Chapter 269: Chapter 269 All Taught by Scarlett
The three of them stood at the doorway as two delivery drivers approached, each carrying two large insulated boxes.
"Are you Mr. Wyatt Anson and Miss Elsa? This is your delivery," one of the drivers asked directly, adding, "There’s quite a lot here, do you need help setting it up?"
"Yes, please, if it’s not too much trouble," Wyatt said, moving forward with Elsa to assist the drivers in unpacking the items.
Soon, more things were taken out from the insulated boxes.
Milk tea, cake, dessert tower, skewers, sweet soup, sushi platter, clay pot rice... Even Victor Quintero, standing off to the side, was a bit stunned by the sight.
Wyatt and Elsa remained calm, with one unpacking items and the other neatly arranging them inside the iron gate. Alongside the fresh treats, there was also a large bag of snacks and small toys purchased online.
Looking at all these items, Wyatt couldn’t help but ask quietly, "Are these really enough? Shouldn’t we be burning some candles and paper money?"
"No need," Elsa replied softly, "I checked online, and the lady inside prefers these things."
Hearing this, Wyatt fell silent.
The delivery driver, evidently accustomed to people leaving deliveries at this house, deftly unpacked items while leaning in, asking Wyatt in a conspiratorial tone,
"Are you here to make a wish too?"
Lately, after receiving several delivery orders for this villa, the delivery drivers in the area had a good idea of what was going on.
Wyatt smiled at the question, "We’re... returning a favor, you could say."
Intrigued, the driver leaned in closer upon hearing this,
"So it’s true... she’s here?"
The delivery driver glanced pointedly inside the villa.
Wyatt simply smiled, not saying anything.
Victor Quintero stood expressionless on the side, looking at the Garrison Family villa shrouded in Shadow Energy, thinking to himself that there was more than one spirit inside.
The delivery driver quickly departed after finishing his task.
Wyatt glanced at the various items laid out on the ground, then at the villa in front, uncertain, he asked Elsa,
"Is this all we need to do? Will she come out?"
Elsa shook her head, "Online it said the ghost lady never appears in front of people, but she should sense our intentions if we leave the offerings."
Wyatt wasn’t sure whether to feel relieved or disappointed upon hearing that.
Just as they were about to thank Victor and leave, Victor suddenly spoke up, "Open the door."
Wyatt and Elsa were initially puzzled by this, but in the next second, the villa’s previously tightly shut door clicked open on its own.
Immediately, the two felt a chill emanate from the doorway; upon instinctively turning their heads, they saw a woman in a floral dress standing somewhat awkwardly inside the open door.
She wasn’t conventionally attractive, but she had a pleasant enough appearance. Her skin was an unusually pale shade. At first sight, Wyatt and Elsa guessed who she was.
"Are you the ghost lady who saved me?" Elsa was the first to speak, her eyes filled with excitement, yet strangely absent of fear of seeing a ghost.
The woman gave a reluctant nod, though her gaze at Wyatt and Elsa carried a hint of reproach.
Wyatt and Elsa couldn’t comprehend where the ghost lady’s reproach was coming from until Victor coldly remarked,
"So, you’re the ghost occupying this villa and using human offerings for your Cultivation?"
Victor recalled that the Sea City Security Bureau had mentioned an old ghost occupying human property. The matter had been shelved due to lack of manpower and the fact that it wasn’t a life-threatening incident.
Little did they know that the old ghost occupying private property was the very benefactor ghost Wyatt and Elsa referred to.
With Victor’s words, Wyatt and Elsa suddenly understood.
No wonder the ghost lady had a reproachful look earlier; they must have been reckless! Bringing Special Security Bureau personnel here so openly!
To someone else, it might seem like they were repaying kindness with betrayal by bringing someone to capture her!
What a huge misunderstanding!
"Mr. Quintero, you’ve got it wrong, this young lady is a good ghost. She hasn’t harmed anyone; she’s helped people!"
They had heard that the Security Bureau wouldn’t take action against ghosts who hadn’t killed, so why was Victor acting so differently?
Instinctively, they stood in front of Victor, and the ghost lady sighed with relief at their actions but still explained across the distance,
"Right, I haven’t harmed anyone. I’m a good ghost, and I don’t just trick people into giving offerings. I’m a certified legitimate Ghost Cultivator, and Scarlett helped me get the certification; look."
While explaining, she opened the Spiritual Affairs APP to show her Ghost Cultivator certification.
Any formally certified Ghost Cultivator in Spiritual Affairs who had harmed anyone would have their Ghost Energy turn red, and the app would automatically capture the energy and report it to the Special Security Bureau.
Since getting certified, she’s been cautious to avoid any mistakes!
Victor looked at her certification page, then at the couple standing in front of him, and merely snorted,
"Even if you’re a good ghost, you did occupy this villa, didn’t you? And you conspired with other little ghosts."
He glanced at several ghostly heads cautiously peeking out from behind her in the villa.
Some were old, some young, all of them lonely ghosts with nowhere to go.
Wyatt and Elsa’s expressions slightly changed upon hearing that.
They didn’t know that.
Did the Security Bureau even handle such things?
The couple was wracking their brains on how to defend the ghost lady, and then she said,
"This villa wasn’t forcibly occupied; its deed originally belonged to my family."
While speaking, a piece of paper appeared out of thin air, flying towards Victor.
The paper was worn and old, revealing that it was a stamped property deed from the Republic era, the only thing she had left from those days.
Though the deed was void under the new government, historically it still held certain binding powers, especially concerning ghosts.
This deed had allowed her to stay safely in the Garrison Family home over the years without being expelled.
In a sense, the villa was jointly owned by her and the Garrison Family.
Victor looked at the deed documents and grudgingly acknowledged this causal bond, but this was still a violation of ordinary people’s rights, and just as he intended to lecture further, another piece of relatively newer paper flew to him.
Upon focusing on it, Victor’s mouth twitched.
This time, the paper clearly documented the Garrison Family voluntarily transferring the villa to her, complete with Josiah Garrison’s signature and fingerprint.
This settled her occupation of the villa as legal and proper.
Just what had compelled the Garrison Family to sign such transfer documents?
With a wave, Victor returned both documents to her, no longer bearing the sternness from a moment ago but remained puzzled,
"As an old ghost from the ’70s, how do you know about all this?"
Even knowing to have someone pre-sign transfer documents to ensure she was occupying the property lawfully.
Seeing he was no longer aggressive, she secretly sighed with relief, then gave a shy smile and truthfully said,
"Scarlett taught me everything."
