Chapter 235: Chapter 235 She Stopped Pretending
"Inspiration" Episode 4 aired today, and the internet’s trending searches blew up once again.
Initially, most people were drawn to the rumored Taoism Academy, and with the Jennings family making their first appearance on screen, there were six spots occupied on the trending list all day.
At first, everyone was marveling at the school’s environment.
But later on, people inexplicably changed their tune and started envying Scarlett Jennings for such a dad.
To ensure his daughter ate well during her college years, he simply opened a restaurant at the foot of the mountain. Who wouldn’t want Lucas Jennings as a dad?
When Dad missed the chance to hug his daughter because of a moment of distraction, people instantly pushed #MyThoughtfulYetAwkwardBillionaireDad to trending.
And then, Scarlett Jennings released two little figures right in front of the live broadcast...
The moment those two little swaying paper figures appeared, everyone, whether it was Lucas and the others or the viewers in the live stream, instantly forgot about the good dad or the farewell hug and started shouting in the chat.
[Daddy!!! I want those two little figures!!]
[Production team, you have ten seconds! Release this little yellow cart, I’m not joking!]
[She’s not pretending anymore; this woman is finally not pretending! She dodged and avoided giving responses before. Now she just released two little paper figures!]
[If anyone ever tells me metaphysics is scripted again, I’ll smack them with these two little paper figures!! Show me how you’d script something like this!]
[Metaphysics is real, I’m sick of saying this.]
[Ahhhh, I want it! Sis! Hungry! Food!]
Some of the passersby who initially stumbled upon the video thought it was some sort of special effect from a TV series, thinking it wasn’t anything special since many shows had it.
Once they confirmed this was a live broadcast recording with no effects, the passersby were left eating their words and started shouting in the comments about wanting a little figure too.
Isn’t this just like a TV series coming to life?
Now that self-jumping paper figures exist, could the dream of flying with swords be far off?
You could say Scarlett Jennings’ sudden move directly blew up the internet.
Later, Lucas Jennings’ hurried hug was overlooked by everyone, and Director Clark never expected Scarlett to unleash such a big move. Though surprised, he shared the same question as the online users.
Yeah, why aren’t you pretending anymore?
Scarlett Jennings responded to this, "The audience needs to adapt beforehand."
As for what they needed to adapt to, she didn’t say.
But soon enough, everyone, including Director Clark, understood what she meant.
The next morning, as the ancient bell tolled, the "military training" for the new Taoism Academy students officially commenced.
Scarlett Jennings, along with the other four guests and the host, William Zeller, had already donned the Taoist Robes that matched the academy freshmen and gathered early.
The production team had obtained filming permission under the guise of promoting metaphysics and applied to experience the pre-semester training as "temporary students" to give the audience a more genuine feel of this special university’s life.
The sky was just beginning to brighten, with a couple of stars still visible on the far horizon.
Scarlett and her crew had followed the new students, guided by two senior brothers, to the plaza in front of Benedict Stone Body.
The academy officially started like other schools in September, so currently, it was just the freshmen in need of "military training," a teacher in charge of leading, and two senior brothers who came early to assist.
These two were Nathan White and Gregory Xander.
Despite the efforts made by William and the other guests to blend in by changing into Taoist Robes, the camera-wielding crew made their presence all the more conspicuous.
The instructor in charge first briefly explained the production team’s purpose and the upcoming two days of joining in the "military training," and so began to announce the start of today’s exercises.
"This year, the Taoism Academy admitted 29 freshmen, with 28 actually reporting in. Everyone, arrange yourselves following the Qiankun sequence."
As the instructor finished this sentence, the academy students swiftly lined up according to the instructions, leaving William and the others bewildered.
They didn’t even understand the question!
What’s the deal with arranging in Qiankun sequence?
Were they supposed to stand by some formation?
The live broadcast viewers, stationed early by the production team’s pre-broadcast, were just as bewildered watching the scene, not knowing what was going on.
Fortunately, Evander and Scarlett reacted calmly, pulling over the three men on the crew’s side while rearranging Ariel Zimmerman into place.
Stella Gibson, who was with them, quietly explained,
"Qiankun means yin and yang, which also refers to male and female."
Indeed, everyone lined up according to the arrangement of males and females, and Sebastian Carew and the crew and the live broadcast viewers finally realized what Qiankun meant and went into the chat to vent their frustration.
[Just say line up by gender, what’s with the whole Qiankun thing! Trying to sound smart, are ya!]
But it was clear no one paid any mind to the viewers’ complaints. The instructor in charge saw everyone stand across the stone bricks underfoot and waved his hand, announcing the first training subject for today.
"Today’s first lesson is meditation."
Following his words, everyone sat cross-legged simultaneously.
The program guests did the same, secretly relieved.
Meditation, that’s easy enough.
Then the instructor spoke again, "From now on, two hours, everyone must remain focused and still."
After he spoke, Nathan White took it upon himself to pull out a four-legged incense burner from who knows where, placing it in front of Benedict Stone Body, lighting it up.
In the next moment, a wisp of smoke began to gently rise from the incense burner.
Everyone caught a whiff of an elegant, ancient fragrance that inexplicably gave a sense of clarity and peace.
While the live broadcast viewers couldn’t smell the incense, they felt this seemed very much like Taoism. Before they could dwell on what kind of incense it was, the instructor suddenly raised a hand and pulled out four yellow paper figures, cut into human shapes, from his robes.
Everyone found these paper figures familiar, and in the next moment, they watched the instructor wave his hand, chanting, and the four talisman paper figures lightly drifted down and transformed into four lively little paper figures, similar to Scarlett’s from the previous day.
The moment the four little figures hit the ground, they instantly toddled into the lineup with their short legs, and the instructor’s voice came through, stern and commanding,
"Remember, do not move without permission."
After he finished, he turned and left, while the four little figures, seemingly obeying his order, began to patrol with an air of importance.
The live broadcast exploded once more.
Sitting in front of the monitor, Director Clark finally understood what Scarlett meant by letting the audience adapt beforehand.
So, it turns out, this was the way they needed to adapt!!!
