Chapter 28: Chapter 27 - Too Much Mana

Caliste walked onto the stage with a frown. He would have to make an important decision just now: whether he would follow the system’s wishes and choose Beerus as his "Master" and sponsor or not.

If he did follow what the system wanted, he would be able to become a lot stronger as a result. However, it would also make it clear that his choices would not be his but the system’s, which was not something Caliste wanted.

Up until now, the system had always pushed Caliste in the directions he had wanted in the first place. It was the first time that he was asking for something he did not want.

’It’s annoying... I wonder what kind of skill I would get from leveling up the system again.’

Still, before that, there was the test to go through.

As he arrived on the stage, Caliste had a very calm look on his face; it was almost as if he didn’t care about what was about to happen.

He could hear a lot of voices in the crowd; even the professors were talking among each other.

"He’ll probably choose Beerus, right?"

"Yes. All Demons choose him as their master. It’s almost like an unwritten rule when it comes to choosing their master."

"What if he doesn’t?"

One of them smirked. "Then his life at the Demonic Academy will be absolute hell. Beerus is the professor with the most influence in the Academy; he could make his life absolute hell if he wished to do so."

"He would do that to the Son of the Demon King?" another student wondered out loud.

"Who knows? Everyone knows how crazy his tendencies are. There’s a chance that he would actually do that."

Most students, however, believed that Caliste would never make such a choice since it did not make sense in the first place.

Silence quickly took over the place as Caliste placed his hand on the mana crystal before him, his hand getting closer and closer.

Everyone shut their mouths.

They all wondered how the Son of the Demon King would perform when presented with such a situation.

Would he be able to show everyone what he was truly made of?

That was the question most people asked themselves.

They had all seen or heard about the fight. They knew that he was stronger than Fleur. They also knew that he had the two most rare mana affinities in the world. There was no doubt that all professors would try their best to convince him to take them.

Still, there was one thought that coursed through most people’s minds.

’Will he make a similar decision to Fleur?’

Everyone could already imagine the drama that it would cause if the top two students would not accept the opportunity of getting a master.

Everything would be turned into chaos for the first few days at the Demonic Academy since it would be the first time such a thing had happened.

Then, as Caliste placed his hand on the mana crystal, the room completely fell silent.

Everyone expected an even stronger light to come out of it. However... nothing happened.

It was as if the mana crystal had no reaction when Caliste placed his hand on it.

The secretary looked at her tablet and tried to check the results. However, something was strange.

[Mana Purity: ???]

[Mana Quantity: ???]

Both results were unknown. It was as if the machine had failed to quantify the potential that Caliste had.

Everyone stared at the secretary as they waited for her to announce the results.

However, while that happened, Caliste stared at the mana crystal as he noticed a small crack forming in the middle of it.

’Mhm, why would they use a low-ranked mana crystal to test the students?’ Caliste shook his head as he knew exactly what had happened.

The amount and purity of his mana had been too much for the machine to handle.

"Uh..." The secretary was mind-blown as she also reached that conclusion. "It seems that we will have to get a stronger mana crystal to judge student Caliste Henry’s abilities..."

Everyone, even the professors, had their jaws drop.

Ever since the creation of the Demonic Academy, only one other student had managed such a feat. It was the second time that a student had shown such talent in their first year.

A similar thought flashed through the minds of all professors present.

’I must get him no matter what. If he becomes my disciple... I’ll get so much fame!’

They all had smirks on their faces as they began to think about ways to obtain him.

The secretary quickly went behind the stage as she began asking for someone to bring a mid-ranked mana crystal to continue the testing.

"Get me a mid-ranked mana crystal as fast as possible!" she shouted to those behind the stage.

She knew that everyone was waiting for Caliste’s scores, and she also wanted to get them.

However, as people began to run away to try their best to find one, there was someone standing in the corner of the backstage who suddenly stood up.

"Here, you can use this one."

It was a beautiful woman with long white hair and red, bloody eyes. She was magnificent, so much so that the secretary was mind-blown by her presence, almost scared.

She threw a mid-ranked mana crystal as if it were worth barely anything.

The secretary bowed as she caught it in her hands.

"Miss Rachel... thank you very much!" the secretary said with a bow.

Rachel kept a neutral expression. "No problem. I want to see if his results will be better than mine. That’s all."

This girl who had been watching from afar was Rachel, the person who currently occupied the number one seat in all of the Academy. She was known as the best talent from the last century, someone who had dominated everyone since her arrival at the academy.

’What a pity that he arrives in my last year. It would have been fun to fight against him,’ she thought in the back of her mind. ’Still, let’s see if you can at least beat my past record.’
