back—hard enough to knock the air out of his lungs.

"Don’t be so serious!" he said, grinning.

Alex wheezed, eyes wide,

"You’re gonna kill me before the match starts..."

Just then, Tina arrived, arms crossed and expression sharp.

"Be ready. For our first match, it will start soon." she announced sternly.

"What?!"

All team members shouted in unison, voices filled with panic.

Her crimson eyes glowed with intensity as she stared them down.

"We have four matches today. If we win all of them, we move on to the main round. If we lose even one... we’re stuck here."
