Chapter 1488: Chapter 1586: The Strongest Swordsman
“You are the strongest one I have ever fought!” The executioner swung his almost equally tall executioner’s sword crazily at the Phoenix Mask Man, each swing filled with a bloody aura.
The Phoenix Mask Man, with his longsword in hand, easily neutralized every attack from the executioner and remained unscathed, whereas the executioner, his initially spotless white robe as pure as snow, was now dotted with crimson, stained with his own blood.
Thirteen wounds in total, all inflicted by the Phoenix Mask Man, though none were fatal, but for the assassin from Hidden Kill Hall, known for the most kills, being driven to such an embarrassing state was intolerable.
“Your strength is very average.” The Phoenix Mask Man said indifferently, his words scarce, having only spoken two or three sentences since his arrival–just like his sword, his strikes were clean and efficient, devoid of any unnecessary movements, each one aimed to kill.
Yet, within the sword moves the Phoenix Mask Man demonstrated, traces of the righteous Sword Tao of the Heaven Earth Sword of the scholarly path was evident.
The Heaven Earth Sword of the scholarly path focuses not on the sword moves, but rather the Sword Intent, to comprehend the way of Heaven and Earth, operate the Heaven Earth Sword, refining swordsmanship and the self.
Within the scholarly path, successors of the Heaven Earth Sword became rare, as comprehending its way was exceedingly difficult, leading to the waning lineage of the Heaven Earth Sword with only four or five individuals persevering in its practice, hoping to revive and glorify this lineage once again.
Another reason for the decline of the Heaven Earth Sword lineage was due to the Phoenix Mask Man, who was once a successor during its most glorious period but chose to deviate from its doctrine. He slew his former master who taught him the Sword Tao, killed his fellow disciples who practiced the sword with him, and ultimately became the enemy of the entire scholarly path, eventually captured by the combined forces of experts from the three sects.
He mastered not only the Heaven Earth Sword but also more powerful sword moves derived from it.
Void of Sword Intent, there were only deadly Sword Moves, pure and solely created for killing.
Perhaps, to someone like the Phoenix Mask Man at such a level, a sword is nothing more than an ordinary object, and sword moves come naturally.
If asked who the strongest sword master is today, it is hard to determine, as there is an abundance of masters throughout the vast lands of the Nine Countries Seven Seas.
But if asked who the strongest Swordsman is, Phoenix Mask Man would undoubtedly have a place among them.
Startling like a sword move as though a cascade from the Nine Heavens, imbued with endless Sword Qi, it descended upon the executioner.
The executioner swung his executioner’s sword, its fearsome pressure causing the glacier below to instantly crack and several snow peaks to collapse.
Clang!!!!!
Lordsword clashed with the executioner’s sword, causing a tumult of raging energy, as the two masters collided with their respective forces.
The executioner’s murderous aura was sky-high; he was among the absolute strongest in Hidden Kill Hall, having killed countless victims. Once, he stood alone with a sword in a besieged city, killing frenziedly from day into night and from night back into day. Piles of bodies lay at his feet, covered in layers of thickened blood, his eyes red with slaughter until he could no longer wield his sword. Only then did he realize every living creature in the city had been eradicated, not a single soul remained.
His power, derived almost entirely from his endless kills, was also related to the eerie Martial Arts he practiced–the more he killed, the stronger his Exercise Body became, and the higher his realm of Cultivation would reach.
And so, the executioner, known for the most kills in Hidden Kill Hall, forfeited his own name and became known solely by his moniker, the executioner.
Yet, even such a powerhouse found himself at a disadvantage in the clash with the Phoenix Mask Man, unable to suppress the blood surging from his throat, a fresh trail spilling from the corner of his mouth.
Even the Phoenix Mask Man’s Phoenix Head Mask bore some cracks from the formidable blade aura but remained overall intact.
Bang!
The Phoenix Head Mask Man kicked out, and the executioner swept his leg in return. The two parted and without any pause, they were locked in combat once again.
This was a fight that wouldn’t end until one emerged victorious. The executioner was frenzied with killing intent, an inner voice telling him that only by severing the head before him, splattering the brains, could he find peace and satisfaction.
The Phoenix Head Mask Man looked indifferently at the executioner, his voice ringing out again, “Being swayed by one’s own Martial Art Exercise Body, what kind of Martial Artist are you?”
The executioner’s cleaving blade whistled through the air but was blocked by the Longsword. The Phoenix Head Mask Man’s figure shifted, appearing directly in front of the executioner, his sword piercing straight into the executioner’s chest.
This thrust pierced the executioner’s heart.
But the executioner, heedless of his own life, with the cleaving blade obstructed, reached out with his hand attempting to dig out the heart of the Phoenix Head Mask Man.
However, the Phoenix Head Mask Man did not give him any chance to inflict injury, as the Longsword fell once more, severing the arm of the executioner.
“Die!” roared the executioner, his pale face twisted with savagery and madness. The cleaving blade released myriad glimmers of light, not sparing even himself and enveloped both him and the Phoenix Head Mask Man in it, as though resolved to perish together.
The Phoenix Head Mask Man moved beneath his feet, and even more sword lights appeared.
The Heaven and Earth One Sword!
Countless sword lights converged, embodying the peak of contemporary Sword Tao, infused with the power of heaven and earth.
Before the executioner’s eyes, only this single Sword Qi remained visible, obscuring all else.
In the next moment, the cleaving blade fell from his hand, the executioner’s head flew into the air, blood spurting forth.
Snap!
The Phoenix Head Mask Man caught the head of the executioner, looking at it dispassionately.
“What?” The Green Robe Guest, the old farmer, and the Alluring Fairy were all shocked beyond measure. Despite all their calculations, they had not foreseen the executioner being killed by the masked opponent.
“This guy is still as formidable as before,” the Lion Mask Man said with a light chuckle, evidently not surprised by the outcome.
“Amitabha, he is much more formidable than before,” commented the Snake Mask Man.
The executioner had not died instantly, merely had his head severed. Given time, he could fully recover.
But now, in the hands of the Phoenix Head Mask Man, there was no chance of living on.
“Why are you so strong?” the face of the executioner was contorted with rage, despair, and confusion.
He had killed so many to attain his level of Cultivation. If his own Cultivation was comparable to his opponent’s, why was his defeat so miserable?
“You and I alike, we’ve both strayed from the path. However, I’ve found my way back, and you have not, only straying further. That is the difference between you and me,” the Phoenix Head Mask Man declared, and crushed the executioner’s head in his hand.
