Chapter 1307 - Chapter 1307 Chapter 1406 The Secret of The Forest of Mist
Chapter 1307: Chapter 1406: The Secret of The Forest of Mist Chapter 1307: Chapter 1406: The Secret of The Forest of Mist From the woman in the black robe, Fang Lin learned more about what The Forest of Mist really was.
It turned out that The Forest of Mist was actually made up of a Seven-layer Array, each layer of the array existing independently. Once one entered The Forest of Mist, they would be inside these seven layers of arrays.
The first array was a place where the surrounding environment changed every ten days. One could only leave there and enter the next array by finding the Array Eye.
The place Fang Lin was currently in was the Second Array, and the woman in front of him in the black robe was the guardian of this array.
“You say you’re the guardian here, so why didn’t I see a so-called guardian at the first array?” Fang Lin asked with a frown, expressing his confusion.
The woman in the black robe sneered, “Every layer of the array has a guardian. If you want to leave this place, eventually, you will meet the guardian of the first array.”
Fang Lin looked skeptically at the black-robed woman. Although she spoke as if she were telling the truth, Fang Lin still did not fully trust her.
The prettier the woman, the less trustworthy they are. However, in Fang Lin’s view, whether pretty or not, women can’t be trusted because you never know what they are truly thinking.
The woman in front of him did not look like a good person; naturally, Fang Lin would not trust her. Even now, he was on guard, worried that she might suddenly play dirty tricks on him.
“What else?” Fang Lin asked.
The woman in the black robe looked at Fang Lin, “What else do you want to know?”
Fang Lin smiled slightly, “Why did you become the guardian here? How long have you been here?”
The woman in the black robe said, “Why I became a guardian is not something I can tell you, even if you kill me. As for how long I’ve been here, I can’t even remember myself — perhaps a thousand years, maybe ten thousand.”
On hearing this, Fang Lin was immediately shocked. This woman had been here for thousands of years? That was astonishing–could it be that she was from ten thousand years ago?
“How about the strength of the other six guardians?” Fang Lin asked. He wanted to gather as much information about this place as possible; otherwise, he would be like a headless fly, crashing around randomly.
“Their strength is comparable to mine, but I’m only speaking of the level of Martial Arts Cultivation. As all guardians can utilize the power of each layer of the array, like how I can command all the Demon Beasts in this place to do my bidding. The other guardians have similar abilities, the difference lies in the array,” she stated.
Fang Lin nodded. Her ability to command Demon Beasts was indeed a formidable skill, but Fang Lin was less concerned since he had the Demon Beast-slaying golden puppy with him; the Demon Beasts around here weren’t a big deal.
Without her ability to command Demon Beasts, this woman’s own strength was just that of an ordinary Spirit Source expert, not very impressive.
According to what the woman in the black robe had said, the other six guardians also had about the level of Spirit Source, but each had unique abilities, just like how this woman could command all the Demon Beasts within this layer of the array.
Knowing this, Fang Lin felt somewhat reassured; if he encountered guardians in other arrays, he wouldn’t be completely unprepared.
“I’ve told you the information you wanted to know, can you let the Fire Spirit Silkworm go?” said the woman in the black robe. She revealed this information to Fang Lin in hopes that he would release the Fire Spirit Silkworm.
Fang Lin smiled faintly, “I can let it go, but what I want to know goes far beyond this.”
Upon hearing this, a trace of gloom passed through the woman’s eyes.
“Then what else do you want to know? I won’t reveal more about the guardians. That’s something we seven guardians must keep secret. If revealed, we would be killed immediately,” the woman in the black robe stated, her tone firm with a hint of fear.
Fang Lin frowned, “In that case, tell me, how was this place formed?”
The woman in the black robe scoffed, “I don’t know how this place was formed, and even if you knew, it would be useless. Anyone who enters here can’t leave; this place has changed from the past.”
“What’s different about it? In the past, it seems that others have entered this place and then left,” Fang Lin asked.
The woman in the black robe shook her head, “Those who left didn’t really enter the Seven-layer Array; they were just trapped in illusions on the outskirts. No one who enters these Seven-layer Arrays can leave alive.”
Hearing this, a shadow grew in Fang Lin’s heart. According to this woman, weren’t the Seven-layer Arrays essentially a death trap? Once you stepped in, you could never leave?
“Don’t even you know how to leave this place?” Fang Lin inquired further.
“If I knew, I would have left a long time ago,” the woman in the black robe mocked, though it was unclear whether she was mocking Fang Lin for asking such a foolish question, or mocking herself for being unable to leave The Forest of Mist, this prison.
Fang Lin pondered deeply, discerning quite a bit of useful information from the words of the woman in the black robe, yet it wasn’t comprehensive enough, and many things remained unclear.
“You said that we couldn’t obtain the Divine Weapon, then do you know where it is?” Fang Lin asked again.
The woman’s expression flickered slightly, “Indeed, there is a Divine Weapon here, but it belongs to none of you; none of you can obtain it.”
Fang Lin said, “Is it a bow?”
The woman in the black robe shook her head, “No.”
Upon hearing this, Fang Lin was somewhat surprised. Since he had entered this place, based on what he had heard from Gu Hanshan, from Wuyan, and from Zhou Meng, there was supposed to be a bow here, and they had all come looking for it.
But now, the woman in the black robe claimed that the Divine Weapon of this place was not a bow–then what was it? Why was it different from what Wuyan and Zhou Meng had said?
Logically, since Gu Hanshan and Wuyan had mentioned a bow, that should have been accurate, but this woman insisted it wasn’t a bow, which was indeed odd.
Fang Lin couldn’t help but suspect, could it be that this woman in the black robe had been deceiving him from beginning to end, with not a single truth in her words?
“You’re lying to me,” Fang Lin blurted out.
The woman in the black robe paused, then scoffed coldly, “If you don’t believe, I can’t help it.”
Fang Lin frowned and pondered, stroking his chin, while the woman in the black robe kept her eyes on him, unknowing of what he was thinking.
The Demon Puppet stood not far away, motionless like a wooden stake; the Fire Spirit Silkworm Demon King lay on the ground, its massive form completely suppressed by the Demon Puppet and dared not move.
“You said you’re the guardian of this place, so let me ask you, can you find the other people inside this Second Array?” Fang Lin asked.
