Chapter 311 - 149 Performance
Chapter 311: Chapter 149 Performance
"Street dance is probably out of the question, I just got word that Class 19 of Grade 1 is already preparing a street dance routine!"
Zhou Zixuen took on the role of "main director" for the opening ceremony class activity, although she initially accepted the task reluctantly because she couldn’t stand Wu Xiaohan’s provocation.
But Zhou Zixuen is serious by nature, and since she promised, she intended to do it well.
She continued her reconnaissance efforts and then discussed strategies with the sportscommittee member Zhao Shuai, Ma Siqi, He Tiantian, and a bunch of other good friends.
"I heard Class 11 of Grade 1 has a Luo Niang internet celebrity who brought out a dozen of her Lolita outfits, ready to put on a costume show!"
"Grade 3 has a class with some life-size puppets, which I reckon will be quite eye-catching!"
Everyone exchanged the information they had gathered.
After discussing, they looked at each other, all thinking: Damn, high school students these days sure know how to have fun.
No wonder Zhou Zixuan pretended to be sick, compared with these novel and eye-catching ways of making an entrance, their previous subtitle dance was utterly unremarkable.
"We should do something they haven’t!"
During a lull, He Tiantian spoke up.
"Something they haven’t? What’s that? Baton twirling, aerobics dance, street dance, folk dance, COSPLAY show, costume show, drumming, subtitle dance, striking various poses..."
Zhao Shuai, a tall and sturdy boy with a straightforward nature and blunt manner of speaking, counted on his fingers and realized that all the ideas for performances at the opening ceremony had been taken by others.
Even acrobatics and splits, those more challenging performances for high school students, were being prepared by other classes.
What else could be new and exciting?
Eye-catching?
Certainly, Zhao Shuai couldn’t think of anything, and the others nearly scratched their hair out in frustration.
"October 30th is not only our school anniversary but also the anniversary of Hero Jin’s death."
He Tiantian’s lips curved into a smile, "We could put on a tribute to Hero Jin—"
Zhou Zixuen’s eyes lit up, but then dimmed again, "Are we considering a martial arts performance? The sports committee could do some flips, and I and a few girls who have danced before can do the splits, bend over, but the other students—"
The others nodded along, a martial arts performance would indeed be thrilling, but it was too professionally demanding.
Most in their Class 7 were regular students, even if they had learned some special skills in their childhood, by high school, they had focused solely on their studies.
Then there were some students who had never attended dance, taekwondo, or other extracurricular classes; they had no special skills at all.
Dressing them in ancient costumes, wielding weapons, and posing was going to be a challenge.
"There are a total of fifty people in our class, and Zhou Zixuan is sick and can’t attend the rehearsals. By the time of the performance, it’s likely he won’t be able to perform!"
Yet He Tiantian was full of confidence, pulling out a homework book, ripping off a blank sheet, and starting to write and draw on it with a pen—
"Excluding Zhou Zixuan, that leaves forty-nine people in our class. Ten with swords, ten practicing boxing, ten with ribbons, ten dressed as Beggar Gang Disciples..."
"These are all group performances that basically don’t need any special training, just posing is enough."
"Brother Xuan also mentioned, there are about seven or eight students capable of performing high-difficulty moves."
"These few can do splits, bend over, and backflips, just go for whatever looks good and is exciting!"
As He Tiantian spoke slowly, Zhou Zixuen and the others couldn’t help but nod repeatedly.
"Not bad, this is really good! It’s just the costumes might be a bit difficult to come by—"
Zhao Shuai, who had been picking faults, scratched his head and pointed out a new challenge.
"No worries, my mom knows someone in the theater troupe, we can borrow some stage costumes. We don’t need many, so we should be able to borrow them!"
Zhou Zixuen patted her chest, confidently saying, "And if we really can’t borrow any, we can always buy them. Props like these can be kept as communal property of the class, for use in future performances too!"
Like the batch of costumes they had made before, which they couldn’t use this time, but would come in handy in the future.
After all, there’s an annual sports day, and perhaps next spring sports day they might put together another show.
Or, the costumes could be worn during class outings, tomb-sweepings, and other activities.
Nothing would go to waste, and besides, although the county isn’t as affluent as the big cities, a student contributing fifty to a hundred yuan to the class fund wasn’t too difficult.
As for the props, they could borrow what’s available; otherwise, they would just shop on Taobao or Pinduoduo.
These weren’t big issues at all; as long as the performance was effective, the rest didn’t matter!
