Chapter 26: Who says I’ll leave?

"What’s with the reaction? I’m generously offering you my lap here."

"So why are you—"

"Just go to sleep."

Cutting him off mid-sentence, he yanked him forward by the collar of his shirt, pulling him unceremoniously onto his lap. Yoon Seoyul blinked in surprise, momentarily stunned, his breath catching as his gaze met Cheon Areum’s. A few untamed strands of hair had fallen over his eyes, brushing against his lashes. Cheon Areum raised a hand and gently swept the strands away, fingers moving through his hair in a slow, deliberate motion. Reluctantly closing his eyes, Yoon Seoyul fell asleep, his breathing growing steady as Cheon Areum continued to run his fingers through his hair, calm and constant.

Cheon Areum sat motionless, thoughtlessly staring down at Yoon Seoyul’s sleeping face. The faint rise and fall of his chest, the peaceful expression on his face—it was oddly mesmerizing. Time slipped through his fingers like water, unnoticed. By the time he blinked back to awareness, the sky outside had changed hues. An hour had passed already. No wonder his legs were beginning to go numb.

Maybe making him lay on my lap wasn’t the best idea.

He wanted to stretch out his legs, but Yoon Seoyul showed no signs of waking up anytime soon. That’s when the door—which had been closed this entire time—flew open as Kim Ryung entered the office unquietly.

"Master, I got—"

Instinctively, his hands moved to cover Yoon Seoyul’s ears. Whatever Kim Ryung was about to say stayed unsaid as he saw them on the couch, confusion written all over his face.

"He’s really sleeping?"

"Yeah."

"....I got your card here."

Cheon Areum took the card being handed to him, his fingers brushing against the smooth, glass-like surface. It was transparent, delicate, yet reverberating faintly with a glimmer of his own energy embedded within.

"I’ll take my leave now..."

"Oh, yes. Thanks for the card."

"Don’t mention it. And... if he wakes up, tell him there’s a new S-Class gate scheduled for tonight."

"Okay."

Carefully closing the door behind him, Kim Ryung left as soon as he came. Cheon Areum sat still for another ten minutes before he reached his limit, wanting to throw away the whole man—but keeping his calm, he wriggled his way out from under him. The moment he stood up again, he was sure he would be able to fly. Yoon Seoyul’s head was unexpectedly quite heavy.

He wouldn’t wake up if I leave now, would he?

Eyeing him uneasily, he decided to take his leave. Even though he had joined the guild, Yoon Seoyul never mentioned if he had any work to do. During a sudden rise in gates, shouldn’t it be natural for him to be getting launched into the gates as soon as possible? Were they hesitating after the last time?

Cheon Areum kept a sliver of the door unclosed. Since Joon was sitting out here, it should leave some human presence in the room for him to be able to sleep. Joon, however—perhaps noticing his intentions—huffed out in annoyance.

"What’s your relationship with the master?"

"Huh?"

Unprepared for such a question, he mumbled out a little ’huh’ and glanced at him dimly. Joon glared at him with unprecedented ferocity.

"Did something happen? Why are you asking me such a question?"

"What’s so special about you? You might be the country’s second S+ Class, but that’s it. There’s nothing more. If you’re after his money, you can earn more than him now—so why do you need to go to such lengths to seduce him?"

"...."

Although Joon spoke composedly, there was a line of frustration behind his voice. Cheon Areum listened patiently, but he was speechless. There were a few conclusions coming to his mind, though. Either Joon secretly had a crush on Yoon Seoyul, or he just didn’t like Cheon Areum.

"Are you worried about him?"

Joon’s eyelids twitched slightly as he asked, but he still timorously nodded, breaking eye contact.

"What is it that you’re worried about? Me wanting to seduce Yoon Seoyul, or him falling for a person like me?"

"Yoon Seoyul falling for you and you leaving him."

Joon’s eyes were fixed on his hands resting on top of the table as he replied. Cheon Areum mulled over the words in his head.

"How are you so sure I’ll leave him?"

It was a pointless conversation to begin with. Yoon Seoyul would never fall for the villain, and to leave him, he would have to be together with him first. Cheon Areum shouldn’t have said anything.

