Chapter 295: Chapter 295: Your Golden Light, Doesn’t Cure This
The production team wrapped up the live broadcast early after explaining Ianthe Lawson’s situation, and Director Clark decided to pause further filming considering Ianthe’s condition.
Lucas Jennings’ face rarely showed a hint of fatigue as he relaxed.
Throughout the day, dealing with the Big Ghost and the soul-replacement ordeal, she had expended quite a bit of her Spiritual Power.
Director Clark, unaccustomed to seeing her so worn-out, hurriedly arranged for a car to send her back to the hotel for some rest.
Just as the group was about to get in the car and leave, Ariel Zimmerman suddenly pointed to the street not far away, her voice trembling,
"Is that—Is there a person over there?"
It wasn’t her fault for being jittery; today’s events had been quite overwhelming.
With the rumors that this film set might have been built over a graveyard, the chances of encountering a ghost were significantly higher.
Everyone immediately followed her voice, and indeed saw what seemed to be someone standing on the dimly lit Chang’an Street ahead.
The person was holding a black umbrella in the rain, making it hard to discern their appearance.
Lucas Jennings recognized the figure with just one glance.
To be precise, she recognized the blinding Golden Light that always accompanied him.
Apart from the Boss Chalmers, no one else could shine so brightly at this time of night.
She couldn’t understand why he had appeared here.
"He’s someone I know; I’ll go take a look."
Lucas Jennings said, grabbing an umbrella from a nearby staff member and running over.
Behind her, Amber Livingston muttered in confusion, "How can she recognize someone in just a shadowy silhouette?"
Ariel Zimmerman laughed and retorted, "Mind your own business when it comes to the Fairy Lady."
Scarlett’s vision certainly wasn’t like theirs.
Ignoring the murmurs behind her, Lucas Jennings jogged over to the approaching figure.
Samuel Chalmers just watched her as she jogged over, then slowed her steps when she was two meters away to avoid splashing rain or puddles onto him.
"Samuel Chalmers, is there something going on with Dashiell?"
Last time, after leaving the Chalmers Family, Samuel Chalmers told her not to call him Mr. Chalmers anymore.
Lucas Jennings initially wanted to call him Brother Samuel like Donovan Jennings did, but remembered how Azura Loomis was ruthlessly corrected by the Boss for doing so, so she started addressing him by his full name.
After all, that’s how he addressed her.
Samuel Chalmers abruptly appeared at the film set, leading Lucas Jennings to first assume there was an issue with Dashiell.
Samuel Chalmers stood with an umbrella in one hand, saying only,
"The Chalmers Family has a cooperative project with the government here. I came to take a look... Your brother asked me to check on you."
Lies, Donovan Jennings hadn’t sent him a message.
He had happened to be downtown during the day when he noticed a couple of lightning strikes and suspected she had used the Thunder Talisman again.
Upon checking, it turned out something had indeed gone wrong with the production team.
Lucas Jennings didn’t doubt him when he said Donovan had sent him since this wasn’t the first time.
"Everything with the crew is sorted out. I’ll message my brother later to reassure him."
Samuel Chalmers glanced at her slightly pale face, the space between his brows faintly furrowing,
"Were you injured?"
Lucas Jennings didn’t understand the abruptness of the question but honestly shook her head,
"No, it’s just that I used a lot of Spiritual Power today and am a bit tired."
Hearing her claim of tiredness, Samuel Chalmers could tell today’s situation was indeed challenging. His dark eyes narrowed slightly, and after a pause, he suddenly stepped forward.
His tall figure bent slightly to fit under her umbrella, and before Lucas could react, Samuel’s hand rested on hers gripping the umbrella handle.
The night was chilly with rain, yet his palm was exceptionally warm.
Sensing the warmth on the back of her hand, Lucas slightly tightened her grip on the umbrella, her almond eyes gradually widening.
As she looked up at him, her eyes were filled with confusion and questions.
Being so close, Samuel’s face was almost completely hidden in the dazzling Golden Light, making it hard for her to see his facial expressions.
She only heard the familiar concern laced within his icy voice,
"Does it feel better?"
Lucas was momentarily stunned, then belatedly recalled something. As she looked at Samuel’s hand solemnly resting on the back of hers, she suddenly felt a bit embarrassed.
She opened her mouth, closed it again, and after a long pause, quietly spoke.
Her voice still held rare traces of embarrassment.
"Well... your Golden Light doesn’t work for this."
As soon as the words fell, Lucas distinctly felt the hand on her back stiffen.
Quickly, the warmth receded from her hand, and Samuel Chalmers’ voice was calm,
"Sorry, I didn’t know."
Hearing his voluntary apology, Lucas slightly pressed her lips and earnestly explained,
"I understand you meant well; it’s my fault for not explaining properly."
She said, "Last time, my hand injury was due to Resentful Energy corrosion, and your Golden Light can dispel those malevolent energies, so I healed quickly. But today I’m not injured, just plain exhausted from using too much Spiritual Power, so it doesn’t help."
Actually, it wasn’t entirely useless. After all, the Boss’s presence could naturally refine Spiritual Energy, and being around him would definitely help her recover faster, but there was no need to mention that.
Besides, having someone hold her hand last time felt like she was already taking advantage of him.
Thinking about this, Lucas suddenly felt her backpack pocket twitching erratically.
Samuel’s gaze shifted toward it as Lucas opened the pouch with a furrowed brow, seeing the Yellow Talisman Lantern, originally containing the Big Ghost, spring out. It began uncontrollably circling Samuel.
The scene was vaguely familiar.
Not only was Lucas familiar with it, but so was Samuel.
Last time, the infant spirit that bumped into his hand had circled around him much the same.
Lucas raised her hand to grab the little lantern and explained, "This is the Big Ghost from the crew causing trouble today."
As promised during the day, Lucas intended to help the Big Ghost eliminate the Resentful Energy of the past eight generations and register it as a Ghost Cultivator once they got back to the hotel.
Suddenly, she looked towards Samuel, her eyes slightly brightening.
Though the Boss couldn’t instantly restore her Spiritual Power, he could help eliminate Resentful Energy!
She initially planned to use the Golden Light beads she had collected from the Boss to help the Big Ghost eliminate the Resentful Energy the previous eight generations had left within her.
But that was energy-consuming and arduous, and now the real deal was right here; she didn’t need to bother so much.
However, it would still require Samuel’s agreement.
Listening to her reason, Samuel wasn’t particularly interested in helping a ghost disperse Resentful Energy but didn’t immediately refuse, only asking,
"If I don’t agree, what do you plan to do?"
Lucas didn’t appear disappointed even if he didn’t agree, as it wasn’t his obligation; she simply said,
"If you don’t agree, I can handle it myself."
It’s just tiring and Spiritual Power-consuming.
Lucas didn’t say this, but Samuel knew her so-called handling wasn’t that simple; otherwise, she wouldn’t have asked.
Seeing Lucas’ slightly paler-than-usual face, Samuel pressed his lips together, and after a while, he asked her in a deep voice,
"What should I do?"
