Chapter 105: The Truth of Our Mother — A Past Drenched in Blood and Love
Chapter 105: The Truth of Our Mother — A Past Drenched in Blood and Love
Alex remained silent, eyes fixed on her, waiting.
She exhaled slowly, calming herself before speaking.
"Your mother—my sister—was the talented heir of our Seraph family. She made a name for herself across all ten clans while still in her first year at the academy. Everyone knew her. Admired her."
She paused, her voice distant with memory.
"Heirs from most of the ten clans came to our doors, hoping to get engaged to her. But she rejected them. My mother—the Matriarch at the time—and our grandmother, the previous Matriarch, both supported her right to choose."
Serene gave a faint, sad smile.
"My own mother had married for love. A brilliant man from a lesser noble house. So she wanted her daughter—your mother—to have the same freedom."
Her expression darkened.
"But things don’t always go the way we want them to." She leaned back, voice tight. "My father... got trapped in an SS-ranked danger zone controlled by the Noctshade clan. They refused to help unless we gave them something in return."
Alex’s brow furrowed.
Serene’s tone grew heavy. "To save him, a deal was struck. A political engagement. Your mother’s engagement... arranged without her consent. She didn’t even know about it."
She sighed deeply, as realization struck her
"Now I understand... he was behind it all."
Serene continued "But fate had other plans," she said. "Your mother... fell in love. With your father. A man the world called talentless."
"They met in secret, over and over. And when she finally learned about her arranged engagement... she defied everything. She married your father in secret. Not long after, she became pregnant with you."
Alex’s eyes widened slightly.
"Your father was loved by the Void Sage—your grandfather. When he told the Sage everything, the old man stood by him. He brought your parents into his home, protected them."
Her gaze hardened. "Of course, the Seraph clan protested. The Noctshade clan was furious. They demanded retribution. The matter was brought before the Council of Ten Clans."
Serene looked Alex in the eye.
"But your grandfather... the Void Sage himself... was a Council member too. And no one dared to oppose him. He was the master of space, one of the most feared and respected beings alive."
Alex replied, his voice sharp and laced with annoyance.
"What does any of that have to do with me? I’m not Veylor—not anymore."
Serene sighed, patient but visibly strained.
"I’m getting to what is related to you. Just... be patient."
Before Alex could interrupt, she pressed on.
"Your parents lived in the Veylor clan for a few years. You were just a child. Little Anna was born during that time. My sister... she was truly happy." Her voice softened for a moment. "But everything changed before Anna’s birth. The Void Sage—your grandfather—died. Mysteriously."
Serene’s eyes darkened.
"After that, my mother and grandmother went to your mother and gave her an ultimatum. Return to the Seraph clan, and her family would be spared. Refuse... and all of you would die."
She paused, letting the weight of the words settle.
"That was also what the Noctshade clan wanted. So... your mother made the impossible choice. She left her family and surrendered herself. She was imprisoned in the Seraph clan’s dungeons."
Alex’s fists clenched.
"But she didn’t know that after she left, your father was exiled from the Veylor clan. The elders removed him. A new heir was chosen." Serene’s voice was low now. "You were the heir... appointed personally by the Void Sage. That gave your mother hope. She thought, as long as you held that position, her family would be safe."
Silence fell, thick and suffocating.
Alex stared at the ground, lost in thought, before his eyes narrowed.
"Then who killed them? My family. I know someone controlled those monsters that night. That wasn’t a random attack."
Serene hesitated, her fingers fidgeting again.
"I don’t know for certain. But I suspect both the Seraph and Noctshade clans. And... I think even the Veylor clan was involved."
She raised a hand before he could react.
"Wait—before you say anything, let me finish."
Alex leaned back, tension in his posture, but waited.
Serene took a deep breath, and continued.
"As I said, your mother was taken back to the Seraph clan. She’s been imprisoned ever since..."
Her voice broke, eyes shimmering with tears.
"Then... my mother and grandmother died. Suddenly."
She swallowed hard.
"I went to tell your mother about Anna and your father’s deaths. That was the first time she stepped out of her self-imposed prison."
Her voice turned bitter, furious.
"But my father—the devil—he... he used a taboo ritual. Turned both my mother and grandmother into puppets."
Her fists clenched, knuckles turned white.
"They attacked us. Me and your mother."
She gritted her teeth, trembling with rage.
"I only escaped because your mother protected me. Fought them off. But she was captured again. And now I know... he was behind all of it. Every. Last. Thing."
Alex couldn’t comprehend it all. His brain short-circuited under the weight of what he’d just heard.
So much was unravelling beneath the surface—
Anger.
Confusion.
Grief.
Overwhelmed, he shut everything down. He leaned back, threw his head against the cushion, and closed his eyes.
Serene didn’t say a word. She simply waited—silent, still—for his response.
Moments passed before Alex leaned forward again. Tears slid down from the corners of his eyes, tracing quiet lines down his face. He locked eyes with Serene.
"Is Mother alive... or dead?"
Serene answered instantly.
"She’s alive. But... I don’t know when he’ll begin the experiments."
Alex took a breath. He nodded slowly, gathering himself.
"Then when are we going to rescue her?"
Serene shot up from her seat, startled.
"WHAT?!"
Alex stayed calm, almost too calm.
"That’s obvious, isn’t it? You told me all this because we’re going to save her. Right?"
Serene stared at him, stunned. Then she sat down again, slowly, almost collapsing into the seat.
"Yes," she murmured. "We are. I’ll tell you when it’s time to move. One of my men is keeping an eye on Big Sister."
He stepped out of Serene’s room and into the hallway, the door clicking softly shut behind him.
In his mind, a storm had already begun to break.
White Alex collapsed to his knees, sobbing.
"Our mother loved us... She never abandoned us... She was forced... She was forced..."
Black Alex stood nearby, arms crossed, but tears slipped silently down his cheeks.
"Finally... we can say it. She didn’t hate us. She loved us. Our mother loved us."
Alex, the real Alex, nodded slowly to his inner selves as tears welled up in his eyes. They traced silent paths down his cheeks.
He entered his room in a daze, closed the door behind him—and fell to his knees.
A whisper escaped him, trembling and raw:
"My mother loved me... she loved me... she didn’t abandon me..."
He turned to Hati, eyes brimming.
"Hati... my mother... she didn’t abandon me. I’m not alone. I’m not alone."
He looked up, eyes catching the deep hues of the evening sky through the glass window. The clouds were touched with fading gold, like the last breath of sunlight.
"Anna," he whispered, voice cracking, "did you hear? Mother loved us. You always asked me... Why did she leave us?"
"She didn’t leave us, Anna. She was protecting us. She was forced to go... But she never stopped loving us. Anna... Anna..."
His voice broke completely,
"We were loved, Anna... We are loved..."
Then the dam burst.
Alex bawled—loud, unrestrained, years of questions and anger and quiet pain washing away in a flood of tears. The weight he’d carried for so long cracked, and in its place was grief...