"I have a feeling you will."

"So just based on your feeling, you’re persuaded that I’ll leave him."

"That’s right. You should trust your feelings more often."

Not wanting to continue this conversation anymore, Cheon Areum left before Joon could say anything back to him.

Cheon Areum sent a text message to Yoon Seoyul about the gate scheduled for tonight as he climbed the stairs to his apartment with one hand. In the other hand, he held the suit Rian’s mother had designed for him. Putting the phone back into his pocket, he entered the code.

"Rian, I’m home."

"Hyung!"

Cheon Areum changed into house slippers as Rian, sitting in front of the entrance, enthusiastically called out.

"What are you doing over here?"

He bent down, half his body leaning forward, to see Rian holding a black uncapped marker in his hand as he pointed to the two stick figures holding hands on the white wall.

"Look, Hyung! This is you, and this is me."

The taller one was Cheon Areum, and the one half his height was Rian.

"Why are you drawing on the wall? Isn’t it fun to draw on paper?"

"No, the paper is smoother than the walls, but I ran out of paper."

Cheon Areum hung the suit in the closet as Rian spoke, showing him the stack of A4 papers full of colors.

"Let’s go out to buy a folder and more sheets for you, then."

The clothes he had ordered last night arrived on the same day in the morning, so the once-empty closet was filled with new clothes. Now he wouldn’t have to run downstairs to use the laundry room just to have an outfit for tomorrow.

"Rian, come over here and pick what you want to wear out. We’ll dine out tonight."

"Really? Then I want to wear that grass-colored matching set!"

Jumping up and down, he took a tour of the apartment before making his way over to the closet as Cheon Areum changed him out of his pajamas.

"Did you brush your teeth after eating today?"

"Hmm!"

"Good job. Here, done."

Zipping the hoodie to the top, he patted Rian’s head, getting up to reach the hairbrush when he heard the bell ring. He paused for a second before grabbing the hairbrush and handing it to Rian.

"Rian, can you style your hair while I check who’s here?"

"Okay!"

Gently shutting the bedroom door, Cheon Areum walked over to the intercom. A large silhouette loomed over the screen. Recognizing who it was, he sighed in relief as he opened the front door.

"Shouldn’t you be getting ready to enter the gate? What are you doing here?"

"Why did you leave without telling me?"

Yoon Seoyul spoke, taking off his shoes at the entrance, but Cheon Areum’s attention was totally on the bag hanging from his arm. It was full of popsicles.

"Did you get this for me?"

"Yes, since you seem to like them."

Yoon Seoyul gave him the bag, speaking as nonchalantly as ever. Cheon Areum, forgetting about world affairs, immediately began to lighten the bag. He had been regretting not buying any before coming home, but to think they’d walk right into his dungeon. The main character is really the best, deserving of his title.

"Where’s Rian? You’re not sharing it with him?"

"Oh, yeah. Rian, come over here and take whatever you want before I end up eating all of it."

"What are you talking about, Hyung..."

Running to his side, Rian’s expression visibly did a 180 as he saw Yoon Seoyul sitting on the chair at the dining table. He hid himself behind his legs as he whispered—loud enough for Yoon Seoyul to hear:

"What’s he doing here again? Is he here to beg you to let him sleep here again? Tell him to leave, Hyung..."

Rian muttered, eyeing him distrustfully. Cheon Areum watched Yoon Seoyul, whose face remained the same as he heard Rian’s words.

"But he bought ice cream as repayment. It should be fine to let him stay for a bit, no?"

He looked down at Rian, who disagreed with his features as wrinkles appeared on his soft forehead.

"Hyung!"

"What’s the matter, Rian? You want one? Here, it’s chocolate-flavored."

Rian innocently took the popsicle, pouting, and turned to glare at Yoon Seoyul.

"Mister, do you see how naive my older brother is? Why are you bringing bribes into our house?"

"It’s not to bribe him."

"It is! You clearly got it because you know he’s easily fooled by the sight of it!"

Climbing up on the other chair at the dining table, he stood on it as he pointed his hand back at his older brother standing near the kitchen counter and downing the popsicles one by one.

"...."
