Chapter 72: Chapter 72: Luo Ji’s Wife
"How did Luo Ji die?"
Nan Yu furrowed her brows, asking in confusion.
As Sun Lu sat alongside her in the elevator, she said gravely, "I just learned of this too, and called you immediately before rushing over to the hospital."
"The police are all upstairs now, and his family has arrived, claiming incessantly that you beat him to death."
Reaching this point, she turned to look at Nan Yu, stopped mid-sentence, her eyes filled with anxiety,
Nan Yu turned to face her, calming herself before asking, "Beside this, is there anything else?"
Clearly nervous, Sun Lu licked her lips, her voice hoarse, "There’s another thing, three minutes ago a witness claimed it was you who sneaked into the ward and killed him on the spot."
The elevator reached the floor, and the doors slid open.
Nan Yu stood in the elevator, not taking a step out, instead staring intently at Sun Lu.
She sought to confirm uncertainly once more.
"Someone saw me kill him?"
Sun Lu stood at the elevator door, nodding emphatically to her.
"Not only that, but surveillance captured you, half an hour ago, at the hospital, entering that ward."
Nan Yu’s eyebrows knitted tightly together; she pinched the bridge of her nose, still in the red dress she had not had the chance to change, stepping out of the elevator on her high heels.
"Where’s the surveillance video? I want to see it."
Sun Lu walked ahead, quickly moving towards Luo Ji’s ward.
"I’ve already asked my apprentice to make a copy of the surveillance footage, we’ll take a look later. Right now, let’s go and find the police."
By this time, the entrance to Luo Ji’s ward was surrounded, and the police were guarding the door, not allowing anyone in.
At the end of the corridor, on a chair, sat a gaunt and pitiable woman whose features were clouded with a deathly air, clearly someone who had long languished in illness.
She periodically coughed a few times, occasionally coughing up bright red fluid.
Sensing someone’s presence, she lifted her head and saw Nan Yu’s face.
The next second, a cruel light gleamed in her eyes as she sprang to her feet, charging at Nan Yu like a shrew.
"You murderer, give me back my husband!" she exclaimed.
Sun Lu’s quick reflexes placed her in front of the woman. "Mrs. Luo, please calm down," she said.
The woman, Chang Sumeng, known as Mrs. Luo, wildly reached for Nan Yu, who was behind Sun Lu, as if wishing she could shatter her bones.
"You’re the one who killed my husband, I want you to pay with your life!"
Nan Yu stood her ground, not moving an inch; she reached out to pat Sun Lu’s shoulder.
"Lawyer Sun, step aside."
Sun Lu hesitated for a moment before releasing Chang Sumeng and stepping to the side, then looked back at Nan Yu.
She saw Chang Sumeng raving, her claws swinging as she launched an attack on Nan Yu.
Yet Nan Yu, calm and collected, barely lifted her eyelids and with a swift motion grabbed Chang Sumeng’s arms, rendering her immobile.
Rooted to the spot in surprise, Sun Lu suddenly remembered that Nan Yu was capable of taking on eleven people by herself; facing Chang Sumeng’s assault was like playing with a child to her.
She breathed a sigh of relief, then began to worry about Chang Sumeng, hoping she wouldn’t be too reckless.
Nan Yu’s clear and pleasant voice broke the silence.
"Are you Luo Ji’s wife?"
Chang Sumeng struggled furiously but remained entirely ineffectual. Enraged, she attempted to kick Nan Yu with both legs.
Unexpectedly, Nan Yu reacted swiftly, pressing her down into the neighboring chair, preventing her from standing up or reaching with her legs.
The woman turned into a helpless fish on the chopping block, a touch of panic budding in her heart.
She loudly called to the police inside the ward, "Help! She killed my husband and now she wants to silence me too, save me, quick!"
Nan Yu’s face darkened, looming over her, a shadow cast upon the woman’s face like an immense mountain engulfing her, pressure building infinitely around them.
"Shut up."
