The Fallen Hero Reincarnates as the Demon King's Son -
Chapter 38 - 37 - Quests?
Chapter 38: Chapter 37 - Quests?
The next person who got the ball was a young woman who seemed extremely exhausted.
She didn’t have any particular feature. She had long black hair and black-colored eyes. Her body also wasn’t anything out of this world. The young woman just looked like a normal person.
"Uh... Hello," she awkwardly said with a sigh. "My name is Emma Chamberlain. Ugh... I’m in my third year, and I got put here because of an accident last year. Ugh... a fun fact... I’m not too sure, actually. Let me think for a moment."
There was no energy in her voice. It was dull, and honestly, if someone closed their eyes, they would most likely fall asleep almost instantly while listening to it.
"Mhm... I guess what would be most interesting about me is... my powers? I am able to control undead. My power is actually related to why I’m here."
Emma took the ball and threw it to Fleur, who immediately got nervous when she saw it approaching her.
She grabbed it and took a deep breath, calming herself down.
"My name is Fleur Champlin. I’m the daughter of Alder and Luther Champlin, one of the great heroes of the past. A fun fact about me would be that on my first day in school, I fought the son of the Demon King."
Fleur glanced at Caliste.
She knew that he would probably not appreciate what she had said at the beginning of her sentence.
"Everyone knows about that fact. Anything else?" Albert intervened with a slight frown.
Fleur shook her head. "Not really... I never did anything really fun in my life. Sorry."
"That’s alright." Albert frowned as he shook his head. "Let’s stop the game here. It’s quite boring, isn’t it? Instead, let’s talk about what you guys will do tomorrow. After all, it’s going to be the weekend, which means free time. Will you go back home, or do you guys have plans?"
Caliste heard the questions and honestly wondered why the detention center looked so... peaceful.
They were asking about each other’s days and what they would do on the weekends.
He didn’t understand why everyone in the room looked so dead. It made no sense; they should be almost happy to be here. Or maybe... they had not seen the real Albert just yet.
Nevertheless, Caliste decided to answer those questions.
"Ugh... I don’t really have anything planned, and I’m quite far from home, so I can’t really go back. I was thinking of spending the weekend here."
"Oh, you’re not even going to take on a quest to improve your reputation and get access to more resources in the Academy?"
"What do you mean? Quests?"
"Yeah... quests. Didn’t someone explain this to you?"
Caliste shook his head.
"You are currently an S-Rank student, so you have the best living conditions right now. However, your resources are still highly limited, especially since you refused all discipleships from the professors. You won’t have money to access the library as you wish. You won’t be able to eat quality food without doing quests and improving your inner rank as a student."
"Regardless of your rank, everyone has what is called Student Points, which is basically the currency within the Academy. Without it, it’s very hard to function. You won’t be able to eat, you won’t be able to go to the library and get books anymore... just quite terrible, honestly."
Caliste wasn’t too sure how real all of this was since he had already gone to the library and eaten decently without... Student Points or whatever that was.
"But I didn’t need any this week?"
"That’s because you just entered; you didn’t have any time to gather points. However, starting from next week, just to survive, you will need some points."
"And quests are the only way to get those?"
Albert shook his head. "There’s another way, but let’s say... that it will be difficult for you to make it work."
"What is it?"
"Well, the other way is by impressing professors. But since you angered all of them... you won’t be able to get any points from them. So, if I were you, I would definitely take on a quest."
Caliste nodded.
He even thanked Albert. After all, without him, he would have found himself in quite a terrible situation.
For the rest of the time in the detention center, not much happened. They talked with each other some more, and everyone quickly introduced themselves; there wasn’t anyone very impressive.
The only one who caught Caliste’s eye was the first person who had spoken. Controlling undead was something that he had never heard of before. So, he was wondering how she had managed such a thing.
Especially since one of his affinities was Death. There was a chance that he would be able to develop this power of hers. However, he couldn’t ask her right away. Things like this were secret, and he would have to gain her trust before asking for more information.
"Are you sure this is the right way to the quest board?" Caliste asked Fleur.
She nodded. "Yes, I already went to look at it on the first day to make sure that I had a good choice for my first quest. After all, the longer you wait... the worse the quests are."
"Did you pick one?"
She shook her head. "Not yet. I planned to go back to see my parents for the first weekend. However, since we refused the discipleships... it seems like I won’t have a choice but to take one."
A few minutes later, they arrived in front of a large billboard with all kinds of small pieces of paper on it.
[Easy Quests]
[Intermediate Quests]
[Hard Quests]
[Hell Difficulty Quests]
There were four categories, and each of them had different rewards based on the difficulty, as depending on the quest you would take, the rewards would be better.
With a quick glance, it seemed that every single first year had taken hold of the Easy Quests, and there were only a handful of Intermediate Quests left.
That meant there were only Hard and Hell Quests remaining.
However, there was one quest that interested Caliste and Fleur immediately.
